They had more of the ball because they kept having to kick off so often and from picking the ball out of the net!!

If there was ever an example that stats don't get close to telling the whole story, sometimes, it was last night.

Arsenal had 57% possession and Wenger rightly described it as their worst night in Europe by a distance, that stat for an away team is impressive on its own - particularly when you consider the venue and the opponent.

Obviously possession is a key stat when analysing a game but what you do with the actual ball is equally critical...and likewise off it.

Arsenal have relied on the brillant RVP over and over again this season and if he had suffered his normal rate of injuries this season I don't even think they would be in the top 10.

Their defending was the poorest I've seen in a long time last night. If you think about it, 57% away from home in a place like Milan is fantastic from the point of view of keeping an experienced home side like Milan a good bit off the ball. They say keeping the ball is the best form of defence but holly shit Milan ripped them apart with less ball and made them look like novices. That 57% on its own should of been enough to prevent Milan from truly dominating the game, easily, but that's exactly what they did.

Wenger's philosophy for this current squad just doesn't bring the right balance to yield success, its beginning to get brutally exposed as well now.

Fuck, I've been so stupid. I've been wanting us to sign that 20 goals a season striker for so long. I was blinded by my own desires, I lost track of the truth and what is right. Thanks for the heads up, sloth.

And thank you Arsene, or as you shall now be known in my household - Jesus Redux.

It's true.
I eagerly watched the in play possession stats last night, finding actually watching the football to be a superfluous activity. The stats were showing, minute-by-minute, that the Goons were clearly dominating the game.
Imagine my surprise, dear readers, when I looked up from the stat box at the end of the game and noticed that Milan had somehow scored 4 goals, with no reply Eek I didn't have the sound on, you see

As for possession I have to admit that Arsenal DID have more kick-offs than Milan.
.
4 more to be exact.

Well Arsenal can afford to take it easy for the second leg and play a reserve side for all the difference it makes to concentrate on the League.
I've got a feeling they'll have one of those magical months where they are eliminated from all competitions.

I wonder if Modric and co. will see Wengers comments as a challenge to teach them about possession football.

I'm thoroughly enjoying the Gooners (or Goners as I prefer to call them) farewell tour of Europe.

It is, quite simply, a team in the process or reverting to type. Their fixation on us is due to the fact that our 'historical' way of playing Football is what they have tried to emulate. For a period they were relatively successful but they were always looking over their shoulder, waiting for us to get it back together and show them how it really should be done.

They have been dreading this for years and, now that we have reverted to type, they are regressing zto their dire Football of yesteryear for fear of ridicule when the inevitable comparisons are made. Far better to be compared favourably to, say, Stoke than us Wot?

They were more successful at it than we have ever been.
