I have been thinking about this a fair bit. What would happen if for example Berbatov died?

Would we get any compensation? If we did, then how much would we get?

Kinda weird thing to think about, but it is quite interesting!

An interesting, if somewhat macabre, thread.

50 years ago, after the Munich air-disaster, did Man Utd have to play their remaining games?

Was the league suspended/cancelled?

Of course not. They got to ninth or tenth in the league (we were third) and lost to Bolton in the Cup Final. Famously, they put out a team of reserves and youth players against Wednesday in the cup barely a week after the crash.

And the sympathy generated by the crash was an enormous factor in making them what they are.

All players are insured are they not. did we not get some money when Dean Richards has to retire, i can't imagine death is any different.

IIRC Dean Richards tried to sue us for his tumor due to heading the ball or something:lol:

those vids are really scary..... thats so bad.

as pretty much stated, insurance would cover death of a player etc, but we couldn't get compensation, because nobody we cry about it to would really be forced to pay us money for anything.

I remember seeing that Fehrer footage a few hours after it happened, that's f*ckin heartbreaking. See him smiling and joking then seconds later he's on his back. From what i remember, the same condition that young Radwan Hamed suffers but, thankfully, is on his way to making a good recovery.

Insurance covers a lot of the players value, but it would be interesting (if a bit grim) to see the final summing up of "worth" when a high profile player dies - sponsors, boot sponsor, advertising/merchandising insurance, club insurance, personal insurance etc.

If the insurance on a footballer works in the same way as car insurance then if you think that Berbatov is worth £30m and he got written off tomorrow then I guess the insurers would offer you about £15m.
