Sky like to let him feel important and relevant for his own sake.
Nah. He's there because he makes a fool of himself with what he says, and the ridicule he gets from the rest of the panel when he says stupid things are meme-worthy to sell their product.

I just want to have another bitch about some of the gormless commentary in Spurs games. After our third goal the commentator spoke about it being a great break from Kulusevski but there was a 16 pass sequence starting from the back that came before the ball to him.

This is a recurring theme in our games where seasoned pros and commentators keep talking about our goals being counter attacking when they are anything but that. Yes there is space behind the opposition for us to play the ball into, but we create that space with neat passing phases that encourage and subsequently beat the press.

Paul the coke Merson on his sky channel: “you take Kane out of the team, top four ain't happening for Spurs. It's as simple as that. When he doesn't turn up at Burnley away, they get beaten. Tottenham are a one-man team and that's not being disrespectful.

You could have a Ferrari, but without an engine in the car it ain't working. He's the all-round package, and that's why he's the best centre-forward in the world, and I've said it for a long, long time.”
What an arse
What he's saying in his sad little way is that Arsenal have no individual that can begin to compare with Harry Kane therefore the loss of any one player doesn't make that much difference.

I can inform you that our man Mr. Erik Thorstvedt is doing a piece in the build-up to the Villa game on exactly this point, how we suddenly spring forward so fast it looks like a counter attack but, more impressively, we're doing it against a set opposition.

On TV 2 Sport Premium Norway, if you're interested :barefoot:

Seriously I don't want to toot my own horn but our pundits are by and large so much better than the dross you get served up in the UK.

I absolutely shall not be seeking that channel on any perfectly legit service provider :cautious:

I heartily disagree. I can't stand to watch TV2, it's all knee-jerk nonsense, and most of it is centred on Liverpool and Man United.
I'll give you that Thorstvedt is pretty OK, but sometimes he seems like he feels like he needs to shit needlessly on Spurs,.
Since getting perfectly legal iptv last year, I usually watch BT or Sky.

Each to their own then.

I will contest that Brede Hangeland was the best pundit I've ever seen on TV for the years he was with us, and it was a great shame for our coverage but totally understandable that the national team setup poached him.

As for Erik, well he's a Spurs fan through and through. Have you ever met a Spurs fan that doesn't shit on Spurs from time to time?

He could at least try to be positive sometimes. Did you listen to their pre-season prediction podcast? It was total trash, without any facts backing up their claims.

Doesn’t get any better when they barely cover our games - our thrashing of Newcastle is barely mentioned on their website, not even a montage of the goals.
Can’t wait for them to lose the PL rights next season

This counter attack thing has become a stick to beat Spurs with, for some reason. As if it's a negative, and as if every attack comes from sitting back. If they are going to expand the definition of 'counter attack', then every attack in every game is a counter. One team loses the ball through a variety of reasons, the other team gets the ball and goes forward = counter attack. Simplistic analysis, as usual.

As for Merson. He's perfect for Sky. A soundbyte machine for their social media to whip up engagement. Either geeks mocking whichever club it is, geeks posting unrelated stuff or mega geeks asking anyone if they need business cards designed.

Suits us I reckon. More and more opponents will believe it and not actually focus on what we really do.

Anytime I see a headline that has “Paul Merson says….” I just know it’s not worth reading or listening to his opinion

he’s an ignorant troll who happened to be a professional player years ago

as for Kane? Look at United without Ronaldo. Take any world class player and fulcrum out of a side and you’ll be impacted

but who knows how we’d adjust? Not worth worrying about until /if it happens

He's only got a job at Sky because they know he'll be living in a skip a fortnight after they sack him off. His prime function there is to come out with stupid shit that everyone else laughs at.

Does anyone have that clip of Agbonlahor recently on talksport saying that Arsenal would have top 4 wrapped up and Spurs would be scrapping for 8? There's a lot of competition but he's surely the biggest clown on that channel
