Can someone just reassure me please...the goons can't actually win the league can they?

Sorry but ofcourse they can. Open league and they look strong.

I don't really care if they do as long as we achieve our goals.

I think we all know the goons will win the league and Spurs will finish 5th on alphabetical order.

At the start of the season my wife said "not trying to wind you up but I think it may be their (scum's) season".
I pray she's wrong. I REALLY don't need her saying "I told you so" about them being champions! :sour:

Only it very much does, because we lost from our squad the quality of players worth that amount of money. I genuinely can't comprehend how you can classify selling Gareth Bale, the very player you say he relied upon, as something that 'doesn't matter'.
Then you can't read. I said that recouping the money doesn't matter not that losing bale didn't matter. It's been said on several occasions when we've been accused of spending a lot of money that we haven't because our net spend is low. It's a dumb argument wheeled out to defend AVB.

Besides, nobody, or at least very few, on here believed Bale was worth the money.

You also miss the point that AVB has done little to alter the style of the team despite missing bale and that last year he relied on him to an unhelpful degree.

[qAdaptingjambreck, post: 3704181, member: 25506"]Speaking of Harry...........given the debate raging in Spurs Chat about Spurs' current failure to perform well in attack, it's interesting to note that even though QPR are flying high in theChampionship, they aren't firing properly in attack either. Only 18 goals scored in 16 games.

QPR's success thus far is very much based on their stingy defence. Only the 8 goals conceded.

Adapting his tactics to suit the players at his disposal perhaps?[/quote]

Sshhh, never suggest Redknapp has any tactical ability on here, you'll be hunted down and have " fucking run around a bit " shouted at you till your ears bleed.

I tend to agree with the bolded bit, obviously not the accusation that I missed the point though.

I don't agree that your first paragraph statement that it is 'a dumb argument' to use net spend instead of gross; I think it is obvious that if you receive 86m for a single player, you are likely to spend more money than a team who receives no income from sales.

Well of course you'll spend more money but that doesn't mean that you shouldn't expect the team to improve as a result.

If you spend about 56m on two individual players then you would expect to see improvements. It makes no difference that we got 86m back, that doesn't mean those two players should be expected to perform less well because they didn't "cost" us anything.

The fact the Soldado looks a bit like a 26m error and Lamela has barely featured as of yet has nothing to do with Bale being sold or with us not making much of a net spend.

For me there's 3 possible reasons ( general reasons ) for us being so lacklustre.

1: The players we bought weren't worth the money
2: We bought the wrong kind of players
3: AVB isn't doing a very good job

It's probably a combination of all three, Paulinho, Chiriches have looked good and done pretty much what you'd expect of them. Soldado looks like he's playing in the wrong team, Chadli looks like a decent enough squad player. Eriksen and Lamela look like kids with potential.

So, Paulinho, Chiriches good buys that seems to fit in with AVB's approach and can probably be justified financially.

Soldado, probably the wrong kind of player unless AVB changes and consequently not looking good financially.

Eriksen, Lamela may turn out to be excellent but currently they don't appear to either fit with AVBs approach, be worth the money or be at a level where 30m is justified on a 21yr old.

Chadli, decent enough I guess but somewhat inexplicable as a buy.

Last season you could argue it was fair enough to just set the team up to get it to Bale and wait for him to score. This season though there's been no change in approach it's just we don't have anyone to give it to to get us out of a hole. Buying 7 new players for over 100m should be something that AVB did in order to have us playing a different way and yet we don't.

Out of all of them I'd say Paulinho's been the worst signing. He doesn't function as a goalscoring midfielder because he rarely gets into goalscoring positions, or even the box most of the time. He can't unlock defences because he doesn't have the guile. He can't be a box to box player as he doesn't look like he has the energy, most of the time he looks lethargic and too casual. He can't tackle and his passing is average at best.

At least with Soldado you can say give him a chance because he hasn't had any kind of decent service, Chadli and Capoue have both been injured, Eriksen and Lamela are both only 21 and haven't been given a consistent run in the team. Chiriches has actually looked good when he's played, bar a few mistakes in his early games.

I'd much rather play Dembele alongside Sandro, as whilst Dembele doesn't have an awful lot of end product he at least can drive the team forward by beating a man and is strong defensively. Paulinho does neither.

I didn't see the game but have just read that rooney should have been sent off for a stamp. Did anyone see this, is a ban likely??

Had a kick out in about the 8th minute, should have got a red, but only received a yellow.

The rules changed this season so that retrospective action can still be taken if a yellow card was given, but I very much doubt anything will be done. Another case of the FA bottling it against a high profile player/club.

It won't be, because it's Rooney.
