Where do you think we will finish now?

Heart says 2nd, head says 5th. We're a bit threadbare in certain positions and AVB also has his sights on the Europa league. That's a possible extra 9 games to get to the final. And last years 11 point lead evaporation still haunts me !

We haven't lost in 2 months and people still think we're gonna blow it. I know what happened last season has mentally scarred a few people but I don't think it will happen again, if anything Chelsea should be the team looking over their shoulder because their form is dreadful and look like conceding goals every time they play.

Here's the patented ButchCassidy Spurs Guide to Not Pooping Ourselves and Giving Away Champions League Football. Three simple rules:

1. No dropping points to bottom half teams. We can't be losing to Wigan and Wet Spam and expect to waltz into third place.
2. Do not lose to Arsenal. Period. A four-point gap is MASSIVELY different from a one-point gap.
3. Take at least 6 points from Chelsea, Arsenal, City, Everton.

That would leave the rest of our season at, worst case scenario:
West Ham: W
Arsenal: W
Liverpool: L
Fulham: W
Swansea: L
Everton: D
Chelsea: D
City: D
Wigan: W
Southampton: W
Stoke: L
Sunderland: W

Which leaves us at 69 points, same total we ended with last year where we were comfortably in fourth. I think everyone here would be happy with that result again (as soon as the Munich boys make up for last year's travesty by walking all over Jack Wilshere's smug little **** face), and it's not hard to see where we could even improve on this scenario vs Stoke, Swans or the Chavs. I know we're all too accustomed with the Spurs great late season collapses, but this is a new team, a new direction, and for once I'm cautiously optimistic that we're in a good place.

Hopefully we have our sights set on 2nd. Aim for second and fourth would be OK, actually very good considering all the changes. What are my hopes built on? Well they are built on a team that looks solid, with confident players who have become used to getting results. Meanwhile the teams just ahead of us are inconsistent in their performances and don't look together as a group. Finally we have that something most needed, a match winner.

What will happen? This is Spurs after all! But maybe we won't shoot ourselves in the foot this season

It'll be 4th or 5th.

Unfortunately history and the fact we haven't improved our major squad weakness - the negative me says 5th.

But its in our hands and i'll always try to be positive. The Arsenal game is just MASSIVE.

I think your last line just about sums it up. If we can get a win in that one then you have to fancy us to finish above them which is likely to be enough for 4th.

Of course the City game could be massive as well if their current form continues.

We really need to be a 12th man in our home games because that really gives the team a lift, like in the Man U game.

Need to stop booing substitutions and really give Ade some love because if he is firing, then we will get top 4.

4th. This team doesn't have it in them for a 2nd or 3rd place finish. Our form is bound to get back to earth especially because of our thin squad.

Difficult one

It depends if Bale stays fit and if Adebayor can step up for 13 matches. If those two things happen, then I think we'll get fourth

I doubt we'll get 3rd or 2nd though, because I think Chelsea and City have too much going forward
I think we can pip the scum for 4th place. I don't rate Liverpool and Everton's loss yesterday helps us too so I think the top 5 will be us, the two Manchesters and Arsenal. Catching the sides above is a lot to ask and our squad is down to the bare bones as HR used to say all the time. If we get another injury up front or if God forbid Bale gets injured then we'll be lucky to hold on to 5th place. I say take 4th and make the scum win the Champions League to deny us! It can't happen two years running surely?

Still torn between 4th and 5th.

The first time we finsihed 4th I believed we'd fall away. We had to play Arsenal, Man City and Chelsea in a row and I thought a strikeforce of Defoe and Crouch wasn't going to be enough. I was wrong.

Last season we had a tough run of games and I believed we could get some points from Arsenal and Everton away and Man Utd at home. Again I was wrong, we lost all 3 and our strong position was gone.

We have some tough games coming up and on paper Arsenal have a nicer run-in. A win at Old Trafford aside we haven't done particularly well against our competitors this season having lost to Chelsea, Arsenal and Everton.

Too hard for me to predict but as I'm usually wrong I'm going to predict we'll finish 5th.

Everton was close, and Arsenal was tainted by the red card. But those fixtures coming up will be big ones, and to be honest I think I would gladly accept drawing them all.

and against Chelsea we had no Dembele and Bale...

Wouldn't take three draws though!!, we need to beat the Scum or Everton, and not lose the other. I'll take a point at Chelsea away all day long.

I would hope for at least one win out of the Arsenal and Everton games. We are better than Everton and gave Arsenal a really good game until the sending off. Very happily take a draw off Chelsea though. 4 points plus for me.

Third or Fourth. Bale is shit hot, Holtby is excellent, Adebayor is back, Kaboul is back, Benni is back... we can do it!

Not sure I like this from Ferguson, when you consider that City, Chelsea and most pertinently Arsenal still have to play them:

When asked if he changed his mind over his starting line-up, Ferguson told Sky Sports: "Yes I did. I thought I'd make seven changes but when the City result happened yesterday I thought it would be a more important game today for us because it gives us a comfortable lead.
"We knew if we got a result today it would put us in a fantastic position. We can make changes later in the season."

Nobody seems to have mentioned the impact the Cups could have on the run in.

Man City may well turn their attentions to the FA Cup (as Mancini could well see it as a way of saving his job). They have a winnable game against Leeds which would put them in the quarter finals and mean at least one rearranged league game, and maybe more.

Chelsea have an FA Cup replay this weekend which if they win (and they should against Brentford) will mean a trip to Middlesbro for a midweek fifth round game. The sixth round is scheduled for March 9/10 so they would have to rearrange the Fulham game. The semi's are on the 13th April (when they play us, which might mean we get a break from the Everton/Chelsea/City run of matches). Looking further ahead the Final is on 11th May which is the penultimate weekend of the Premier League so they might even have to play twice the following week. They also have a winnable draw in the Europa League (Sparta Prague next round then Ajax or Steaua) which would cut down on available dates.

Arsenal also have a fair chance of progressing in the FA Cup and a huge couple of games against Bayern which will hopefully take something out of them.

And Liverpool have rather strangely rearranged their game at home to Swansea for next Sunday, after a trip to St Petersburg on Thursday. Also, if they get past St Petersburg they could well have a trip to Dnipro in the Ukraine the Thursday before we play them.

Looking at the above I think we are the least likely to be affected by rearranged league games with only Chelsea away possibly having to be moved and at least one of our rivals will be seriously inconvenienced.

Very interesting point that one. If Liverpool manage to drop points in the next few games the Europa League may be prioritised over the League as well - as any more points dropped would completely rule them out of the race for top four you would feel. That might give us a boost when we go to Anfield, if indeed they progress to the next round and field a strong side away in the Ukraine.

Great digging though mate - cheers.

TBF had Chelsea turned up, I would be right but lucked their way back:cry: and my point is still valid, technically:whistle:

So, a lawyer f*cked me, and you are trying to get off on a technicality - who'd have thought that a team that includes John Terry would lead to so much litigation :eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:;)

I'd like to think we'd finish 4th but I think we are too reliant on others scoring instead of our strikers.Levy could really the rue the day he closed his wallet in January.
