People tend to forget how many fans wanted Burkinshaw sacked at the time not least because he'd been the assistant coach to the bastard Neill.

my first (TV) Spurs game was the 7-0 hiding at Anfield in Sept '78 when we came back up with Ossie and Ricky in the team. Thats it, i was hooked (f**k knows why!!??)
Might have been the surroundings that did it (John Lion Pub, end of Norval Rd) rather than the performance of the team!

That was my 18th birthday. Thanks Spurs...........:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

Why is it that whenever someone tries to inject some hope and positivity in here, we then get people hell bent on dragging everyone down again?

If you want to revel in your misery, do it somewhere else hey?

The 2nd division season was first season I started going regularly, I was very young but just remember Hoddle waltzing through teams ripping them apart. Didn’t we beat someone 9-0 that season I think I was there. I wish I could definitely remember the first game I went to. Sadly I do remember losing 5 to the scum and Brady amazing chip. But not sure if that was my first game hope not ?

Bristol Rovers was the 9-0, IIRC we had a spell of about four home games where we scored an absolute mountain of goals. One of them I remember was a 5-1 win against Oldham Athletic.

I think the Brady chip was after we got promoted but I could be wrong.

How did the relegation feel ? I’m always amazed reading this given it was only 13 years before I was born , and in my time remembering watching Spurs it has always been in the Premier league . I have never thought of us as even being close to relegation for the most part (some 90s and early 2000s/ 2008 here and there aside )

have Arsenal , man utd , Liverpool ever been relegated or close to relegation within the last 50 years in comparison to spurs

United went down a couple of years before us so with us it wasn't the badge of shame that it is now with the internet braggarts and bullshitters voicing their opinions despite most of them living on a continent about two thousand miles away.

We needed that reboot. It was great n the 2nd division despite going all Spursy near the end of the season and dragging it over the line in the end. The last year in the 1st division wasn't nice. It was so bad it was easier to laugh at our circumstances - there was plenty of room on the terraces to sit down and watch games from the concrete perspective.
