Here’s one for the record books, I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the ref last night. There I said it phew!

Anyone else impressed with him? I thought he was pretty well excellent last night, he made a few errors but nothing important and he let the game flow as much as possible allowing more physicality than I’ve seen for a long time only blowing up when it was nasty or actually a foul and in the end nobody got hurt.
Also from what I saw he never fell for any con’s just ignoring players and leaving them all on their own looking stupid which meant that they eventually gave up trying.

I realise now that I have become so accustomed to crappy referees making stupid mistakes and pulling up the play all the time.
He was French too which surprised me but full marks to him.
Anyone else think the same?

Yea, shouldn't we have had a peno late on- foul on Campbell.

I was delighted to see a ref give a foul, and not hand out a booking automatically!

I didn't notice the referee at all last night, which was a good sign, I guess.

I think it would have been 100% if Campbell stayed down. I'm not saying being honest is a bad thing, but when you're travelling away from goal and you get fouled, you have to take what you can get.

Certainly one of the best we've had in Europe over the last 2 and a bit seasons...

Did pretty well but surely he should have booked 1 or 2

Same game in the Prem would have resulted in 5-6 yellow cards. You need some consistancy.

The players wont know whats going on, prefer the European directives to ours though

It often seems that foreign refs are 'better' than ours. Why should that be so though? Maybe it's just because they have to be the top refs to referee a game in Europe that they seem superior to our everyday refs?

I dunno, we've had some pretty shocking refs in Europe, in particular the two we had against Sevilla...

I guess the best rated refs get all the CL games, and the second tier of refs get the UEFA games...

During the game, my companion and I agreed he was a bit of a 'homer'. A lot of the iffy decisions seemed to go our way. Not complaining, but that is presumably why he is receiving praise.
