This guy is laughing but I don't think he understands that they are above us because they are scoring more then they are letting in.

Idiot.

Growing up in the 80's, Spurs were a big deal, we were one of the best and biggest clubs in the league along with Liverpool, Everton, Arsenal and Villa. I know gloryhunting fans of my age who support those other clubs despite living in the south-east. Then Sugar Scholar came along and we spent 15 years in the wilderness, we went from the nearly men to wanabees in the eyes of fans who don't remember life before Sky.

I don't want to take this thread off topic but that's a perfect illustration of how our continued assocation with all things yid is a self-perpetuating thing and attracts anti-semitic ***** just as much as it supposedly deflects it.

I know this sounds wierd as these guys talks complete sense, but this is from RAWK: (about Spurs for the title)

They won't hold their nerve...nobody said they're going to win it, but I don't think they'll be too far off. What had Chelsea done pre Roman days by the way?

Lloris/Friedel

Walker/Naughton Chirches/Dawson Kaboul/Vert Rose

Paulinho/Sandro Dembele/Capoue

Lamela/Townsend Eriksen/Holtby Lennon/Gylfi

Soldado/Defoe

Barring depth at LB, where Vertronghen is very handy and Capoue can play as well, there's 0 weaknesses in that squad. The RB backup isn't great either to be fair. Their second choice goalie is the best in the league, they have absolutely immense depth and quality in the middle of the park. Their wings look very good and they have one of the top strikers in Europe over the last few years leading the line, with Defoe as a very able backup. This formation/list doesn't even include the likes of Adebayor/Chadli who can be very decent on their day too.

That's a frighteningly good squad with a manager whose won trophies before...had an unbeaten treble very recently if some of you've forgotten. Its very easy to point to their history and say they haven't done this or that, but if Lamela/Eriksen/Soldado click, I can't see any reason why Spurs can't improve on last season by 10 points and thus challenge for the league title.

Sometimes selling your best player can improve you. Remember how Juventus invested the Zidane money in Buffon, Thuram and Nedved ? Not saying Bale is as good or ever will be as Zizou or that the likes of Lamela/Soldado/Chirces/Paulinho are anywhere near the class of those 3 Juve legends, but its the same principle. Sell a player for a huge sum and buy well using it, and not just one, but 3 or 4 quality players. Spurs have done that 2 summers in a row for the most part barring some iffy ones like Gylfi (whose playing very well this year anyway) and mainly Dempsey. This lot are miles ahead of us imo, absolute miles. We had our own Bale moment 2 years back, with 70 million from Torres and other player's sales and over 35 million of our owners money and barring Suarez, we bought either mediocre or for the most part, spent it on shite. Tottenham will most likely play CL football next year, while we'll be in the Europa league, and our best player then will also leave us, with fucking Tottenham Hotspur finally becoming a far more attractive destination than LFC for any perspective player, if they aren't already.

Not usually, but weirder things have happened. Due to all the changes that have happened at the top, things look so open at present, and as Spurs are getting points on the board early whilst the new team is still is in it's infancy then I see no reason for people to not ask the question.

You can sell your best player, but it's how you replace him that counts. In my view Spurs have done that as well as they could have. They are not playing the same way without "him". If they were trying to replicate the same manner of playing then yes they'd struggle.

Spurs didn't bottle finishing 4th. 26 points in the last 12 games, good enough for 3rd in the form table over that period. The problem was Arsenal were 1st and Chelsea were 2nd in that time frame. The real reason Spurs failed to finish 4th was only gathering 17 points from the first 12 games as the team struggled for an identity in the post Modric/VDV era.

If we are in that position come March/April, we will see if the mentality is there. But what I sense about this Spurs team is a real fearlessness that translates from the Head Coach to the players.

Good to see a rival fan acknowledge that we didn't bottle it last season. Really annoys me when other fans sugest last season was a carbon copy of the year before. They were very different. A Gooner I follow on twitter has this morning RTd a couple of Opta stats: Arsenal have the best rate of converting shots into goals in the EPL so far (20%) Spurs have the lowest conversion rate (6%) Seems odd that a Gooner would want to broadcast that, as it could be interpreted that Arsenal are not being as dominant as their run of 4 straight wins would suggest, while we are winning our games more comfortably than the scorelines would suggest (certainly true in our 2 home games). I'm really not convinced by Arsenal - they made hard work of an awful Sunderland team and in open play yesterday were largely matched by Stoke at home. Their fans are seemingly still too blinded by their shiny new toy to see it themselves.

Nail. On. Head. Although we should consider the quality of our goal attempts (many of which are from distance) - I'd much rather see a Soldado goal attempt from 10 yards out than a 30 yard shot from Andros!

Scholar? In that period we won the UEFA cup, finished 3rd in the league three times and got to three FA cup finals, winning two. After he left we didn't finish higher than 7th in 16 years! We did win the league cup, and we got 3 FA cup semi's, though.

I've been saying this all summer. I'm glad a rival fan sees it because I've had almost no luck in convincing other yids

I got a tenner at 50.

Oh well that's another puppy gone to meet it's maker.

There are are fans of clubs and there are football fans. Football fans will watch games that do not involve their team because they love the game. Many of these will see the relevant merits of of other teams because not only are they looking for it but are open to it as well.

We do have a shot at the title this year and as a betting man I haven't had a bet for us to win outright but felt that 16/1 at +16 points was buying money.

For me the favorites for the title are Man City, they have won it recently, have a relatively settled squad that has been together for a while and a lot of strength in depth. Chelsea fans can't see beyond the end of their nose, Liverpool fans are mostly delusional, Arsenal fans cant really see beyond us and Man Utd fans are shitting themselves.

Man City fans are genuinely considering us as contenders, the others cant bring themselves to admit it.

We, as fans are only just accepting the possibility ourselves. It will soon dawn on everyone, including the delusional that we are title challengers this year.

This little gem is from a gooner on a Cardiff V Spurs match report on MSN:

Spurs have been fortunate so far, I thought you'd be kicking @ss after spending £109m, but you've only scored 5 goals in 5 games (one a penalty that never was when Townsend clearly dived against Swansea) you need a 30 goal a season striker & against Cardiff Lloris was clearly outside his line & should have seen red, but as we know, the big teams get the big decisions.

Wow a Gooner admitting we're a big team...I'm shocked!

I guess it all boils down to what a "title contender" is? We have been there or there abouts for large portions of the season for the past couple of years. This really isn't a Blackburn scenario where we have come from nowhere to suddenly be considered as title contenders, we have building steadily for a good few years now certainly from the beginning of the Jol era. I personally consider us to be in the title race, I certainly don't think we won't win it down to the quality of our team when measured against the others. As I was saying to a gooner student of mine this morning (I'm a secondary school teacher in Norwood) over the past 81 games Arsenal have secured 2 more points than us, Chelsea have secured 8 fewer than us, neither team has particularly strengthened or certainly not as much as we have and yet they are considered challengers and we are not?

Since 25 of november 2012 we have played 31 league games, winning 20 losing 4 and drawing 7. Over the course of a full season that would give us 82 points, that is title challenging form. If you bring that forward to the 3rd of March 2013, we have played 19 games winning 13, losing 3 and drawing 3 taking 42 points. Over the course of a full season that would give us 84 points.

No, this has been coming for a long time. We have all of the ingredients to win it, a very talented and deep squad, a tactically astute manager and a great togetherness.

We can win it.

Sorry if this has been posted.

Spurs vs Chelsea Match thread:

well here it is looming again...for me and people like minded, one of our very important matches and venues...This one at the moment gives me a heap of worry...Are we good enough at present to go there and win..Is a draw a good result considering spurs are reasonably good this season..Of course also, will they tame us...Ok so its in the lap of the gods as football is a very strange game. Will be in block 36 row 13 seat 148 if anyone wants to buy me a flagon of beer..Or punch me in the head.....One thing is for sure...Im expecting our players to pull out all the stops to beat the filth...I also expect every Blue to sing till theyre raw.

Gonna be some game this.

They are a very attacking side and they are two points above us and joint top.

The Willian affair adds some extra spice, as does Jose versus AVB.

Going to be a very hostile atmosphere.

We will need some cool heads ..

I'm available Jose if you want me.

I was living in ignorant bliss until I started reading this thread. Now I'm not only facing a nasty week at work, but also anxious about the match. Sigh, fast forward please!

Not confident about this game, id take a draw.

City used United to hit some form, this is our opportunity. We have a great record at WHL, Mourinho was winning leagues while AVB was in charge of getting the coffee, and we all hate Spurs! This is one of those flashpoint games that can turn fortunes and I hope the players are well up for it.

-------------- Cech --------------

Ivanovic - Luiz - Terry - Cole

----- Ramires ---- Mikel ------

Willian ---- Oscar ---- Hazard

-------------- Eto'o --------------

He'll probably start Cahill over Luiz (can't argue) and Schurrle for Willian. But I think we can all agree Willian is going to feature at some point. I hope as many of this bunch as possible are rested midweek to give others struggling to get a game an opportunity. I don't think Jose would do it, but I'd rather KDB over Hazard at the moment. He was brilliant in our early games and looked good in the little time he got when he came on. Hazard hasn't been at the races lately, but he's been a nailed on starter.

I would hate it if we ended up playing for just a point. We better win this one.

Willian is going to score here, can just feel it.
It's either going to be a draw or a narrow Chelsea win.

Luckily for us Tottenham are away to Villa on Tuesday night and I suspect they will take the LC seriously, though of course they will make changes.

Does anyone know if the ties go to extra-time in this round?

Last season we had a fantastic win in a game I was lucky enough to be at, sitting with the Chelsea fans cheering and jeering. "You'll never sing our song". We were a bit lucky in that Bale and Dembele were missing in that game. In retrospect that was the highpoint for most of the season and certainly for RDM as only a month later he was on the way out.

Roll on 12 months and things are a lot different.

Despite the win against Fulham I'm not convinced Chelsea is a happy place. Publicly slagging off Mata humiliating him by saying he'll be selected against Swindon and dropping him and Luiz from the squad is gunna do something to morale. It just will.

On the other hand Spurs have yet to settle as a new team.

I can't see too many changes from the Fulham starting 11.

KDB did put in a beautiful effective pass against Fulham when he was on. Hazard's been running back and forth across the park but has not penetrated forward. Would I pick KDB over Hazard? Probably not but I could bring him on at half time. Mikel made over 90% succesful passes but few that counted.

For striker I might give Eto another go at least for 50 minutes. He seemed to be looking increasingly sharp against Fulham with some neat turns.

The game will likely be more open than many we have see for a while.

One thing's for sure if we don't at least draw we will be starting to drop off the pace in the league.

We cannot be a team that plays for a tie, ever. Did Ferguson ever play for a tie?

Tottenham are garbage. AVB is a closet homo and wants to buttf**k his players. We can shut them down and make them suffer.

I really should shut my mouth but cant....It was either here or the rant thread, so here it will be......Im aware its happened many times but the embarassment is eating away at me...Spurs v us.......Fans going to meet en masse at Liverpool street......Yep ok thus far...So i was talking to a fan who is doing this then this is what he said........Few of us are drinking at Liverpool street for an hour before we get our police escort to S..H..L.......I said why dont we go closer to the ground for a couple then no police escort will be wanted...THEN HE SAYS.......Well we need an escort coz spurs fans will kick off otherwise.....F@@@ you W@@@@@ Chelsea F@@@@@@@ go to leyton orient..;;..//''''[[........,,,,llll

Spurs aren't exactly free scoring as yet, I think it's a good opportunity to play them before all the new signings fully settle.

Willian has got to start hasn't he!

Always look forward to these games, I'm expecting us to line up something like:

Cech

Ivan - Cahill - Terry - Cole

Ramires - Lampard

Willian - Oscar - Hazard

Eto'o

I think the game will be won or lost in the midfield, not sure Lampard/Ramires is the best partnership but I imagine Jose will put his faith in Frank to deliver the goods, personally on current form I would put Mikel in there.

AVB isn't going to sit back against us, it's not in his nature so I think there is going to be space to exploit on the counter attack which might just suit Mourinho despite his saying about being pro-active not reactive... It might be an fashioned Chelsea performance for this one, soak up some pressure then smash and grab on the counter.

I agree Spurs will attack us which will play into our hands anyway. AVB is pretty stubborn. I'm not sure he'd set up to defend against Barca away. Having flash backs of that high line already.

Playing away from home will suit us, im confident Spurs are struggling to score goals aswell.Mourinho wont want to let AVB beat him.Looking forward to this game and yes Willian needs to start i can see him scoring. Another 3 points at 3 point lane.
