Yeah agree. They won't have the squad to cope with European games, it will be too much for them. I hope they're in Europe next season as they struggle even more than us with it. Just won't have the depth.
It'll be interesting how seriously Martinez takes the competition too - pitting his wits against European opposition will appeal so I think he'll take the EL pretty seriously or certainly more than say Pardew did with Newcastle.

I don't think so.

Some people hope Spurs finish 4th? WE ALL DO. But some people are being realistic and then assessing the reality with a preferential option. You're a fucking liar if you're telling me you wouldn't find it funny to see Arsenal miss out after being 7 points clear, 40m spent and 'title challenging'. We can finish above both, is that likely though, no? Do I hope we finish above them, yes. Do I think we will, no. Thus would I prefer Everton to finish 4th over Arsenal WITH THE REALISTIC EQUATIONS TAKEN INTO ACCOUNT, YES

Neither are positive, but I'd much rather a club who we're better than (on paper at least) knick 4th, than have Arsenal (a team better than us), finish 4th and then continue to improve further. If Everton finish 4th, their squad won't change an awful lot, they're littered with loan players and don't have a lot of money anyways, even with a cash injection from the CL, they wouldn't be able to flash cash freely. They'd improve, but not to the same degree that Arsenal would have the potential to do so. Both are negative to us, but the more clubs fighting for 4th, the better. Throw a stronger Everton into the mix, a United with guidance and ourselves with stability and next season, the race for the top 4 will be tighter than ever, but with no standout favourite. If Arsenal finish 4th, they can invest heavily and pull away from us. I know which I'd rather happen.

Neither do I. But hope has fuck all to do with how our team performs. Doesn't change a thing. Everton haven't actually got to finish the season better than us to beat us either ftr, they can actually perform worse than us and still mathmatically finish ahead, so that theory doesn't add up.

Again, I've not seen one person say 'I'D RATHER EVERTON 4TH THAN US'. Nobody is saying that. At all.

Why should we only be concerned with ourselves? Again, that's narrow minded. I enjoy football, as much as I enjoy Tottenham Hotspur, so I'll make my own preferences, thank you very much. Most of the people in this country would prefer Everton to Arsenal in re: to the top 4 at this moment.

I'll spell it out for you. I hope Spurs finish 4th. An awful lot. HOWEVER, IN THE LIKELY SCENARIO THAT WE'LL FALL SHORT AND NO LONGER BE IN CONTENTION, call it my SECONDARY PREFERENCE, I'd rather Everton finished 4th, because I, A) like them as a club and B) it's always nice to see Arsenal trumped.

Now tell me that I struggle to understand the animosity and I'll tell you, that you struggle to understand other peoples opinions and realistic preferences.

Oh, and for everyone convinced Everton would hold some serious playing cards should they get 4th, they did, in 2005. People have forgotten that, though, I wonder why?

I agree with a lot of that. Don't think the people in here slating others understand what's being said. IF Spurs don't get 4th, would you rather Everton or Arsenal got it?

If we are getting 4th we must win 6 or 7 out of the last seven games. That will 99 times out of a hundred be enough to beat Everton. So it's not "not supporting our team", it's just the fact that we don't compete with them for 4th, we compete with Arsenal.

Now, IF, and most likely when, we lose out on fourth, would we then settle for 6th so that Everton may get 4th? In my mind yes. Without a doubt. I hear "no winning mentality" and "Everton will be more attraktive Than us" etc. I don't buy it. If anything it's several other positive factors Than just Arsenal being a laugh: if Everton can stay good, or Even get better, that might do us a favour, mening They Could take more points from our other rivals at the top. Everton barely have 11 players When removing the loans, and 20 million Champions league money won't Fix that. Arsenal with a tight budget the last 10 years, suddenly lose a lot of their income and maybe some players to!

And seriously, Even if Everton get 4th this year, would you considered them a bigger threat than Arsenal next year?

For us to get 5th or 6th doesn't matter. Both Europa league. I would be happy for us to fall to 8th just to give the youths a chance and practising a style of play and other parts of our games were we are struggling.

You may say losers mentality, but it's actually the opposite: I don't want "just" 5th or Even "just"4th, I want us to be as high on the table as possible, and preferably 1st... :)

So to summerise we want Everton to ovhaul Arsenal and go on winning until or unless we overhaul Arsenal at which time we want Everton to start losing.

Sounds like I've just proved you entirely wrong.

Have a seat.

You've proved that you're struggling to admit you've misunderstood a lot of the posts in this thread, including mine, and that you painted yourself into a corner with your misplaced arrogance. You might want to work on that.

I can't support anyone else for 4th who isn't us! Fucks sake!

This is one of the most depressing threads of all time (and that is saying something)

I'm still obviously supporting us for fourth for as long as we have the potential to attain it - meaning I want both Arsenal and Everton to drop as many points as possible

If however it came down to a two horse race between them and a straight choice between Everton and Arsenal for fourth - I'd prefer the Gooners to miss out on CL football *and Everton lose the CL play off again so as not to benefit from group stage money)

We could have (and seemingly have) done a lot worse than Martinez, done a cracking job this season and played fairly decent football in the process.

Have I? I believe it's you who can't grasp the simple concept of preferring one thing over another.

Ok so now that even those of us that are hopelessly deluded can't possible think we can still get fourth in any of the infinite parallel universes in the space-time continuum...can the context of the OP be appreciated?

Still a good chance that we will beat Everton to 5th. They have a tough run in and will definitely drop plenty of points.

Only question is whether our players can be bothered to play for the manager and beat the comparatively weak (if relegation threatened) teams that we have to face for the remainder of the season.
