Kim Jong Il won't be telling the North Koreans about any football related events happening next year then.

I bet he does. According to him, N. Korea have won every event they ever took part in. How can his people deny what they're told?

You my laugh my capitalist friends but you will not be laughing come the final whistle when my communist brothers from the great Democratic Peoples Republic of Korea proudly hoist the trophy high in the air and celebrate a magnificent and historical triumph.

Under-estimate us at your peril, for we shall be taking the trophy back to parade it for our countrymen and then to smite those of you who worship at the temples of capitalism, we shall melt down the trophy and make a lovely bracelet for the Dear Leader!

Hurrah!

Lanh I would be surprised if your giant of a leader already has a replica trophy to parade N Korea's glorious WC victory.

Why ever would he do that? Vietnam are not in the World Cup.

If you're talking about the leader of my brave Communist brothers across the water, (well along, round, up a bit and on the right), then they have no need for the brave comrades will triumph and be parading the REAL World Cup proudly in Pyongyang!

Very happy with our group! If we dont win that group then we dont deserve to go through!

Well said; I see some earlier posts were hoping to avoid USA of all people.
I can see nothing but maximum points from that group.

You just know England will struggle in the opening game, as ever! It's a kind draw on us and we need to breeze through the group to build confidence in ourselves to stand us in good stead for the knockout. Unfortunately I have a feeling we're going to struggle, even if we do claim all 9 points and the quarter finals, maybe a semi are still our level. We don't have enough technical quality to win a world cup, unfortunately.

"Us" is the worldwide Communist brotherhood mate.

As the only Communist nation participating in South Africa, I'm throwing my weight behind the mighty North Korea!

I really dont like our group. Very underwhelmed by it. But i'm sure i'll be excited nearer the time, just because its the World Cup. I would have liked some more exciting opponents though. The Brazil group is the only one i like the look of. But i'm sure it will be full of surprises and some glorious football nonetheless.

Provided Rooney doesn't get eaten be a local lion mistaking him for a hippo before the first game, and Don Fabio plays JD and Azza, I think we have no problems getting through to the QFs.

I see no reason why Defoe shoudn't start up front in those games. We dont need Heskey to lump the ball up to. If we cant play good football in those games i give up.

It's the second round that worries me. Germany starting slow could easily finish second and even if they win the group Ghana are very dangerous, Serbia solid and defensively more than able to stifle us, and the Aussies are underrated and will be so up for it it'll be untrue.

The only danger in the group is the fourth challenger... complacency. Mind you, they've done very well against us down the years.

USA will be tough. But otherwise n easy draw. But Slovenia and Algeria are games are so uninspiring. But hopefully we can get through the group in 2nd gear and then improve in the knockout stages.

Algeria should not be underated, it is in africa. If the USA play like they have been in the last 8 months it shouldn't be much of a challange

I don't like the look of the knockouts either. If we get Ghana at least I wouldn't expect that to go all the way, but if we play Serbia or Germany, then that is almost guaranteed pens. Against the Germans, that's always bad. This year the prospect terrifies me. As noted by this football blogger on World Cup prospects, 3 players you'd expect to feature missed at the weekend. It leaves me wondering who our top 5 takers would be. I don't trust Lampard anymore, Defoe really ought to put his away (if he gets picked), Gerrard is fairly reliable, and you'd hope Rooney would score, but aside from that I'm at a bit of a loss.

The only consolation is Ballack has missed one this season too!

the yanks wont be that tough. and their strikers altidore, chung, macbride, dempsey, whoever plays up front shouldnt trouble the England back 4 too much. The difference is Capello is a winner, he will be extremly well prepared.

Defoes pace will give the likes of Carlos Bocanegra fits

spain and Brazil are by far the best 2 teams however
