It’s purely media driven, literally every pundit had us down to finish 8/9th in the league, our reliance on Kane over the years and him going, leads people to believe that is our level now.
I half expected that too 😂

A lot of people don’t even realise that the things they perpetuate against us hasn’t even been formed by them, they’re just repeating what they read or hear from pundits or journalists.

That’s why I hardly ever take opposition fans opinions seriously, it’s never their own articulated thoughts.

Aloy of our fan base thought the same I thought we'd challenge for top 5 but I'm always quite optimistic across a season

I am surprised in particular at Villa fans disliking us. What's their beef?

Overall, I guess we should be pleased at being underestimated. After 10 games, I think a lot of other fans will have changed their tune.

FWIW, I bet on us pre-season to finish Top 4.

City aside, nobody is nailed on to finish up there, and I'm very confident we'll exceed the expectations of most.

In regards to the Villa fans I think it’s two things, the first thing someone mentioned a couple pages back but they had a period under O’Neill where they were 4th/5th place for a few seasons and we came along and “took” that spot from them.

The second is probably just the usual jumping on the social media bandwagon of hating spurs, it’s the “cool” thing to do as an opposing fan these days regardless of how shit or how good your own team is.

I think a third could be that we've had a really good record at Villa Park. I've been a Spurs fan since 2005, and if I counted correctly from the link below we have 9 wins, 4 draws and 2 losses since then, one of those losses being in our awful season last year.

If you keep losing at home to a team you think you should be at a similar level at, you eventually start disliking them.

Nice whoring everyone, always love catching up on this thread to see the various meltdowns / differing views.

Good to see a fair balance of quotes so we’re not just cherry-picking the crazies.

I think we’re changing a few of the early season opinions of us so it’ll be interesting to see how teams change how they approach us. Can see teams starting to flood the central midfield spaces and forcing us out wide

I seem to vaguely remember us clapping villa/Newcastle in their fight against wank owners/going down. My minds a muddied place these days but don’t remember anything negative we’ve done to bring on this reaction

I remember stalking Villa Talk during their Martin O'Neill days and they despised us back then, I used to do that a fair bit after finding RAWK which was like a forum version of David Brent so obviously went looking for more .

I think we're easily the most hated club for whatever reason.

I'd not laugh at West Ham thinking they could do it. Leicester won the title counter attacking teams.

Then again City are 9/9 despite looking off their best. They started slowly last year too so I'd expect a record points haul from them.

West Ham don’t scare me. They executed their game plan at Brighton very well for 70 minutes and Antonio and Bowen are on form, but it’s also no exaggeration to say that Areola - the goalkeeper - has been their best player so far this season. They’ll be a solid top half team and maybe even challenge for top 6 but nothing more than that.

As for the comparison to 15/16, that year literally every one of the usual challengers from the previous decade had a basket case year. There’s no signs of that this year for City or Liverpool.

Back on topic for the thread, the Villa fans have had a weird chip on their shoulder about us for a decade. I remember a few Villa supporting acquaintances being in a bizarre denial of how the two clubs were headed in different directions once Martin O’Neill left there. I’m guessing as reality sunk in and we played in the Champions League while they played Championship football that denial turned into bitterness.

Given how

A) everyone seems to hate us

& b) this was (at least co-) written by a spurs fan

We should play this more at games as a wind up

United forums are hilarious right now on the Reguillon thread.

A couple of people praising the deal, theb others asking what the world is coming to when the fans are excited about signing someone who has been terrible for spurs.

Pleasant comments from Newcastle fans, even the Hammers and the Arsewipes acknowledged through gritted teeth we ain't too bad. Villa fans were arseholes though, not sure why.

Itll be interesting to hear the inbred comments from the Burnley faithful. They do have a great manager, I hope he achieves good things in the game.

Vardy, Mahrez, Kante. Absolutely carried the shit out of them. Even Drinkwater put in a good shift, whilst Huth and Morgan played rugby at the back and somehow got away with an average of around 800 fouls per game between them.

Whilst Moyes is good at making his teams hard to break down and gritty, he's not got as good the players for it.

They're having a really good start after what was a fairly disappointing transfer window (according to the Wham fans that I know at least). I doubt they'll keep it going enough to challenge for top 4, but they may have a good season like the one a couple of years back.
