Technically I’m impressed by how good Saudi Arabia are, they pretty much controlled the first half, were comfortable on the ball and knocked it around nicely, they are just a bit one dimensional in their style and tactically a bit naive.

I was just noticing that. Their passing and control is rather impressive.

The state of this World cup, majority of matches have been shite.

Disagree. I’ve enjoyed most days so far. I don’t expect every game to be an intense thriller, and they haven’t, but very few of the games have been totally one sided in nature or lacking in something to keep me interested. We’ve already had some surprise results. VAR’s proving it can work.

I think it’s been a very good first few days

I'd agree. We've only had two matches won by 3 or more goals. One was the crazy opener and the other was a Panama team who are probably the 5th best team in CONCACAF but managed to finish 3rd.

For me the quality of football has been poor and the big teams haven't turned up yet (Brazil, Germany, Argentina, France) even Portugal and Belgium have been disappointing, so far I'm not impressed.

This World Cup hasn't been great but it's far from the worst tournament in recent years. We've had a few upsets, the Spain Portugal game was one of the best World Cup matches in recent memory, and there haven't been any complete washout 0-0s (though the Sweden Korea game deserved to be).

Most other tournaments kinda blur together for me, but I seem to recall a few featuring horribly negative teams with no invention whatsoever. I don't think that's been the issue here. The problem seems to be a general lack of quality with most of the top and middling teams under performing. France, Brazil, Argentina, Germany, Poland, Uruguay and even Belgium and Portugal, have been varying degrees of disappointing. Surely they can't all continue to be that shit, can they?

Uruguay have been so poor. No fluidity and nobody taking charge and getting the ball quickly forward.

Captaining Cavani on fantasy was a good move, wasn't it.

He's been their best attacker but has had to drift wide and back and do everything by himself far too often.

That’s the point though, so called big teams haven’t been allowed to just turn up and stroll it, because the general technical and tactical standard has improved.

The Germany/Mexico game was also a great game and contrast in tactical culture.

Look at how well Saudi - possibly the lowest ranked team there - have played against Uruguay - many peoples dark horse to win it.

This is bad but World Cup 2010 lives in the memory of just being horrible, nothing will ever come close to that.
