Wasn't Jamie Redknapp the first to actually use the expression? I'm sure he was reviewing a game and mentioned us being a bit well...Spursy. It then stuck. Prior to that I think we were just referred to as soft centered. Always a team who played some nice football but lacked the physical edge in games. I think Jol was the first to really have us fighting and to be taken more seriously. We were still losing big games though and considered legends at times.

Spursy is just an updated expression of what people were saying about us since the 90s I think.
Redknapp may as well have been describing himself

WHU fan on Monday Night Club reckons they got a better squad than us and Villa. Almost a stunned silence when he said it and the anchor tried to help him talk his way out of it.

People are fucking nuts.
The little muppet is getting a panning on the BBC sports feed today.

That match is often brought up as if (conspiracy theory alert) Fulop threw the game. However, Fulop had a lot of respect for and was honored to be signed by us.

It's more likely that he just had a bad day at the office. It was his first league game and only a third appearance of the season, so I suspect that he was a little rusty and not attuned to the game or team-mates. It's also possible that he was not physically well as the next year he had a tumor removed from his arm.

Whilst one could think that he threw the game, Fulop was playing for a new contract (which, of course, he didn't get) and thrown in the deep end for his one league game of the season. I am thus more inclined to believe Fulop's take (just before his sad early exit to cancer) on the whole sorry day.....

“I've never watched the Arsenal game again, I'm not a masochist.
“I had not played a competitive game for eight months and I was not physically or mentally prepared. It was a nightmare and it took me a long time to get over.
"Before and during the game I had not thought about the consequences for Tottenham, but afterwards I did and that made it harder. I was a Spurs fan as a boy and then I joined the club, so they are very close to my heart.
“I watched the Champions League final praying Bayern Munich would win because I wanted Tottenham to qualify. Obviously, I was upset it didn't happen.”
That's just incredibly sad.

The irony is, the majority of teams fans would rip a bollock off to be in a position to be considered 'Spursy' but yet try to take the piss.

You gotta be there to fail in the first place, these guys are at home with their trousers around their ankles, trying to mock us for being out and about but not finding a wife...
Billy NIcholson: “It is better to fail aiming high than to succeed aiming low. At Spurs we set our sights very high, so that even failure will have in it an echo of glory.”

In itself, you have described the Spurs way.....just that those goons up the road put a negative slant on it!

His final sentence got chopped off your post, so I added it.

So much knee jerking in the current mob aye.

I can’t do match day thread on here, for the extremists. This spammer is almost the norm…wants more, expects more and now, can’t wait, no patience.

I find it incredible how teams like Villa and West Ham can spend years flirting with relegation, suddenly they have a couple of decent seasons and their fans expect them to regularly finish top 6.

The expectation and entitlement of the football fan always amazes me.

The important thing for us to remember as far as other teams fans go is.
We still haven't played anyone decent.
Our position in the league is false because we have had the easiest first 24 games out of every one in the entire Premier league ennit 🤔🙄

Prediction Thread

  • Really not sure on this one.. They are good at home, we are good on the counter. If Cunha was fit then maybe we could have snuck it. Need a Neto masterclass me thinks. Head 2 - 1 to them or draw...heart 1 -2 to us Hwang at the double with a double Neto assist
  • 1-1 Neto
  • The way we have been defending lately I think we could be on for a pasting. 3-1 unfortunately. I hope I am wrong, I think Neto will give a bit of magic on the big stage, but unless we have an awesome defencive performance we are on for a battering.
  • 3-3
  • It's a happy hunting ground for us. 2-2 draw
  • I can see a bit of an end to end game, with plenty of chances for both sides. Spurs will give you opportunities, so need to take a few. I was thinking 2-1 to them, but I will side with a 2-2 draw.
  • 0-2 Spurs.
  • Spurs 4 Wolves 3. An entertaining one for the neutrals. Another match that should be on the telly but isn't. Not officially that is. Stupid league. Stupid broadcasters.
  • I think we’ll lose and hope we don’t let them score more than two.
  • Cunha's news puts a dampener on this tbh. Is Hwang able to play? Either way I think Spurs will have too much for us, 2-0 or 2-1.
  • Spurs 4-1 Wolves. I think they're really good with everyone fit and available.
  • Wolves have done well on the. recent travels to London, and might do so again. Tottenham 1 - 3 Wolves.
  • We simply will not cope with their style of play. Most impressive team in the prem this season by a long way for me. Richarlison and Maddison also in the same side? God help us. 3-1 wolves
  • Think we are being underestimated here. On our day we can match anyone. Wolves to win 3-2
  • I dont think Cunha is the swing factor here. Can our defence handle them ? Heart says 1 nil Wolves, head says 3 nil Spurs.
  • Both Porro and udogie are doubts apparently which could be a real bonus
  • Oh no was hoping Udogie would play he’s all over the shop at the back. Porro is a bonus dirty get
  • We're due a shellacking, and this is likely the one. Just no injuries, please.
  • Don't be afraid Netherton, just think of the O'Keeffe family motto; fortis fortuna adiuvat. Roughly translated to; Fortune favours the brave, and since I'm enjoying a cold O'Keefe right now I'm going for our favourite score against such rapscallion teams.... 1-2 to us. 😎

Wolvesforum.co.uk
  • Porro and Udogie both missed training for them, would be a big boost for us if they’re out
  • Think the latter had his head turned by interest from Barcelona last month. Laporta phoned Daniel Levy up and asked "how much is Udogie in the window?". I'm SO sorry.
  • Mate, that is your Gerald Ratner moment, how are you ever to come back from this?
