i found a lot of that patronising
Yanited fans? Patronising about Spurs? Never! The nicer they try to be the more my skin crawls. My granddad was in "the War" with a Manc. I do remember him speaking with genuine affection about Spurs when I was a nipper. Was his favourite game of the season. "Proper clubs playing proper football." He left this mortal coil in 95 though.

Since then, just been the odd hair-ruffle and sniggering from that lot.

This is a good fred.

even allowing for cross club partizanship..anyone who looks at that line up and still thinks Spurs are shite needs their fuckin bonce feeling...

All they did was spend the entire chunk of money that Real gave them on good players.

LOL. In scouseland this is seen as a negative.

yeah...soft twats
At least someone gets it.

It is interesting isn't it.

I can only draw one of three conclusions:

1. These players were not wanted by serious CL clubs, or at least weren't wanted at these prices, which I think is true, and makes you wonder just how good they really are.

2. Spurs are paying big, big wages now for some of these, which I think must be true especially considering where Willian has come from.

3. There is some other draw that we just don't have - London? Europa League? Luís André de Pina Cabral e Villas-Boas over Rodgers? Belief in project? Jedi mind tricks?

Whatever it is, we can only look after our own progress and trust that, as we are a fundamentally bigger club, we will, if well run, ultimately rise up above them again.

Tottenham are a good club who have been well run. They are demonstrating their ambition by selling their best player but reinvesting every penny. Fair play to them if it works.

We are a great club who have been shambolically run until recently. We are behind Tottenham for this reason and this reason only. We have demonstrated our ambition by signing two top drawer players (regardless of cost) who have now proven themselves in our league for 6 months, and retaining our best player despite a decent bid. Regardless of how much they spent or how well they did in their own leagues, I wouldn't swap Coutinho, Sturridge and Suarez for Soldado, Willian and Lamela (if they get him too), so just because we haven't sold and spent doesnt mean they will continue to be better. It is entirely possible that a couple of Brasilians who ahve never played in Western Europe and a 28 year old Spaniard can completely flop.

I am still looking forward to this season and am very, very positive. I find the whole running up of the white flag frankly embarrassing. If Rodgers or one of the players said "that's fourth gone" I would want them ran out of town. We have a chance of getting fourth this season; we are probably 3rd favourites, but that's inevitable given where we are coming from. Perhaps, though, we need to learn the lesson from Spurs that slow steady growth, buying and selling well and not spunking all your money in a rush without due diligence will deliver results. If we do learnt that lesson, and relearn the patience of the past, our ceiling is much, much higher than Tottenham's.

Very sure of himself. Well, he's not really. He's shitting himself but at least he's finding an adequate coping mechanism. As for his, "well, we just need the right ownership and management and and and and and and we'll rise once again to dominate for a single decade as we did 25 yrs ago. It's nature", guff, we know as well as anyone as Spurs fans that that shit is the hard part. The hardest part of all.

That this is the area they need to fix should terrify them, not comfort them.

I don't believe for a second Coleman is in the same bracket as Danny Rose. Any time I have seen him play, he has been more than capable defensively, and is also better technically that Walker / Rose.

Even if we assume he is weak defensively (IYO), the same could be argued certainly of Rose and possibly to a lesser extent Walker. So surely the fact he is better going forward (IMO), makes up for this supposed deficiency?

Coleman better technically? Please, he's just a trier with very limited ability.

The celling of Liverpool's is not greater than Tottenham's.

It's want you do today that matters moving forward, as great era's have come and gone in the past for standing still or not keeping up with the competition or times of change.

Tottenham are showing ambitions and a lot of clubs will be jealous of that we as a club need to get behind this project give it time and trust the people in charge...our investments most likely will be off set by Bale which shows a level of prudence unlike Leeds in the past or the Oil rich club.

I very much trust the people incharge of our financies.

Hah, just editing my post as you were responding. I agree entirely. There is no natural order in football. It's one of the few remaing charming aspects of the game.

Read this and I'm seriously confused. What the actual fuck? Are they counting Sturridge as a 20 goal a season player? Coutinho is good but he's not "top class" if they're referring to him. Gerrard is hardly that either now.

Bale was as responsible for a side's points as I think I have almost ever seen. He must have scored 4 or 5 last minute screachers to win them games. Any player coming in will do well to get near Bale's input.

Spurs have signed/are signing well, but they have to. They have lost their one stand out top class game changing player. We actually have 3 of them still at the club. Two of whom are 20 goal a season strikers.

He did? He isn't? I can't agree with this at all. Are you Walker's dad or something?

When I say he learnt a lot, I mean his problem is decision making ad he will have learnt from his mistakes last season.

But no I wouldn't swap Coleman for Naughton let alone Walker.

If you made a picture of the perfect modern full back, it would be sth like Ashley Cole or Cafu. Walker has everything those 2 have, athleticism, technique, determination, work ethic, creativity, pace, heading. He just lacks some of the reading of the game!

I'm not sure what Arsenal fans are saying at the minute.....

BUT I sure hope the ex Spurs posse (Jol, Berbatov, Parker, Taarabt & Bent) fire up on the weekend. This thread should be fascinating reading if they arrive at derby day on 0 points
