The likes of Parret, Campbell, Gio and Bostock did superbly last night!

The focus from last night is very much on the defeat and Gomes but we should ignore the positives.

Parret played it simple and while wasn't spectacular did a brilliant job. He looked more assured than Jenas did! He worked hard and did what we needed him to do.

Campbell worked his socks off and ran his guts out! A lot of people (including those C5 idiots) questioned why he started but he proved why. Bent did little when he came on and looked his usualy sulky self. Campbell worked the defenders and if only (if only) he'd got the chances that fell to JJ and Bent things might have been different.

Gio had a half decent game and with Chimbonda behind him I thought he played well, considering you never really know what Pascal is going to do next! He had a better game than Bentley anyway!

I thought Bostock lookd assured when he came on, even though we saw little of him.

So well done boys and I hope this is the start of something good for us!

Too right, I'm not going to venture into any of the plethora of threads dedicated to "Harry is Clueless", "Gomes should be hung", "We should have played 1st teamers", "I hate Spurs". I for one was very happy with the team Harry put out for us.

Reality check people, we are in a relegation battle in the league, and we are in the final of a cup. We cannot risk injuries to key personnell in the last 32 of the Uefa cup, on a horrible pitch, away from home in temperatures of -7 degrees.

To be honest with you, I doubt very much that even a first choice side would have fared much different last night. We were comfortable at 0-0, and in my opinion the first goal conceded had nothing to do with who was on the pitch. It was typical of our season so far. A needless free kick given away 25 yards from goal. Poor marking, and an over zealous keeper are areas we have fallen foul time and time again this season. In fact, i would go as far as saying, if we had halved the goals conceded from "unforced errors" this season, we would probably be in the top half of the table.

I am going to the game next Thursday, and I for one am drooling over the prospect of seeing some of our young hungry youth players get a chance on a big stage. I also think that it is games like this that can give players like Gio, taarabt, Huddlestone etc get a cahnce to show what they can do.

I swear, there is no pleasing Spurs fans, we are, on the whole a very fickle bunch of people. I mean, one week, people are calling for the likes of Gio, Campbell and some of the youngsters be given a chance to show what they can do, then, the next week, when this has become reality, these same people are lambasting Redknapp for not treating a competition with the respect it deserves.

Bring on the youngsters (and trumpets) I say!!

I thought Parrett was very very impressive. You are always looking to see what young players are about - he seems to have a very good engine, works very hard, looks like he puts his foot in and was pretty decent on the ball. I would give him the same rating as Jenas, which is a bit worrying when one was making his debut and the other was captain and the msot experienced player on our team.

I hope Gio gets more game time, I like seeing him on the left and I think with a more attacking and organised lineup he could do a job there.

Next thursday should be interesting. I hope these youngsters can make the step up from youth player to fringe squad player, I would rather have some hungry youngsters than some content/lethargic established pros

Positivity? On this forum? After a defeat?

On a serious note, good thread. If we aint gonna do what Woolwich do in the CC with their youngsters then why not in a competition that is the last of our priorities. If Woody played last night for instance and got seriously injured and was out for the run in then everyone would have been even more outraged. I agree to an extent with what 'Arry did as it was great to see Gio actually start a game a Parrett looks like he can eventually make the step up, some lovely bits of play from him in the first half

In my opinion the youngsters all did great. Especially impressive were Parrett, Gio and Gunter...

I think the main problem is that Harry needs to do one or the other. Play youngsters or not... Look at the scum, when they play youngsters they go for it and have 2 or 3 senior players in there... Our problem is that we still had a lot of senior players and expected to walk it. Why not play Tarrabt, Bostock and obika from the start.. We couldnt have done any worse... He could have kept the defence the same but given those midfielders who dont normally get a chance a full 90 minutes...

Team could have been like this:

Gomes
Gunter Dawson Chimbonda Bale
Tarabbt Parrett Bostock Gio
Fraiser Obika

Zokora doesnt deserve to play in midfield. Bentley shouldnt have played. There was no need to take Gio off for Bent when he could have taken zokora off for tarabbt or Bostock and given us a bit more of a push forward...

It was simply poor management and I dont think we should blame the players as much as the manager who picked them..

Parrett impressed me so much last night, not just with all his play, but his attitude, he didn't feel the need to try anything silly to try and catch the eye, he seems like a good footballer who makes good decisions, which is a rarity at his age, never looked like losing the ball, and would cover if Jenas/Zokora were out of position.

Also, he doesn't shy away, when Gomes sliced a clearance up into the air he threw his arms up in disgust, which showed some balls on his debut.

This impressed me too. It was a tricky place to make your debut and he did very well. Wasnt the best pitch, and he wasnt coming into a setteled team either. Let alone the fact it was away in Ukraine in -10 conditions, the boy did fantastic.

After the keeper made that save when the ball broke through did you see Parret sprinting to get back into position and work for the team. Jenas didn't do the same with his miss, either did Bent - that's the time of player we need at the moment.

Completely agree with Whitestripe....saved me a whole lot of typing!

We hear all the good stuff about our youth team players and how Harry doesn't give youth a chance and yet when he does he gets vilified. Talk about damend if you do damned if you don't!

Personally i thought we did ok in difficult conditions and Parratt accounted for himself very nicely. I actaully hope that Redknapp does give a few kids a go in the 2nd leg next Thursday. But if we manage to overhaul the deficit and win then we'll see the normal fickle spurs fans come out of the woodwork praising Harry etc .

Anyway here's to 3-0 with goals from Bostock, Parratt and Mason or Obika!

well as someone who has been advocating playing the young ones much earlier this season - glad to see so much agreement

didn't seem to be so much when i was advocating it v wigan and spartak for example in the cups

I think HR is right and we should play quite a few young ones next Thurs

a particular cause of mine ATM is that I'd like to see jansson given a chance - (assuming he feels he's ready) as I'd rather (ATM) see him on the bench at Wembley than alnwick

I'm all for playing the kids more.

Our first team this season have frankly shown very little in the way of fight, determination or ability. How could it get worse?

Fraizer Campbell was shocking, how can he be praised for his performance? Did literally nothing in an attacking sense and has consistently shown no discernable eye for goal, attacking movement, shooting ability (short or long range), hold up play, touch, dribbling. He has some pace and runs around AFTER the ball a lot, how did he get signed up by United?

Lucky 22, Campbell was a fucking big joke, who spends all his time on his arse. The guy is so piss poor, I can't remember anything positive he did.

Running around like a 6 year old does not constitute having a good game.
