What if Alan Sugar had not refused to sign Denis Bergkhamp on the basis he didn't want to waste money on another "Carlos Kickaball"?

Massive turning point in the recent histrory and relative success of Spurs and Arsenal imo.
Not just Bergkamp, it was a double deal with Aaron Winter, who would have been used to help Dennis settle, as well as being a handy midfielder.

The phrase "born to play for Spurs" has been overused but if certainly applies to Bergkhamp. The guy had Hoddle posters on his wall ffs. Makes it even more gutting that we passed up the opportunity to sign him.

Apparently Gerry Francis didn't want Bergkamp because "he's a midfielder & we need forwards" - from Sugars autobiography

What if we signed Arshavin, (I know it went all wrong at arsenal but I think he would of been great for us, especially that season 2 points from 8 games). I think we would of done really well.

Interesting. Would that be the same Gerry Francis who turned down Zidane as he was "too wooden"?:banghead:

I say we track him down and hang him by his mullet.

What if Harry Redknapp had some sense and signed Luis Suarez when he had the chance.
How can a manager not spot a player who is in the top ten in the world and is now a £50 million player?

What if Sugar had acted on his "knowledge" that tv deals were going to pump huge amounts of money into the game, rather than just mouthing off to Man Utd about it and allowing them to spend their way to being the top team for the next 10, 15, 20 years?

What if a couple of oil barons had decided to buy an F1 team each, instead of Chelsea and Man City?
