Firstly, I'm not one for starting threads (outside of the ) so apologies if this is a terrible/pointless thing to start a thread about or has been said elsewhere but better!

One thing that riled me at the Lane yesterday was several fans I was chatting to saying how gutted they would be if we didn't finish second because we deserve to.
Do we? I know we have won the most points from losing positions (19) but we have also lost the most points from winning positions (20).
There were fans (and I use that term loosely) on Twitter yesterday going apoplectic (and I am not using that term loosely - they really were) about how we have a God-given right to finish second because of reasons (none forthcoming) and how dare Arsenal even think about overtaking us!

We will have played the same number of games as everybody else. We will have played the same teams as everybody else, both home and away.
At the end of the day, every team finishes where they deserve to after 38 matches.
Leicester are champions. They have won more matches than everybody else so of course they deserve to be champions.

We lost yesterday and we deserved to. Yes, Mason looked awful (to me in row 3 of the Shelf - I haven't watched it on TV yet, can't bring myself to so maybe he was better than I think?) but who else could we play? Alli was banned and deserved to be. Dembele was banned and deserved to be. It seemed odd that we kept chanting his name - it seemed a bit Liverpool/Suarez to me. I mean, he gouged somebody's eyes. Okay, granted, it was Costa. But he gouged somebody's eyes. In what way does that seem like a good idea? And he left us with a weakened midfield. Thanks, Dembele. Granted, there is some discrepancy in FA punishments, blah, blah but he definitely deserved to be banned for it.

The only thing that really bugs me about this season is the cups. We have folded in all three cups and having not capitulated to Palace and been in the FA Cup final would have made falling away from Leicester a touch more palatable.

Okay, that's not true. The other thing that bugs me is our home form. We are fifth in the league just looking at home form (still second for just away) and could end up sixth if Southampton win their last home game 5-0.That is bizarre as WHL used to be where we were strongest.

But the best thing about football is that we go again. In only three months with the Euros, the Olympics and the ITK forum to keep us occupied until then.
I can't wait to see how the new stadium is looking the first home game of next season. There might be more cranes. There might be some more concrete.

We have a young squad that will hopefully have some quality in depth and experience added to it in the summer and we will go again. Hopefully a little further. A decent cup run, hell, let's win a cup. Why can't we? Let's win the league.
Let's set our sights very high. So high in fact that even failure will have in it an echo of glory.
And the strange thing is, I feel like we deserve some glory.
I can't f'cking wait. COYS!

Welllllllllllll.....

Our Football has been some of the best in the league so I personally feel we deserve to finish second. I thought we deserved to win the league to be fair but nobody wanted to spoil Leicester party apparently.

The final table does not always give the full picture. In 1985 we were third behind Everton and Liverpool. However, Liverpool were never in the title hunt and we provided the only serious challenge to Everton. In the end Liverpool caught us due to us having a major injury crisis. We deserved second place that year.

That sense of entitlement makes us look like that mob down the road. As an example of what I mean, see that loathsome tosser, Mr Arsenal Incarnate, Piers Morgan (I'd still be insulting him if he followed Spurs, simply because he's a tosser). Do we really want to be like that arrogant, smug, humourless mob?

Agree with your post 100%, apart from the use of the word 'gouge' (Costa's eye wasn't gouged, but that's been done to death elsewhere).[/QUOTE]

I remember that lot down the road saying something similar...

All this 'table never lies' 'we will finish where we deserve' nonsense has to stop. The best team doesnt always finish first and the worst team doesnt always finish last, in this case this year Villa certainly do though...

So lets say hypothetically, Villa get smashed for the last 10 games of a season, shots hit the woodwork, they lose every stat on the field, have players continually being sent off and yet somehow they score a goal in each of these games by an own goal and dont get relegated. It would be comical to say they deserve to stay up. This is an extreme example, but fuck me some of you need it extreme to understand basics.

So would Villa have deserved to finish exactly where they deserved to ? no.

We deserve better. The petulance of two of our better players has cost us massively. Alli and Dembele have escaped criticism from the fans but their behaviour has cost us.

I don't think they have escaped criticism. Alli has had a ban coming for some stupid, petulant things and should learn a lesson. In Dembele's case it was an isolated incident and totally out of character so a bit of leeway there, but not much.

Nice sentiment, and it should be thus, but if there is one thing that life has taught me so far is that it is not fair. Not on any terms.

Easy to say one gets what one deserves (be that an individual or an entity such as a football team) but it is simply not the case in my experience.

lets not forget this has been an unpredictable season, media speak for the teams we want to see challenging have been shite this season.

for me we have over performed. i expected sixth maybe fifth this season but we have improved and i would guess are at least one season maybe two ahead of schedule.

next season will be the real test as we all know, because the media keep telling us, that liverpool chelsea and man city will be real forces next season

leicester 40 - 1 to win league we are 20 - 1 i believe man city favs but may now to be in europa league

we do need a leader on the pitch and most importantly players that can come of the bench to change things. i honestly think we have been found out with not having a back up striker. even austin at 4 million would have been something

still an enjoyable season and i hope the champions league does not become to much of a distraction and we focus on the league.

I completely get where you're coming from but for me, deserved positions are based on results which, at the end of the day, is how the league table is derived. Yes you can get some luck but you're not going to get for 38 games.

The best team doesn't have to finish first - but they stand a good chance of it. Are Leicester the best team? They haven't played the best football but they have the best results. Would I sacrifice our football for the title... I'm not sure...

My heart says finish second because the football we've (often) played deserves it.
My brain (which does maths and data for a living) says the table doesn't lie...

although we all play exactly the same teams, in some ways we don't.

the goons didn't play the same West Brom we played 4 days later (who then lost 0-3 at home to West Ham 5 days after that).

If there was still something to play for, does anyone think Leicester would be playing the same Chelsea we played a week ago?

Swansea laid down and died for Leicester, but somehow managed smash West Ham this weekend

But we needed to cope with that and we didn't - drawing too many games where we were in front and in control. Other than that, Fergie used to say often that teams try harder against them.....he was right, and now we know how it feels.

No point moaning about it now. If Poch is the manager we all think he is, he will ensure the squad learn from this and come back stronger and with a little more street smarts next year.

Because we have played as well as we have I'm disappointed that we have fallen away a little and may end up third behind L'Arsenal but when we started the season with the small squad we had then I wasn't expecting top 4.
Brilliant season and we do end up where we deserve.
Our finishing has let us down on a few occasions meaning we have dropped points from winning positions but we still have our highest ever goals for in the PL season. Sometimes we had battled back to win from losing positions as well so it evens itself out.
Really looking forward to next season and hope Poch can invest in some new players during the summer.

I agree. I think as a protest you should remove him from your profile pic for 14 days.

We can play all the pretty, possession based football we like ( i think yesterday we had 70% of possession) but the game is all about scoring goals, and yet again we couldn't.

Plain and simple fact that we need far too many opportunities to score a single goal, and single goals rarely (unlike Leicester this season) win Spurs a game.

Youth, exuberance, learning curve, call it what you want but for a side second in the PL when a two goal lead isn't enough to win a game it should tell the coach and that the team is inefficient in one area. I am looking for Poch to find a remedy between now and August, because if he doesn't then we should dread CL football where teams far better than Saints, WBA, Newcastle and the like will be waiting for us.

Great season as it may be, there are more questions to be answered now than that of last season i think.

You need to show why you deserve something, you cant just get played off the park, have the opposition score an own goal for you and then turn round and say you deserved to win. Deserved positions are 100% not based on results.
