Some comments re Tuesday

Maddison looked good when he came on, very influential, Foster was good as well. There still gonna struggle to get top 6.

Dont understand why he went weak. They have no europe, one game left before internationals why not go for it?

Another trophy less season for them

Yesterday

They are doing better than I expected!

10 points from 4 games and in 2nd position.

Last season they started with 17 points from first 7 games.
They're doing fine but let's see how they do in the winter months when you need to dig in home and away.
Good response from 1-0 down but Burnley made it so easy at times with endless space to run into, we should've scored five up there aswell.

Pretty annoying to see them do well.
I really like watching Spurs struggle!

They don't have Europe to worry about either.
Tottenham is gonna be a problem

Don't be fooled by them, they're massively outdone their xG so far. They shouldn't have veaten United and they scored 5 from 2.4xG against Burnley. So basically they beat Bournemouth and Burnley an avg if 1 xG only. Let's see how they go when people work them out and their overperformance on xG stops

They beat two relegation teams and got lucky against United. Lots of real tests to come for them

They weren't lucky against Man Utd at all - very much a deserved victory. They look good with lots of goals in their side.
Using xG to determine how a team should perform is utterly bizarre.

From what i've seen of them this season they still look pretty bad at the back. Think teams will figure them out relatively soon.

the fact that we've looked a bit shaky at the back doesn't mean Spurs don't also. Can't really be bothered to argue about it, we haven't looked the same without Mings, but Spurs also look a bit shit at the back too. Both can be true.

I do agree that teams will start to work us out and be interesting to see how we adapt.
Plus I do feel sides are bombing a lot of big chances against us. That will also change

Or, we'll get even better with Son up top, the new boys grow with even more confidence and Ange continues to improve us overall.

Teams may work out what we're about but if we're playing well and using our bench options effectively (which Ange has already demonstrated he can do) we're going to take some stopping imo

I'd counter with that Ange still probably hasn't figured us out yet either. He's managed to implement the base style very quickly and that is to his immense credit, but there will be lots of tweaks and nuances to come through the season. Some might fail, and I expect us to have a sticky patch at some point, but I'm not worried about sides "figuring us out" yet.

I don't think that the general formation and the ideas of where we're trying to get the ball too are too hard to work out for other teams, but I'm not sure I've seen any team I've watched with any regularity rotate players within that formation in the way that we are doing. It's incredibly fluid, and that can't be easy to play against when we get our tails up as it's not as if the oppo can prepare for specific 1v1 situations, as at any give time you could be facing up against any of about 4 different players depending on where you're covering on the pitch. A teams LB can expect Kulusevski to be their main man, but it'll also be Porro, and Sarr, and Madders at some point.

At one point yesterday Porro was picking up the ball from between the CBs ffs and going into midfield with it. But equally likely that's Bissouma, Udogie, Sarr or Maddison. It must be a bit confusing to face up to as it's not programmed in routines or triggered by anything as it's all situational and they're just switching positions.

All these things were said about his other sides though. Easy saying we will be worked out and another to implement a plan when you are getting pressed to fuck, the midfield is deadly and the front line has pace.

Will be interesting to watch, but one things for sure Villa are nowhere near a top side no matter how much they seem to believe they are

Yeah, we will have our ups and down for sure and we may get exposed at times, but the first 7 points were won with an out of form front 3 that had not clicked yet.

Son looked better leading the line. Solomon and Perisic offer very different qualities LW and Richarlison still has lot more to offer than what he has shown so far. He's right to be on bench on current form, but opposing fans are making big assumptions we will be found out soon.

The fact that 17 teams got into Europe last season from the prem has really given the fanbases some ego boost like they are now a force to be reckoned with.

Villa have been thumped by two teams away from home (two teams who they seem to think they are on the same level as) and only beaten two relegation fodder teams.

No it couldn’t. If he scores 107 goals in his next 41 games he will draw level on goals per game though, maybe then I’ll reconsider

Comparing a striker to someone playing left wing/wide forward.

Kane would always be expected to score more from where he was meant to be on the pitch.....plus penalties. But agree with what you mean, Kane is the bigger player out of him and son, and that's no disrespect to son, as he is an amazing player also.

I was being flippant, but Sonny is absolutely nowhere near Kane as a player. We’re deluding ourselves if we think otherwise

Ugh. What a fucking nerd. If this is what football ‘punditry’ is becoming then shoot me now.

"Always thought Son was better than Kane"

Jesus, Sonny has been my personal fave since he signed - that cute lil punim! - and he's one of the best players on the planet who could play for any side he wanted to IMO, but better than Kane? Give over. Kane is a guaranteed 30 goals a season player, even in a disjointed, struggling team and he'll take up the role of playmaker to boot if needed.

Also, when I come to power, those who mention xG will be sentenced to a minimum of 25 years hard labour.

You have been warned.

"Another trophy less season for them". From Villa Talk? From teams that are used to winning stuff, I get it - it's banter, shit banter, but banter nonetheless. From a Villa fan though? Last major trophy (league cup) in 1996 Villa? Even we've won two of them since 1996.

I'll never understand this modern breed of football fan. The complete lack of self awareness is mind boggling.

From the Mancs’ perspective, Son has caused them the most problems the last few years, so I kind of get where they’re coming from.
