We've got the age old problem of having to choose between playing our best players and then one or two not playing in their most suited role or benching one for a player that fits better.

A midfield of: Sandro, Parker
Lennon VDV Bale

Would be hard to breakdown and also be creative down the wings and allow VDV to stay behind the striker centrally where he's most dangerous.

Dropping Modric though sounds insane so we could go back to what we did a couple of seasons ago and play one winger and Modric as a playmaker on the left.

Making a midfield of: Lennon, Sandro, Parker, Modric
VDV

But once again dropping our star winger or starting him on the right isn't preferable so we play our best player:

Sandro, Parker
Modric, VDV, Bale

If Modric and VDV gain an understanding with each other and interchange between wondering to the right and one more central and stop running into the same areas as each other then it could create something special. Whether it would work in reality remains to be seen.

It's just great to have options and the idea of dropping someone of Modric's or Bale's ability when fully-fit is pretty amazing.

a team full of starts isnt always as good as a team full of team players.....

Yes if they are fit they will be making it hard to drop, but at times you pick players who are suited to eachother and will make the team tick.

Gallas or Kaboul alongside King is the question.

Or both if we're looking to be more solid away against the better sides with Kaboul at right back with Gallas and King in the middle.

This is of course if everyone was fit, which is quite honestly hilarious. :-|

It is becoming King or Gallas beside Kaboul.

Modric, Van Der Vaart, Bale, Parker, Sandro, King and Adebayor

It's up to Harry who plays with them and how they line up

I was actually thinking of starting a similar thread, but more focused on the core of the team that we we need to keep together and build on to make a serious challenge for the league. On paper we have so many top class players, it is vital we keep hold of them. My list would be:

BAE, Kaboul, Sandro, Modric, Bale, Van Der Vaart and Adebayor

Yes you can easily add King to that list, but this is more focused on the future than present. Walker might also make it on there if he continues to improve. I only disagree with Parker since with your team Moders has to play out of position, still a vital part of our squad though.

Kaboul should be the first CB on the teamsheet, if fit King plays, then Daws/Gallas depending on form.

That is my question though, what formation is best for these players to get the best out of them .

Maybe is Sandro and Parker behind Lennon-Modric- Van De Vaart with Bale LB

Maybe its a centre midfield pairing of Modric and Parker with Sandro holding behind a front 3 of Van Der Vaart - Adebayor - Bale

One thing for certain is that its not 442

How so?

I thought we looked quite reasonable playing 4-4-2 against Liverpool don't you?
