The warm up's barely over at Wembley and the pitch is cutting up already.

What sort of mess will it be in by the time we get there for tomorrow's game?

Yeah, I thought that we would suffer tomorrow with a game played today. We need a nice smooth surface for our slick passing. Hope they work hard on it after the match today.

not good for either team with them having players back from injury's

Has it been raining down there, or have they just over watered it?

 My old man's part of the matchday groundstaff and I can confirm he will be working on the pitch until 2/3 in the morning tomorrow  He's gotta be there tomorrow before the game before he takes his seat in with the Spurs fans! I even got some work with him at the Playoffs last year and for the Wembley Cup.

It's a fairly new pitch that was laid not long back, because they play concerts there and stuff they continually rip it up and lay a new pitch which makes it impossible for it to establish itself as a good pitch by knitting together properly. .With the monumentally high stands there it doesn't get enough natural sunlight either with isn't good for a good pitch

Here's a crazy idea. How about between the end of this season and the Euro qualifier in September, that no one does anything at Wembley. No concerts. No football.

Nah, thats too crazy. I just hope the pitch is ok for next years Champions League final when the Spurs become Champions of Europe.

On early impressions I certainly would not play any of the injured players who are a doubt for tomorrows game. Players slipping all over the place. Both semi finals should not be played at wembley! Ours should have been at villa park or some were like that. Hope the fa are seeing the empty seats at today's game in both villa end & the chavs end and realise it's not worth holding the semi finals at wembley!

Players are slipping all over the place at the moment.

Commentator said it was brand new pitch, laid after the CC final. Andy Townsend says he thought the pitch was perfect. Then said it would take the players a while to find their footing.

As i'm typing this, yet another bad slip from Ashley Young.

I can't fathom why we have so many problems with the pitch when really this should be the pest football pitch in England?

Unfortunately it will never be the best pitch in England until they stop ripping it up every few months to accomodate Take fucking That and the like, a good pitch needs time to settle, to knit together and bed down and establish itself. Added to that the lack of sunlight it receives due to the high stands it's made even more difficult to make and maintain a good pitch.

This pitch will probably be used for the Final, and will play better than today/tomorrow because it has been down longer.

Yeah i've heard those things before but don't why the designers didn't factor those points in? or develop some work arounds, like closing the roof at night and putting UV and high intensity lights in the ceiling to simulate sunlight?

You mean these bad boys?!

They're actually a quite poor substitute for natural sunlight, unfortunately it's just circumstances beyond the ground staffs control for why the pitch isn't up to standard.

Ah good. Thanks SS18, and SS18's Dad. :)
Maybe tell them not to water it quite so much tomorrow? Hopefully our players will pick up some tips though, such as the cutback Gareth Southgate mentioned, with the Chelsea defenders all slipping over.

Ray Wilkins said the pitch was great, and that its just the top layer that 'greasy' but under that its firm.

Hope he is right, take some water out over night and it could still be a good pitch

Unfortunately he doesn't call any shots, he's just part of the matchday team, being a groundsman himself he gets asked to provide support for the full time ground staff.

As for the watering, they are operated by pop up sprinklers, and they decided to water the pitch at the Playoff final last year when I was working and muggins here was divoting next to one of them - soaked in seconds!
