Was paddling happily in a boat with my son wearing a Reading shirt last weekend and some **** in another boat comes along and says 'We'll thrash you next weekend'; up until then I wasn't too bothered about the result, expecting us to lose; now I'm desperate to get a result. What a twat.

Us Spurs fans are known for ruling the waves with our savage predictions and our cruel taunting. Argh.

I think if you're going to wear a football shirt in public you can't be too shocked if you get some banter for it. Seems overly sensitive to me, but then everyone is these days.

I've been looking at Redcafe (as they have a big member base) just see what other fans thought of our display, they are really putting the boot into us and the general consensus is that we looked poor. Are we looking at this win with rose tinted glasses or are they being overly harsh?

I think we looked much improved and certain things are starting to click with top talent still to be fully integrated into the squad.

Spurs were poor, Reading were appalling.
------
Not surprised by Spuds display, very reminiscent of Chelsea under Avb.

Over exertion because of the tactics employed, soon they will become suicidal. It won't be good for Spuds as the season goes on, players will become knackered.

AvB hasn't learned that.

And I am saying all this despite Spuds winning.
------------
Reading were dire, Spurs were OK at best. Amazing how not playing Livermore can improve a team though.
---------
Spurs come to OT in two weeks, they'll need to play a whole lot better to avoid being marmalised.
---------
Reading were very poor today, cant judge spurs on today's game. I reckon we'l have no problem beating them in two weeks.

I predict a 5th place finish for spurs at best this season.
---------
They don't look anywhere near as fluid as last year, everything just seemed smoother and less forced. Gylfi hasn't been great though which hasn't helped as you need him to link, especially after losing your playmaker in Modric.

Bale needs to stop going walkabouts and stick to the wing.
---------
5th is the best they can hope for I reckon.

Although its early I think Arsenal are just an allround better team. And if they aren't Spurs always find a way to cock it up and finish behind them.
--------
They are fucking dire to watch compared to last season. Really slow boring possession game.
--------
Reading were incredibly poor, made Spurs look like much better than they really are.
--------
They haven't looked that great yet, but that's mainly due to their team not being settled. Either way, they're probably going to end up 5th, at best.

That's why I don't understand some people praising Levy as some sort of financial genius. He's running a football club and yet waits until the last possible moments of the transfer window to do his business.

Sure, he gets a few extra million quid, but it's generally ti the detriment of the team.
-------
Early days and all, but it looks like they'll be a completely different animal.

They seem devoid of creativity, but have a lot of energy and pace to compensate. I suppose it could stand them in good stead in away games and derbies.

If they want to be in the top four though, they'll have to find a way around parked buses. Can't picture them doing that consistently enough. Not with Dempsey and Sigurdsson.

And, for all the talk of Spurs being a less demanding job in terms of handling dressing room egos, Boas is already in hot water over Adebayor and Lloris. He'll have plenty to chew on.

To be fair, there are some valid points in there:

"Bale needs to stop going walkabouts and stick to the wing."
"And if they aren't Spurs always find a way to cock it up and finish behind them."
"They haven't looked that great yet, but that's mainly due to their team not being settled. Either way, they're probably going to end up 5th, at best."

Seems quite harsh, but I'm aware of the fact that Reading were quite poor yesterday. I don't think we can truly guage ourselves just yet!
Hopefully this attitude will help us when we visit OT. Nothing quite like a bit of under-estimation to rub a few noses in it. Just hope we don't get tonked :cautious:

Yanayted fans don't need to concern themselves with how well we're playing, though. Regardless of form we'll go to Old Trafford and get shafted by Fergie's current favourite referee as always.

Its going to be interesting how they cope with our pressing mdfield though and you know they will be fearing Dembele.

Well, the truth as always is somewhere in between.

You can of course only beat what is in front of you and at times we made Reading look poor. But no, we were not Barca beaters and there is still work to be done. Man Utd away will be a big ask given there isn't really a fear factor about our team yet. Ther eis no Modric or VdV that makes the opposition sit up and go "we must neutralise them".

That can work in our favour as our all round team I think will ultimately gel better, but alas I fear not in time for United. United fans are over confident for a reason, when was the last time we beat them? Especially at OT??

Dembele and Sandro are going to beastly IMO. I'll say it right now, I reckon we'll be stronger with Dembele in the side than Modric away from home.

I think Result was far more important than display, now we have the win in the bag i think we will slowly see our performances improve.
Have to agree with some of the points.

The result will install confidence into the team and from that will come better performances and more encouraging results.

All from an English speaking Lazio forum.

saw their match today against reading... we can take them!

At last a real test to rate our team.

I watched some of Totenham`s match yesterday and I must admit we might face serious problems with their pace.

Bale is so quick and special attention should be paid. He should be kept as far as possible from the goal as he is not only capable of dribbling, but also win free kicks close to the gate.

This is a genuine test for us.

if you put Scaloni against Bale ...anyway Bale can play at LB or RB so we must stop him in midfield

I think Ledesma will take care of Bale so I would not worry too much...

Bale needs to be defended by a zonal defense and not man-marked.
There is no defender in the world capable of stopping Bale on 1-1 for the time being.

It appears the Spurs will also be without their left back as Benoit Assou-Ekotto (a very decent player indeed and of the most consistent for them) was injured and will be out for 4 weeks.

In my opinion Bale is overrated. He is a hard-working fast player with an extraordinary sense of the game but that's it. His game works good in England but now that the surprise factor is gone, most defenders in Italy and Spain can handle him pretty good.

This game all depends on what side Spurs play. They were dominant yesterday and so the pressure is off AVB but is the pressure off enough for him to consider fielding a second string side?

In my opinion, we should field a full strength side if they play a weakened side but rest a few individuals if they are full strength and try to beat them tactically.

People are saying we can handle Bale. No we can't. No one can handle Bale's pace, problem is he can't handle it himself sometimes. With players like Konko, Lulic, Cavanda and Candreva, we have enough pace in our wings to handle Spurs threat as good as any other side in the world but sometimes we will have to double up on Bale, which is fine since Assou-Ekotto is out.

Spurs are tough to prepare for. Are we going to get Adebayor (if so, Ciani and Dias would be useful) or Defoe (in which case Biava may suffice) or both?

Don't expect a win. If you do, you are crazy. In saying that, Petkovic has shown enough to allow us to dream...

We should secure at least 1 point from this game n like I said before on another thread, the game vs panathinaikos n maribor are the key in this group.

I'm pretty sure that AVB will give a rest to a lot of the players that he used in their last game against Reading. He likes to rotate his team so players like Defoe, Dembele, Sigurdsson probably will end up not starting the game but Adebayor, Dempsey and Huddlestone are equally good.
