I just thought I would post our biggest signings. Splashed cash does not always equal a nailed on starter. Let alone marquee player.

This isn't a criticism of you, but those (cond.) bits make the fees almost meaningless.

We paid 5 mill for Bale. That could rise to 10, but I for one have no idea what those conditions are. If it's based on appearances then I'm sure it will, but if it's based on winning the CL, FA Cup and Prem in one season then it probably won't.

I'm sure the truth is somewhere in between, but my point is that those 'conditional' bits just contain too many variables to make any sort of proper assessment.

I'd take it a step further and say basic transfer are never the actual amount. It is a case of payments over a period of time. When it came to the Portsmouth transfers, they owed us so much we ended up getting some players back as payment and we threw them a few beans in return.

Do the accounts shed any more light do you think?

Where'd you get the figures from Gibbsy?
Some look OK but surely we haven't paid a cool £7m for Naughton?!
I'd question the Pompey boys too as I'm sure that there was a little bit of 'Arry & Dan wangling and taking advantage of Pompey's financial predicament in those deals. Didn't they still owe us from the Mendes & co deal?

I thought Darren bent was conditional as well and that we only spent £12m in real terms?

It is looking less likely by the day that we'll get a top notch striker because of the ridiculous prices and wages demanded.
This is not necessarily a bad thing as this WC has shown that there should be a really hard rethinking of how the game should be run as it is obvious that high finances are ruining the game as a spectacle; and I'll not be surprised that spending caps will soon be introduced to force teams back to reality.

Yep. You will be glad to know there are already new rules that will go into effect in the future that limits mega spending clubs/massive squads.

The stock exchange announcement should say.

There, almost certainly less than £15 million.

We'll get someone. Probably not while the World Cup is going on. Doubt the shake-out has even begun.

Did we not pay off Southampton early? I'm sure when they were struggling with administration we paid £2m early (ontop of the upfron £5m) to finalise the financial terms of the Bale transfer.

All these notes about actual price we paid are moot.

My point is, our very best players that pulled on the Spurs shirt: We didn't pay an arm and a leg for. Berb, Carrick, Lennon, Davids, Ginola, Klinn etc etc were cheap for what they did for us.

We HAVE great players. More of them have to have a marquee season, rather than chasing one expensive signing that can get injured, homesick, boozy, flakey and a 100 other things that can rattle modern footballers.

Not sure about £7m for Naughton and Chalky was 7m not 8m but generally they're about right.

Bale cost us £7m in total. It was supposed to be 5+5 but Levy settled the extras for £2m cash when it emerged that Southampton were near administration.

Another great bit of business. Worth more like £20m now

Dzeko or Aguero would be my top choices when talking about strikers that have at least some chance of actually coming to Spurs and would cost anything from 25m up to 40m I presume.

If Ibrahimovich became available I would take him of course but feel for what Barca paid they will keep him due to having to take a loss if they sold him this season. Unless City came along of course.

Can't see anyone in the prem getting Torres, except Chelsea but it's a nice thought :)

Fuck me, are you being serious? I think you've missed 1 or 2 we have a better history pre prem league than since it started, ever heard of Hoddle, Gazza, Lineker, Greaves, Ardiles, Waddle, Blanchflower, White and many many more? I get your point but a bad choice of words, and where the fuck is King in that list? Carrick or Gazza? Thats a tough choice lol.

Great players? Who's gonna go down in history as great out of our current squad? I suppose it depends on what your barometer of great is. We've some very good players but none of them have proved themselves as great yet, most of them have never even played in the Champs league yet, let alone excelled in the elite competion in club football or International football

Well to us yes. In this era of Man City plucking figures out of the air in trying to compete with Barca, Real and Chelsea (Aguero £45m ? Do me a favour) then it's whatever the buyer will pay.

But if shoe was on other foot and it was a youngster who'd had an outstanding 6 months in La Liga but had only a handful of games before we'd probably think his club were being outrageous.

Anyway, pleased that Harry finally read my posts on here and played him (and in his best position LW) :)
