What do we do for a left back against Fulham?

Whatever we do, we cant play bale at left back. It nullifies our best attacking threat.

I reckon Redknapp will make the huge mistake of going three at the back with bale and walker as wing backs.
Really? I've not been overly impressed with him at all recently. If anything it might make him stay on the left hand side.

Exactly this. I think it will be an utter blessing in disguise anyway, he'll have to think a bit more about defending, he'll hold his position more and can run from deep.

Plus we'll see better decision making in the final third with Modric.

At home in the majority of games this season BAE has effectively been playing as a left winger given the amount of ball and territory we have. I think Bale will be fine at 'leftback' as he will be high up the pitch anyway and potentially have a bit more space to work with.

Definitely Bale at LB with Modric at LW with Sandro and Parker in midfield.

In attack, Bale would push up with Modric coming inside. Sandro would take up a more box-to-box role and Parker would act as sweeper across the remaining back 3. Either Walker stays back all game or alternates with Bale.

In defence we'll basically have the back four plus two DMs covering.

But who knows? I thought we gave up such wacky formation and line up would come next when Ramos left.

It has to be Bale really, as they will be up against Damian Duff, and he could really cause problems if we try and cover it with a CB out there.

Needs to be someone mobile.

my only worry with bale on leftback is modric on the wing... he usually tends to be useless there...

Didn't Walker play left-back for Sheffield? Therefore leaving Bale on the wing, and smith at right-back!

Isn't it a but big of a game to try and start shoe-horning Adam Smith in? A won is absolutely crucial here.

I'm guessing it's been suggested already, but if Brum lose the play off tomorrow we could draft in Townsend. He did play LB in the Europa afterall.

Smith is a much more experienced fullback than Townsend,
he's a 21 year old (not a kid anymore) England youth international with close to 100 games out on loan

you mean rose, don't you?
i'd also prefer him to rose. he's done pretty well everywhere he was on loan and he's a natural fullback.
sure, there couldn't be a worse time to do experiments, but for some reason i believe he would do well...

i have no problem with bale on leftback, at least he stays on the left... well hopefully.

i just don't like wasting modric on the touchline... sure, he can cut-in, but still this apparently doesn't work, whenever he was playing in this role, he was struggling. his form hasn't been the best this season for whatever reasons, but playing him out of his best position doesn't help certainly.

Both to be honest, Townsend is mentioned above

frankly... 2 solutions....
Play bale at LB, and have Dos Santos play left mid... or field Gallas on the left and have Kaboul and Nelsenat center backs...

but what i expect harry to do...
is to field bale at LB, shift lennon to LM, and field VdV at RM. and either have 3 more midfielders in modric, sandro and parker in the middle or go 4-4-2 and put defoe upfront with Adebayor.
