Why would Levy take the joint second highest transfer fee paid by an English club for a player who has effectively had one good season, or arguably two thirds of a season?

Levy knows about maximising value when it comes to selling players.

And we have a £450m development to pay for, so any notion we don't need the money is naive.

Your right of course the club will always need the money but we also need the right players. Kane this season has been the symbol of what we're trying to achieve as a club in our battle for glory and to sell him now would be negative and not setting a good example for others coming through . We'd be viewed as a feeder club

50m wouldnt even scratch the surface after you've bought a replacement. Also, "maximising value" is not selling a player at 22 when he's only going to get better.

As we have seen previously, having £80m in the bank doesn't mean we can go and buy CL quality signings, Lloris is probably our most consistent player who was playing CL.
It's not the amount it's how we reinvest it, and we simply wouldn't get players in that were better than Harry.
I wouldn't sell him.

What would be the point? Might as well shut up shop if we start selling home grown talents after their first season with us when they don't even want to leave.

Actually I'm saying it now, if we sell Harry Kane this summer I'm done with Spurs.

No def not, we have loads of crap we can sell and raise 80 mill who don't care about spurs, prefer to promote the youth who care about the shirt and buy 2-3 quality players.

Of course he would be sold if 80M was offered. Denying that is only possible if one doesn't quite fathom how much money 80M is.

I find it strange with some supporters fixation on money and transfer fees.

We get lucrative money from participating in the premier league, why do we need another 80m?

Our experience of the Bale sale has shown me that its nothing to do with how much money there is to spend.

Whats the difference between 8m worth of dross and 80m worth of dross?

Its all relative, there are only so many players to go around.

Its all about having a set-up for clever, wise player recruitment.

We are moving to a new stadium that is meant to increase our club power and here some our contemplating selling a home grown player for what?

Would I? Yes. More pertinently would Levy? Absolutely he would. I suspect it will take a lot less than £80m for us to part with Harry Kane. £50m would be my guess.
Wouldn't sell him for a billion...fuck money, I'll take a cult hero everyday...I tend to support my club as if I was an 11 year old, best way to do it imo

Seriously, I think football manager games have done us a massive disservice. As fans, we shouldn't worry about balancing books, net spend, or profit. We should concern ourselves only with keeping our best players and acquiring better players than the ones we have.

We should be trying to win football trophies not best accounts awards.

We should be striving to win competitions not merely qualify for them (fourth place devoutees: I'M TALKING TO YOU!)

If that means we say no to 500m, or have to spend 10bn: I don't care. I want to see the best players compete in our colours, in our stadium, winning trophies so I can walk around with a shit eating grin on my face.

Said Irving Scholar, before Liverpool fans trampled a load of people and ruined things for English football.

Snatcho, hando, offo..................

Again though what's the point? So we can win the best bank balance award? We couldn't use the money to attract any other players who would score 30 goals a season and we aren't going to go bust without it.

Totally agree. I think Kane is still just an excellent prospect, but certainly not a superstar in the Bale territory. Even at £50M I would sell. Particularly if we get Hernandez or Januzaj + £50M.
Im glad you are not running the club!

No point if we can't attract better players to replace him with or improve the side etc

Also, regarding this £450m redevelopment we have to fund...I'm pretty sure we have already funded a huge chunk of it! It's £450m from the point where discussions about plans being drawn up. Come a long, long way since then. Probably closer to a £250m left to get it finished
