That 2nd half was terrible, I don't know what Roy said to them at half time, but it was like watching a completely different game.

Some of our players are just so frustrating to watch, and having to listen to Andy ****ing Townsend just compounds the issue.

Why do some people think that was a bad result for England tonight ?

Just seen the first 30 min of the German match - I know Kazakhstan aint much of an opponent but damn Germany have alot of creativity with Gotze, Reus and Ozil with no "strikers" today. Quite liked what I saw from Gundogan as well.

Why do some people think that was a bad result for England tonight ?

Because it should have been put to bed by half time? England had enough chances in the first 30 minutes to win the game by a considerable margin. Straight after half time Montenegro gave us 2 or 3 wake-up calls, and it seems both Woy and the lads ignored them, and kept playing lazy, sloppy, uninspiring football.

We are better than what we showed in the second half. What's slightly worrying however is that today's team was near enough full-strength, barring maybe Wilshere in for Cleverley and Walcott in for Milner. A defence with Lescott and Smalling simply isn't strong enough.

75% of England's players that played were from the Manchester teams. Just a shame those teams' best players aren't English...

Stuck £20 on an accumulator and a couple of late winners saw me walk away with £200. Not a bad day.

Good to see Gerrard saying it how it was - they stopped playing for most of the second half. At least they know and admit it.

Not a bad result for England, not the end of the world. Ireland and Wales will be gutted.

Hodgson pissed me off though, thr 10 minute period before the goal you could tell they were going to score... Any other manager would have made subs to change the game but Roy didn't ffs.

Would've bought on Lampard/Scotty for Cleverly to give Gerrard a free role and help deal with pressure. Welbeck looked tired and would have bought on Chamberlain/Young for him for the counter.

I keep on hearing bullshit excuses for roy that we havent got the players, but we are no longer struggling against the world's best, we struggling against 3rd and 4th seed teams. As soon as we scored that goal we instantly went deep and before half time despite not being much of a threat, you knew as soon as Montenegro sort out their final ball they will be a threat

As for Roy, most good international teams have a philosophy and players know how the team should play when they go we dont tbh and are getting outplayed by the like of Montenegro and Ukraine

That England team last night was poor, it isnt a top 10 side let alone top 5, we wont be seeing the business end of any tournaments for the next 10 years.

James Milner? Really?
Cleverly? lol..

That wasnt a full strength England side, imo when everyone is fit, this is the team:

---------------------- Hart
Walker -- Ferdinand -- Cahill -- Cole
----------- Wilshere -- Carrick
Lennon --------- Rooney ----- Walcott
------------------ Welbeck

Even so would anyone really expect that team to be doing the business against Spain, Germany, Argentina etc? As someone stated above it'll be a while before England are threatening to reach the business end of tournaments.

Gutted with the Wales result. We played really well and created chances but Croatia showed their class in the 2nd half.

Bale missed a one on one that you would normally expect him to put away and he tired tremendously towards the end (probably still suffering from the after effects of the virus). Hope he's OK for Sunday!

Has anyone with some Championship/Crystal Palace knowledge seen much of Jonathan Williams?
He came on for Bale against Scotland and was outstanding and yesterday he was MoM. Really good little footballer.

That team hasnt done the business against anyone except Andorra, San Marino and etc.
I prefer us to be knocked out and not make the WC and get a manager that will play attacking football building for Russia tbh

Ferdinand ?

you are having a giraffe, he hasn't played an international for 2 years and has a chronic back problem, don't listen to the media's biased view of him

personally I would have Dawson or Jagielka alongside Cahill, also team looks a bit imbalanced with both Lennon and Walcott, I would play Lennon as the out and out winger and Gerrard instead of Walcott

The problem is that I can't see who that manager would be. The whining about having a foreigner in charge has led to the FA being backed into a corner over having an Englishman and being stuck with a very small pool to choose from. Could we go for Harry? He WOULD play attractive attacking football but I think we'd come unstuck against top sides. Who else?

I agree to a certain extent but also agrees it seems to have to be English and I think Harry would be perfect for England atm, he has a better record with youth than Roy. Also people say this stuff about him not doing well against the big teams but I think they are basing that off performances at the end of our bad run last season. Look at us under him, we beat Arsenal at their ground for the first time in yonks, won at anfield for the first time in yonks and we were inches from beating City the year they won the title. In Europe we beat Inter when we had 11 men the year after they won the CL, We beat AC at the san siro with the likes of Crouch, Palacios, Sandro(just arrived as well), Pienaar and Corluka against arguably the best striker in the world at the time. We also qualified top of a group that our rivals didnt expect us to, that season was the best ride we had been for years.

We may not win a WC for 20 years but at least lets make performance that people can be proud of, we havent done that in a very long time, we are England, a really big footballing country that has a incredible pool of players yet one of our highlights in the last 12 years is drawing with Greece to make it to the world cup, which lets be honest is something that we would be taking the piss out of our smaller rivals for.

'Arry would pretty much be the only stand out English candidate. But after what happened last time would a) the FA go to him with their tails between their legs and b) 'Arry take the job after not being offered what seemed to everyone to be his job for the taking?

Otherwise there's Pardew (no fucking thanks), Fat Sam (hahahahaha). All the teams in the Premier League managed by Englishmen are in the bottom half of the table. The only ones who play any kind of attacking football are 'Arry, Pardew and Atkins. Actually if Atkins can do well with Reading, then maybe get himself a job at a top-half team and do well, he might not be a bad shout in future.

But basically the dearth of good English managers is even worse than the dearth of good English players.

There was an interesting piece in the Guardian yesterday which I think is spot on. No doubt in the summer we'll have the likes of Wenger insisting all their young English players are too tired and can't play in the u21 Euros.

I know what you mean mate, but take away Ferdinand and where is that team's leader?

I agree that i'd have Daws over him, but he wont come in and be captain, and i'd say him and Rio are on par with eachother this season
