Where are all the Right Wing Forwards?

I just mentioned this on the Boetius thread and I'm sure people may feel differently, but with our current 4231 formation, we do seem extremely light on actual Wing Forwards.

The overlapping concept of Rose, Walker, Yedlin and even Davies at times is great, providing we have solid and mobile midfielders to drop in and cover, which we sort of do.

But the biggest issue is we need Wing Forwards who can score.

Chadli has done quite well, which is great, but he is our ONLY actual Wing Forward and I am beginning to accept that as many others pointed out, Lamela is really a no 10 not a RWF. I'm also 99% sure Townsend will never become a Wing forward, because of his lack of awareness and agility and his need to stop running in order to change direction. Townsend should be used as a left winger, in situations where we need to get the ball in the box and nick a quick goal in the last 20 minutes of a game, or if we suddenly decide to play 442 at some point.
Which probably means that Poch has been having to play him on the right, because there is no other suitable player in the squad, with Lamela injured.

I think Lamela needs to become back up to Eriksen at 10, and Kane should play at 9, given his amazing recent development as front man and we as a club desperately need to find a another LWF and a RWF or two!

Kono or Boetius on the left would be great, but who could we find for RWF? Miralles? Not sure about him.

UKIP?

It's a natural thing there's fewer top RWFs in the game. As 90% of people are right-footed, there will be 9 potential LWFs to every 1 RWF.

I'm happy with Lamela and Townsend as our RWF options, and Chadli + 1 new as our LWFs

I wondered how long the right wing references would take lol.

And yeah, I get the 10% bit too, but it's interesting how few there are and honestly in football I'm always surprised how many left footers there are.

Can you name any RWFs that spurs would look at?

He'll do. Well he's a good start. 5 goals 4 assists so far. Goals last season too. Yeah maybe. Only 21 which is useful.

From a Spurs perspective, we've had Ceballos also. I'm surprised that he's never got any game time at all for us.

I thought he lacked pace, but saying that i thought the same about kane who seems to have found an extra yard or two this season.

He isn't the quickest but he can go past players, and he's been brought up at Barca in the 4-3-3 shape and so plays as a forward and gets into the box (as opposed to the likes of Lennon/Townsend who still have wide midfielder mentalities). He's obviously never going to get a chance now, but over the last couple of seasons he couldn't have done any worse than some who have played there.

Far too selfish with the ball and was very unaware of his surroundings. From what I've seen, I'm not surprised that Poch doesn't seem to rate him, as awareness is pretty crucial to his system.

Frankly, I think we're blessed with the two inverted right wingers that we do have. Both young and have tremendous room for upside, and each are very different with what they can provide. I will say that if I had things my way I'd have gotten Thauvin instead of Lamela, and used the rest of the funds elsewhere, but that's more based on what I view as an excessive price for Lamela (felt this way at the time) rather than a slight on Lamela himself. If we can improve in central midfield such that we can afford our wingers more space and time, I think they could go on to provide us with one of the best right wing tandems in the league.

Yeah, still hopeful about Lamela. Townsend does have a knack of adding something when he comes on, but for me he's only an impact sub or second string team player. The big issue is if walker will ever learn to cross properly, which he has to for this formation to work and if lamela can start chipping in with goals as well as assists in the league..
I could see Lamela playing at 10 as Eriksen's cover / competition tbh, because we don't have a back up no 10 either.

If we sign a wide player that's versatile enough to play both sides well, then if Eriksen ' s out or rested lamela can move central.

4 versatile players for the am 3 would mean we can rotate/ cover injury without much of a drop in quality, after that you can have Townsend, Pritchard, onomah etc
