What would your reaction be?

How would you react to a rebranding of the Spurs home kit?

If Spurs were in the same situation as Cardiff right now?

An over sea's investor taking over and changing the kit and badge of the club's kit

Their debt is being cleared and they will maybe become a more competitive club as a result, the colour change and inclusion of the dragon ties in with their national colours so see some logical ties for the new colour

BUT

They have worn blue for 104 years, they are the Bluebirds

Assuming this change leads to them establishing themselves as a PL side as well as being secured with no chance of going out of business now, what would your reaction be if Spurs were in a similar situation?

Obviously not red, but what if a new owner was going to make us a CL team capable of winning the league but it meant changing the colour of the kit to say Yellow with the Away kit being White and the Badge becoming a lion with the Cockerel featuring to a lesser extent on the badge as will be seen on the new Cardiff kit.

Would the heart and soul of the club be lost to you? the clubs identity and history tarnished with a change of home kit to Yellow and redesign of the badge? or would it be a small price to pay to see us get the type of investment that would lead us to sustained success?

Its not as easy to directly compare I suppose because we aren't faced with massive debt or the possibility of doing a Pompey/Rangers like Cardiff, but still its a rather interesting subject I think and one I am surprised to see happening in football.

Did you read the post? I said obviously not red.

I did read your post but ...

... what if it was red? How acceptable would it be then? Surely that has to be the real question to get a proper response.

I would still be a Spurs supporter but I would absolutely hate it. I would want them to remain the Lilywhites. I believe the first strip back in the 1880s was black and red stripes but that was soon changed and navy and white adopted. It's tradition and I hate to see money overruling that. I'm sure most Cardiff supporters are incensed and unhappy and that's entirely understandable.

said would depend on the circumstances

I know people are having fun laughing at Cardiff but if this is allowed it could be your or our club next .

then again clubs have changed their colours throughout the years, we wore Red for 6 seasons, Liverpool used to play in Blue, Everton used to play in Red and Leeds only changed to all white in the 1960's so the colour of the kit isn't really that big a deal for me

I think if Red it would be met with a lot more resistance than any other colour

I think in all honesty the Cardiff change of colour is a lot easier being as they play in an English league and are Welsh, so the red kit and Welsh dragon on badge will actually act as some kind of national pride as they go into England to battle week in week out etc

Plus none of their direct rivals wear that colour

There seems to be quite a split in reaction from the Cardiff fans (according to Sky Sport News)

Mixed with outrage and talk of the heart and soul being removed from the club with this change by the more vocal fan, yet a local paper ran a poll with a simple yes/no option to question the level of support for the colour change and 70% were in favour.

I think their circumstances and their national link to the new colour (plus the fact they represent Wales week in week out against English opposition), plus the fact the are supposedly in danger of doing a pompey, make the situation very different to how it would be for us

But then for the record, we had a red shirt long before Arsenal and indeed before we ever wore white

But I voted for the third option, I'd only really like to see us change kit if it were to stop us going out of business. I'd still support the club regardless of the colour of their kit of course but I wouldn't want it changed without a real need. I would though rather see us wear red for a home kit than go out of business.

i don't like white clothes so only buy the away kit, so a change wouldn't bother me too much. NBut i can understand some feeling that we'd be losing our identity

If the changes were as drastic as Cardiff then no. They lost their entire identity in this deal. They lost the colour, the badge and probably even the name (the new investor wants to change it to 'dragons' to sell more in Asia), so is the team even still the same team anymore, really? Different name, different shirt, different logo and different motto "Fire and Passion". It feels like Cardiff as a team died, and this is a 'new start' for a new team, really.

So I guess if losing the entire team's identity (badge, colours, name) isn't a big deal to you, then it would be a great deal, but if that sort of thing would seriously bother you then going into administration or needing cash badly might be a preferable option to some of the dedicated.

Moving to another area has the same detrimental effect - eg, MK Dons/Wimbledon FC.

Identity is comprised of name, location, history and strip. All mean something.

No way. That's why I feel for Cardiff fans at the minute.

If we went Navy Tops, white shorts, I could live with it. I mean, I love the simplicity of our kit. Nice, crisp white shirt, navy shorts. Think it looks the biz. No fluff. However, a colour is just a colour. I loved the quartered shirt we had for the 125 yr anniversary. There's a striped job mooted as one of next season's kits which looks bloody nice to me.

As long as a general design was hit upon, and it wasn't a case of guess the design yr on yr, I'd actually be OK with a change I think. I love our new/old badge though, would like to keep that if poss.

As much as I am enjoying the situation (from the viewpoint of someone who hates Cardiff) - easy lot to wind up those bluebirds/dragons - I wouldn't be entirely thrilled if it was Spurs or Newport.

However, does it really, truly matter what colour kit you play in? If the choice was wear a different kit and perhaps become more successful or keep the same kit and potentially go out of business then I cannot see how you could argue for the latter.

All the Cardiff fans who are spitting out their white lighting in disgust and proclaiming never to set foot in the ground again will be back there next season. Either when they realise there's something vital missing from their lives or when they feel they're missing out on a bandwagon.
That's what us football fans are like....fickle, quick to critcise and yet oddly loyal at the same time!

So how would you feel if the cockerel was replaced with something else?

Cardiff lose the bluebird image but gain a dragon image which, as has been pointed out, is in keeping with Wales and may not be quite as dreadful as us losing the cockerel which is steeped in Spurs history and the name of Hotspur.

Imagine something other than a golden cockerel perched on top of the stand and on top of the clock outside the ground in the high Road. I hate the very idea.

The name is being changed? To what, Tunbridge Wells? So no more Cardiff City at all then. Completely new kit, badge and name?

You'll excuse me if those sort of investors scare the living snot out of me. Saving them from the brink? I dunno. Doesn't seem like they care at all for any part of CCFC club, which begs the question, why buy them? To try and rebrand them completely and get some Asian dollars. Ther'll be nothing left of that club in 10 yrs I think.

All kinds of investors out there and these ones stink of the worst kind.

If it stopped at just kit colour then probably ok.(depending on colour and logo)
But we all know it won't.
Disrespect for commercial reasons the history and tradition of the club
and further changes will inevitably follow.
Voted no because I am proud that Spurs have developed with pride
and by playing good football without iffy billionaires and selling their souls.
to the verge of success and beyond over several years.
Lets play our way to fortune and not buy our way.

Didn't we have a red kit in the late 1800s?
