Why do you support Spurs?

My great granddad had a leather shop on tottenham high road and they made and repaired their footballs, they might have even made the 1901 FA cup final ball (but I can't verify that bit!). My granddad got original shares in the club (1 of 5000, they're worth a lot less now, 1000 shares in total), those shares were handed down to my dad, who was still born in north london. And those shares have been handed down to me and my bro, who were the first born south of the river.

Cue a cool story bro response.

When I was 6 1/2 I was on the school bus. Everyone started signing they were United fans and I went home and proudly told my dad. He told me to fuck off and that I would support spurs and that we were playing in a cup final at the weekend (1991 FA Cup) so I watched the game and wrong believed being a spurs fan meant lots of trophies.

Cos I am ******* mental and too old to change now.

This 100%.
I really do wish that I didn't care,I wish defeats didn't bother me and I wish I had more sense than to support Spurs..............but I don't have more sense, results still affect my day to day life and I simply can't stop.
I am a idiot and an addict.

Because I have for 24 years since I was 9. Thorstvedt, Gazza, Lineker, Mabbut, right? I was the only kid at school who didn't change affiliation to Leeds, Newcastle or ManUtd depending on the league winner.

As a child, it was a straight choice between two different team strips - Chelsea or Spurs - in the FA cup final in 67. Greaves was playing, I'm pretty sure, and was a big name, Gilzean, Jennings, Saul, Robertson and tough bastard Mackay and so on. Chelsea had chopper Ron, Tambling and Bonetti (exotic name!) etc. We had heard of these players already and pretended to be them in games at break time. I think most of my friends wanted Chelsea to win so that helped to decide it. I wrote all the names on the inside of my folder, and drew the crest.

In 1946, or 47, or something, a tubby little Welsh lad, recently de-mobbed from the Royal Navy, had nowhere to go and stay, so found his twin brother (medically discharged from the Army before firing a shot) living in North East London, and hanging out with some decidedly dodgy characters.

Said Welsh lad found digs in Stoke Newington, got a job, and was tricked into going to see The Lillywhites play at home by some drinking pals.

He pretty much went to every game after that, up to the late 60's. And still regular after that time.

In November 1966, he took his son (that'll be me), aged just 5, to his first game at WHL. (We lost to the bloody Whammers).

And I've been lumbered with the curse ever since.

And now my two lads have the same disease, and hopefully, so it will progress.

It's in the blood now.

My Grandad went to watch Spurs play, loved watching Pat Jennings in goal, and started supporting the team. My granny also loved to watch Ardiles play and even named her dog after him. They Passed that on to my dad and uncles and aunts, and down to me, my cousins. We all support Spurs. It's a family thing. So we're all blessed with the joy that is Spurs..... And all watch Spurs together whenever we can. I now have a 1 year old who watches Spurs with me but she doesn't know what's going on, she just looks at me when I shout at the television.

Don't know in all honesty, although he was from Bucks my old man supported wolves...
He was on duty for the 81 final and replay and got programmes so maybe that was the trigger?
Still doesn't explain why I've got programmes from the late 70's though, I'm just as confused as everyone else as to how I ended up here....

This is plain scary! I remember the '67 cup final. I was sent to friends house that night because my granddad was seriously ill with lung cancer (he passed that night), and said friend was all Chelsea. My entire family on my dad's side were, and are Tottenham - uncles, aunts, cousins, their kids, my daughter, and brothers. I always wanted a Spurs shirt, but never got a real one, so I cut out a black cockerel and sowed it onto a long sleeved white shirt I had. Unfortunately there was some red on it from where I constantly pricked my fingers while trying to sow the badge on!

There is no other team, period!
