Worst Arsenal team ever?

I hear this phrase banded about regularly by Arsenal fans (and I'm sure you do to) as if to say that their worst is better than our best. I'd just like to give everyone a bit of ammo for when they hear this phrase. In the last 8 years, Arsenal have only gained more than 73 points on 1 occasion. So far from this being their worst side, this is actually pretty much their best.

Yea but in terms of performance it was since wenger joined and the bottom 13 have less points than usual hence the top 7 having more, e.g. the difference between Sunderland who nearly got relegated and WBA who had a great season finishing 8th was 10 points which hasnt happened before iirc.

I laugh when they say this is our best. We haven't even begun to get serious yet.

This is what Wenger said about his team after they won at Newcastle:

"They are special. I’ve told them many times but they’ve shown it in the last two months they’ve been absolutely exceptional".


Now, whether he actually believes this to be the truth or maybe he's just bluffing I don't know, but I'd be quite happy if he backed their current squad for next season without too many additions. Granted, they had a terrific run-in at the end but for much of the time they stumbled along and were a shadow of previous Ar*enal teams. Man for man I'd still take the nucleus of our squad over theirs.
