I’m the other way - for me it’s great to see other names up there and making the league more interesting and competitive. Means we just have to maintain high levels to reach our goals.
I don't mind seeing other clubs up there and challenging, I'd just rather that they didn't start hating on us as soon as they are.
Why are we now Villa's most hated team, above the teams that have cheated or bought their success?

We should all be happy that Villa are up and competing as it makes the league better but their fans make it impossible to think that way because they're a bunch of fucking weirdos.

Well yes, absolutely. This strange, sudden bitterness towards us doesn't endear them to me though. Quite the opposite in fact. Same thing happened with Leicester. Weird.

Villa used to be our level a while ago, back when Solano was playing. One season finishing ahead of us and they are now miles ahead it seems.

City fans complaining about how boring other teams are? City are unwatchable most of the time, boring defences to death until they fall asleep and don't track a run.

Blimey, that’s rich. Aston is hardly Beverly fucking Hills 😭

We annoy so many people that even though for the majority of the 1990s and those early PL years, we were so piss poor and mid table, we’re now consistently competing at the top, regularly in Europe and make more money (without being bank rolled) than most of them. I love it.

It also helps we’ve never been relegated from the Prem. How many times have bloody Villa, Leeds and Newcastle etc been down or in relegation scraps. We haven’t.

It's because we get mentioned among the big 6 clubs and haven't won anything for a long time. They don't seem to comprehend that it's because we've finished top 6 a lot over the last 15 years or so. Now they've finished above us they think they're on our level but they need to finish top 6 across several seasons first. Never been fussed by them but its funny they are getting big headed over a top 6 finish for the first time in ages. Just enjoy what your team is doing and get rid of that chip on your shoulder.

Like that as well, reason why I hope Everton drop once. (I know, very big of me.)

Because, despite it having flown under the radar initially, Aston Villa’s new owners are far closer to the likes of City, Newcastle and Chelsea then they are to ours.

They’re borderline state-owned by an Egyptian billionaire who partnered with a US investment company which took them from being a very seriously struggling championship team financially, into the 5th richest club in England overnight.

Like all other clubs that get bought out by ‘sugar-daddies’, their morals go out the window and they almost develop a distaste for clubs ‘doing things the right way’ as they see these clubs as a stick to beat them with if they win.

Basically, the Villa fans know not to throw stones from inside glass houses and thus Spurs become the most logical target, as is often the case.

The thing is we ARE in the top 6 trophy winners. Now we have the best stadium, generating the most matchday income and turnover. And doing it all organically not through oil money. We should be lauded, not criticized. Blows my mind how you slag of a well run football club doing it the right way but give City, Chelsea and Newcastle a pass. Weird people. It's never crossed my mind to dislike Villa, they're a big club with a great tradition and battling the oil clubs at the top and I'd be more than happy if they won it instead of City/Liverpool/Arsenal/Chelsea but comments like theirs make me change my view.

it’s a little unfair when the opposition sits back. They are a victim of their own making.

Because it's easier to excuse your team being crap, when everyone better than you are doing it by financial doping. Spurs doing it the organic way, undermines their whole understanding of how football works.

Its those league titles that hurts. Lets be honest. Villa 7! Everton 9! even Newcastle with 4.

Without checking they've won nothing much in the Premier League era though. And we have had far more top 4 finishes than them

I love this thread so much. If the fans of the Villas, Newcastle etc were being honest with themselves they hate us because they’re jealous that we broke the stranglehold of the old top 4 and we’ve sustained our position once we got there.
There’s always a team on the cusp of doing the same: Leicester a few years back and recently Villa and Newcastle, but no other team has of yet managed to do the same. We’re the target as we’re on paper the ones that can be got at, but so far no one has been able to go toe to toe and remove us from the equation. So to watch all the hatred come our way when they are on the up only makes their inevitable decline all the more sweet.

Further to that, the mistake other teams are consistently making is waiting for someone like us to become crap again which would allow them by default to become a member of the top 6. What we did was barge in with our elbows out and just took what we wanted.
