Argentina's 2-0 victory against Venezuela in the Copa America quarter-finals on Friday night had plenty of implications back at Tottenham Hotspur.

The main one was the performance of Juan Foyth. The 21-year-old Spurs defender drew widespread praise for his display at right-back as Lionel Messi and co advanced to the semi-finals.

Aurier tore a hamstring in ACN, so Foyth is likely to be our RB next season if Tripp's is going.

Has a lot to learn about being RB. Showed good signs as a CB but in the few games he played RB last year he had no idea when to go and when to stay back, when to track a runner or when to open up space.

It’s not a simple case of just playing the same role, the demands are completely different.

I didn't see this game, but Foyth has been effective at RB when he has not been required to attack. He stays back and defends very well, as you would expect a young CB to do, with a bit less pressure than usual.

In a typical match, we need our fullbacks to run the length of the pitch relentlessly. In the absence of Trippier and Aurier, that would be Walker-Peters before it would be Foyth.

Agreed.

I think we lost a lot of our gameplan when Walker left and Rose got his bad/lengthy injuries. With them playing as ersatz wingers and pushing the opposition back, we were more effective imo and better defensively.

I know KWP is young and learning but he has the mobility and stamina to play like that. Foyth would probably be like Davies; a solid full back who doesn't add much offensively.

Trippier has his strengths but I don't think he suits our style of play, which works best with rampaging full backs.

Apparently Foyth was quality at RB in their last match, heard so many glowing reports, can anyone confirm?

Based on their Copa Americas I'd have him as the €60mil prospect ahead of Lo Celso.
