I think it will be a disaster and we won't be getting in it for at least the next couple of years, bar a surprise move by Abramovich to ditch his toy.

I think we'll try again next season. There may be a few personnel changes, but we should be in the race again.

It's all about the 2011/2012 season

I believe we'll keep all of our players no matter where we finish, and also seriously strengthen

Who knows, perhaps our first 18 could look like this:

-------------Gomes---------

Kaboul--Dawson--Gallas--BAE

---------Diarra--Modric-----

Lennon-------------------Bale

-------------VDV------------

-----------Benzema----------

Subs: Cudicini, Corluka, Bassong, Jenas, Ashley Young, Hudd, Defoe

That team, my friends, would challenge for the EPL from the off

PS Didn't include King because he's usually injured

I think the Young Boys games played such a big part in our season. If we were going to fall apart I think that was the time we were likely to do it. Now, I'm not feeling like a bag of nerves watching Spurs, I'm feeling a lot more confident about results even when we're under pressure.

The pressure has been on us since we got in the hunt for 4th last year, we overcame that pressure and got 4th. We overcame the pressure of the qualifiers and made it into one of the toughest groups. We caught the eye of everyone in Europe with our displays and topped our group. We're still the hunt for fourth, looking very good most of the time but still winning when playing badly. We're climbing the table, going on a winning run with several suspensions and injuries to first team nailed on starters and all our players still look like they're improving. We've just overtaken Chelsea and got our first two back to back clean sheets, whilst playing 2 out of those three games with ten men. Doesn't sound very Spurs like, does it?

I think it'll take all of us a good while to get used to the idea, but they do seem to be trying to change our minds at present. It can actually get better as this isn't as good as it gets, even though at the moment it kinda feels that way! Hopefully we'll worry about it all falling apart after at least 6 seasons in the CL and maybe 3 PL titles.

i see no reason why VDV would leave. He was at hamburg for a few years with some of the biggest clubs in europe looking at him.

VDV + Modric, Hudd, Bale, Dawson are our future and we will let them lead the way ;-)

anyway, this is a moo point as we'll finish in the top 4 imo

Soup........I love your positiveness and wish a few more members on here would take heed that the Spurs of old, the mediocre one of the last 25 years has gone, vanished, departed, taken a hike as this new version is so much more fun and playing great football to boot.

What a pathetic topic. We have just gained 17 from 21 points. That is champions form. Its not our fault that the teams around us keep winning.
If we beat Everton on Weds then we will make up points on either City or Arse.
Don't worry about it and enjoy one of the finest Spurs teams you will ever see and that includes the front guys.

Will we lose players? Lose our confidence and momentum? It occurred to me that a lot of fans are taking it as a given that we will by fourth again, but if you try and look at it from an outside perspective then there is a very real risk if it happening just as much as there is a chance of getting that necessary position. Are we walking a tightrope?

I don't think we'll lose our players unless one of the super clubs make one of our players their top priority. Even then I woudn't be certain that they'd choose to leave us.

After two seasons in a row outside the top six I feared we'd lost momentum but then HR proved me and many others wrong by taking us to 4th in his first full season so I'm happy to believe that our momentum wouldn't be completely lost.

I'm not taking it as a given but due to how well we are playing I believe we could finish 4th. The competition is stiff ths year.

TBH I would rather focus on us trying for higher than 4th and winning than missing out of 4th, we need to change our mentality as fans, if we dont how can we expect the players too? We are in a great position and have only started performing in the league over the past 5 games, no reason we shouldn't be challanging for the title.

1) This.

2) It has already been stated by the club (officialy, if I remember), that future plans, including squad develoment and holding on to players, is not dependent on finishing in a CL spot this year. Dan Levy will be absolutely certain to not do a Leeds.

And...do you get an extra CL spot, to put in reserve for winning the EPL:shrug::grin:

It will be bad.

Despite making record revenue, we still made a loss.

This year we get CL money, however a large chunk of that cash is going to be swallowed up by the signings which were not reported in the loss. So VDV, Sandro etc is going to soak up some of that CL profit.

So next years finances will be healthy, but if we don't make the CL it is going to be grim financially a year later unless we can get our outgoings under control.

Think about it: We made record money. We still made 6 million loss. In reality it is more like a 20 million loss because of the transfers.

We will hopefully sell some players in Jan.

Jan is a classic gamble. Do we splash the cash on a striker to help our CL push? Or do we play it safe due to us failing to be profitable?

Keane, Pav and Defoe are like playing with 10 men. They should be the first on the block IMO. We actually need Bentley. Selling him will be a massive loss financially. We don't even have backup for Lennon. So I don't think getting 6 million will be of any value if we sell our bench for cheap.

It will be seriously bad if we miss out, if I am perfectly honest this league could go anywhere with any of the current top 5 winning it. The problem isn't so much if we get 4th but paying better wages to players like VDV, Bale and Modric. Although team spirit is high and players seem happy, we need to sooner than later start paying 100k+ to those type of players otherwise I fear we will lose them.

If we miss out on 4th then we'll have had this awesome season and we will not appreciate how fun this season has been.

Europa League would probably have eaten into that loss, and it was record money only marginally- there's been a fair amount of non-CL growth this season. The unreported purchases will be reported in the next set of accounts (and were purchased on the basis of getting CL income). You may as well say that any profit we make this year will be swollen by the Bale or Modric sales. It will be interesting if we get Stratford, however. It will not be easy to sell Bale, VDV, Modric, etc, at the same time as keeping the fan base onside.

As for Bentley, I tend to agree about the player, but his amortised value is down to about 8 million now, isn't it? Even 6 million would not represent a massive loss.
