Five clubs have a realistic chance of filling the Champions League qualification spots....

Read the full article at The Guardian

With a big round of PL games starting tonight, there's a need to get back to winning ways and generally threaten the opponent's goal a bit more than we have been in the last 5-6 matches. I think Poch needs to figure out the three behind the striker, because Kane can't do it all himself and they're not doing enough, consistently enough.

The next seven games provide us with a real chance to put pressure on the 3rd/4th pacesetters. We'd probably be favorites in six of them - the current bottom four, Swansea, and Newcastle. And if we could repeat the recent heroics at Old Trafford, or at least not lose, you'd have to think the Champions League spots might be available to us for the run in.

Totally agree, got some really hard games coming up, hardest run out of the group.
Arse third with either us or Liverpool stealing fourth from them!

They're in a false position because they got an incredibly fortunate run of fixtures to the start of the season although it didn't help them much.

They've got a really tough run in. Still to play:
Spurs
Liverpool
City
Chelsea
Everton (away)
Arsenal

Arsenal have the easiest of run ins and will make top 3, they might even pinch 2nd

Chelski
MCity
Liverpool
Arseholes
..............
Manure
Spurs
Southampton

Man u playin shit but keep winning.
Can that continue? Hope not but wouldn't surprise me.
Imo Liverpool are playing better than anyone. If that continues they def make top 4.
To be fair everyone has been slipping up all over the place so think it'll be a case of who fks up least. Sounds obvious but you know what I mean.
Just cant see us doing it as 3wins on the bounce is our limit.
Under Harry was one of those rare occasions when we managed to break that limit and just don't seem to be able to get past it no matter who we're playing or where.
Not expecting top 4, wasn't expecting top 4, so won't be disappointed when we xont get top 4.
Will be disappointed if we get Europa league again. Realise some will disagree but imo its a fkin nightmare, a hindrance and even with a CL spot, unless your going say fk the other cups we'll never win it.
We simply do not have the resources to fight on 4 fronts and rather than go half arsed, neither full strength or trying youth, we need to pick what we want and go for it.
I feel Poch dropped a clanger this season as far as that goes (see Fiorentina selection both legs, WHam selection then Cup Final selection).
Prob not the most popular view, certainly not on here anyway, but its mine

Edit. Not saying Poch got team selection wrong in cup final. I think that was our best line up. Just saying if Poch thinks that as well then I would have expected to see it feature in one of those other 3 important games.

Top 4: Chelsea, City, United, Arsenal
5th: Liverpool
6th: Spurs/Saints
7th: Spurs/Sains

Yes, that is a sensible prediction. Liverpool might even leapfrog United into fourth if their current form (and luck) continues.
We'd do well to finish 6th given how young a side we are. Finishing lower than 6th might seem slightly disappointing, but once again I find myself thinking that missing out on the EL for a season could be just what we need to challenge the current top four teams next term.

I remember, during Big Martin Jol's second season, we achieved 5 league wins in a row, along with a couple of cup wins in that mix. I don't think it had happened in my Spurs following life before then (and suffice to say, I'm not a teenager). It was a mark of someone who not only spoke about winning mentality, but delivered on it - at least by that small but significant metric. Harry's run for some ridiculous spell of a season was outstanding too.

And I think you're spot on - going on that type of 5-6 game winning streak is the mark of a manager/team that has the wherewithal to take us where we want to be.

Poch's side has had a couple of 3-game winning streaks this season. Hopefully we're about to embark on another or better.

But a CL place means you have to play in midweek too. Each to their own onions, but that seems like a logical failure in that argument - and one that can be overcome by a winner's attitude. You're basically saying the Europa isn't worth the effort, but the CL is worth the same effort!

And the effect (on the following season) of winning the EL is the same as the CL - entry to the CL.

I wonder if there's just something psychologically worse with playing Thursday and Sunday instead of Wednesday and Saturday. Don't know whether it's to do with the 'old' day of rest but my memory of Sundays is of tedium, aimlessness and eternal rain. Nothing to get excited about. A day of passivity and restriction. Of resentment at the fast approaching Monday (another bloody awful day!). School days or workdays the same. Wednesday is and was the point at which the back of the traditional five-day working week is finally broken. The glorious tipping at the fulcrum. What an act of heroism to have got that far! Three days down and you can sniff the horizon and its possibilities. Who wouldn't play the best football then?!
(Probably just me and nothing in it for anyone else though...!)

Whilst your reasoning is right before Christmas CL and EL have the same number of games in the group stages, there is one more round in the EL after the group stages and at a stage in the season where injuries usually start to take their toll. We have been lucky with injuries this season, but as regards the strength of the squad we are not yet ready for the CL. We need a really good summer to get rid of quite a few players and get them replaced by a mix of top quality, including at least one striker, and the best of the academy players.

I think we need to concentrate on actually getting in the CL FIRST and doing everything possible to give us the best chance of doing that.
Playing loads more games all over Europe and playing catch up every Sunday doesn't help. I don't think thats really up for debate is it?
Edit. Playing CL on a Tues/ Wed then PL on Sat or Sun is an extra days rest over Thur to Sun.
I worked it out lol.
