I agree woth this analysis
Ah several overreactions to a draw. Never change some of you. Never change.

If you cannot see the difference from last season under Conte and this season under Ange I don't think football is your sport. Under Conte we relinquished possession more and sat back trying to counter. Under Ange, although our best chances come from the counter, we also control the ball trying to find the right pass at the end. My only gripe with this is nobody is willing to just shoot. Although a couple did and they were blocked by defenders. Bottom line is even in defeats or frustrating draws I can see the plan and how we want to play. That's what was important more than anything this season.

We had the possession last night, played some very good stuff until the final third and then it fell flat because either the ball was poor or the players weren't making the runs (Werner in particular).

We conceded a sloppy goal from a corner, something which we were pretty decent at defending in the first half of the season. I'm sure there was a stat where we hadn't conceded from one in a while. Then Everton stuck men on Vicario and it changed. That needs working on.

Antonio had that chance which he really should have buried after Maddison was blatantly fouled. Aside from that and maybe Bowen very early in the game, I can't see we were in trouble or worried really. This was their "cup final" and I expected better from them. It was a missed opportunity to win, but after our last away game at Fulham that was much improved.

Johnson getting another goal involvement. Not bad for a young player that.
I agree with this analysis on the whole. We have improved from the Conte era there is no doubt about that.

It's frustrating that we've conceded sloppy goals from corners where teams have worked out a simple route to putting a man on Vic and that's worked a couple of times since that Man City goal in the cup, we need to come up with a better plan to repel that.

A draw at their place isn't a bad result in the scheme of things I was just a little frustrated that for all the possession they allowed us we were far too one dimensional and predictable after the goal and didn't try much different other than trying to thread an eye of the needle pass in congested areas via slow build up play. We should have shown more invention than that.

The criticism in here last night was well over the top. I feel we played a lot better in defence and midfield than we did against Luton, it was our attack-minded players who really let us down, particularly Werner, Son, Maddison and Deki when he came on.

Both Bentancur and Bissouma were solid, which considering it was always going to be a tough game really bodes well for the rest of the season. They've been woefully out of form so it was nice to see glimpses of what we know they can bring now the business end of the season is upon us.

Our defence was OK apart from looking vulnerable from set-pieces. Unfortunately Moyes' teams have always been set up to be dominant aerially, so there are no surprises that they caused us problems from their corners and free-kicks.

Bottom line for me is our attackers desperately need to find some sort of rhythm. Both Luton and West Ham could, and probably should have been hit for 4 or 5 with the amount of possession we've had in attacking areas in the last 2 games. This needs to be addressed, and fast.

Have to say I'm amazed at some of the reactions I've seen on social media.

Can't believe the negativity on there around our performance.

West Ham came to play rugby and defend with 5,436 players. I thought we moved the ball really well for large parts of the game, looked like a classy team and just lacked that little bit of cutting edge and movement in the final third.

They only threatened us when we gave it away cheaply or they had a set piece.

We also put the ball across the face of goal around 5 times and no one gambled. These openings won't go down as chances but they were huge moments and had Werner and others gambled we'd have scored 2/3 goals and won the game.

Benny and Bissouma looked really good, VdV his usual class self and Johnson was absolutely brilliant.

I think there are loads of positives to take from the performance, as part of our development.

I forgot to say Bentancur looked good last night alongside Bissouma. They were both moving it around nicely and keeping us playing high.

I was surprised how well we shut out Paqueta and Kudus. They have been brilliant the last couple of months. They have some really good attacking players but Moyes as manager will never make the most of them. Paqueta will be away sooner or later ,far too good for them.

West Ham have one of the best set piece takers in the Premier League JWP.
Also have probably one of the biggest teams in the league.
I thought we defended well against a team that are good at what they do.

A sit on the fence answer as I expected. We scraped past Luton (at home) and drew today. Both games we should be winning comfortably. I expect better given what we're chasing and the quality of our squad which by the way is better than West Ham and Luton. it's really down to what level you think we're at I suppose.
Luton-desperate for points to stay up.
Spam-two places behind us, at home and desperate to be considered a football club.
Level we’re at-almost a Champions League team.
My point-we need to keep improving our squad season after season

Mate, complaining that Kulu only got 15 mins is a strange hill to die on, he was absolutely awful and it was a clear mistake to bring him on at 10 when he is out of form. The error was not bringing on Gio
I think you missed my point? More ppl criticised kulu in the match thread for wha seemed like an assessment of our overall performance. Madders has had games of sub par performances since his return from injury but is somehow exempt & won't even lose his place to GLC. The same GLC who keeps getting slated for playing for his country but being injured & not available for spurs. I'm not dying on any hill - Kulu was terrible for 15 mins, but madders hid in our half for 75 mins, same with Biss who was happy to play safe passes between himself & Porro and our defence closer to our 18 yard box than the oppositions.

btw - Ange would not have even brought GLC on if it wasn't for Brennan getting injured. You can see he turns to bench and motions to GLC to get ready to go on immediately. Anyways, I'm still behind Ange & this team - just wishing we can out our best foot forward in every game - especially those games against our very noisy neighbors!

I said the odd 1 nil, don't make it sound like I'm saying it needs to be a habit. How often do they concede the soft goals we do? Too often we have these games where the opposition haven't created much yet score.
Yeah but we’re fifth in best league in the world and competing for fourth.

One thing i forgot to add is we need to add different ways of scoring goals as when people play in a low block the coming in from the wing, low cross is not always going to work. We do seem to have forgotten that shooting from outside the box is a thing.

Most weeks you are going to be up against a team with something to play for, unless it's Fulham in which case should be an easy 3 points!

Just hoping it’s different ones.

People thinking this is just like under Conte are insane.

Agreed. I was chatting with my brother last night and I said I totally get the frustration of not getting 3 pts, but we looked more like a frustrating Manchester City side than last season's Conte-ball side! The only thing we were guilty of was getting into decent positions and trying for an extra pass, trying to pass it into the goal, and overplaying IMO. Sometimes we have to shoot just for the sake of causing a bit of chaos and hoping for a deflection or rebound.

70 percent possession isn't boring, having 11 players camped in the final third then trying to counter attack is boring IMO. I'd be far more frustrated as a WH supporter than us currently. They have a little bit of quality in their side yet are happy with 20 something percent possession? I get it works for them against some of the bigger sides, but it's a horrible watch/experience. Conte did that with us to an extent and a new manager has come in with a few signings and now we're third this season in terms of possession.

My overriding thoughts on this match were that West Ham were forced to play for a draw at home and that we need to think about buying Pacqueta, Bowen and Kudus off of them.

It is frustrating, but I suspect it's because of how packed the box was with West Ham players - they had pretty much all 11 in there.

I still think it's worth a go at times as it can create a bit of chaos with potential handball, rebounds etc but it is pretty low chance stuff.

Absolutely spot on.

It was the attacking play, bar the brillant Johnson, which let us down.

We dominated the midfield and moved the ball round in a classy fashion.

It was just that lack of connection in and around their box

And yes had Werner not been on his heels, he'd of scored at least one if not two.

If tnere's any analysing to be done post match, I hope Ange and his coaching staff are going through those with Werner.

He found space for Johnson's pass against Palace, albeit that was more obvious.

I like him, but he needs polishing.

We haven't beaten West Ham in their ground since 2019 - in what world should we be winning comfortably? Reality check needed.

I loved those first few games, but it’s clear they broke the minds of some people on here. I think they made some people’s expectations unreasonable. Before the season started we just wanted to be not shit. Ten games in that was largely forgotten - by opposing teams too.

“We should be beating West Ham if we have any aspirations of being a Champions League side”. Aston Villa shouldn’t be losing 4-0 at home to us if they have any aspirations of being a Champions League side. Newsflash - there’s a pretty strong chance we both will be. It’s a strong league, and we’re set up as the perfect counter to Villa just like West Ham are set up as the perfect counter to us.

We’re rebuilding. That hasn’t changed. If we get into the CL this year then great, that should (in theory) accelerate the process. I’m just not going to get too carried away by either the Villa game or the Fulham game - or drawing 1-1 at West Ham. I think Ange is still learning, and quite obviously the team are too…and to be in 5th at this point is really, really impressive. Come back to me if we’re still making the same mistakes this time next year.

It does make it clear that we need a couple of seriously talented players in this Summer and a somewhat ruthless approach to trimming the squad. I’m pretty confident that’s what we’ll do. Happy to have Werner in but we need someone better too. Happy to lose, say, Emerson Royal or Skipp but we need someone better. Just…it’s legit a long-term project that has quickly become a medium-term project.

Moyes has been there for over four years now. Four years and a ton of money, and he’s still doing low-block, counter and set-pieces. And if the teams below them win their game or two in hand they go 10th. I’m still patient enough to not throw my toys out the pram if we fail to beat them away in Ange’s first season.
