Wrexham-Sheffield United was the most followed soccer game by users across all of ESPN’s digital platforms, including ESPN.com and the ESPN App, according to an ESPN spokesperson.

Other soccer games on the day included: Brighton versus Liverpool (FA Cup), Real Madrid against Real Sociedad (LaLiga), PSG-Reims (Ligue 1), Napoli-Roma (Serie A) and Bayer Leverkusen versus Borussia Dortmund (Bundesliga).

Charisma doping.

These two have elevated the profile of a non-league club in the US & Canada further than any multi-million pound advertising campaign with MSNBC ever did for us :D
had dinner last with a couple and when asked who their favorite team was, well you can guess it

Paul Mullin is an absolute joke
Wonder what level he could play at?

Looking at his Wiki he seemed to be pretty average and was more of a 1 in 4 goalscorer until he turned about 25 and then absolutely exploded at Cambridge United and now Wrexham.

He's clearly absolutely miles too good for the Conference, but is he simply a League 1 or 2 striker playing below his level, or could be a Jamie Vardy type that is genuinely top quality and took a long time to get going?

Probably not got the strength or pace to play at the very top but I'd say he's upper League 1/lower Championship quality at least? Some of his finishes this season have been absolutely nuts.

Agree he’s definitely league 1 quality and I wouldn’t be surprised if he could handle the championship

Wonder how long this party will go on for.

Seriously though I obviously don't want Spurs to go down but these are the sorts of scenes we're never going to get unless we win the PL. The elation of promotion is something else.

I hope Notts County win the playoff. They had too good a season to not move up.
Mental that Notts County's current points tally (still with a game to play) would've broken the record for the highest ever points tally in the National League...

...if Wrexham hadn't already broken that record this season.

Shows the power of competition, though. Surely neither team reaches such heights without the other pushing them to the very brink.

After watching Its always Sunny for the past 15 years and knowing the batshit (but hilarious) stuff he writes and acts in, its so weird to see Rob McElhenney crying as he takes Wrexham up a league. Awesome though

I've not really been following this - did they pump loads of cash into the club or is it more about a wave of excitement pushing them on?

Maybe I’m imagining it, but I think there have been several teams over the past 20 years who have gone straight up from the National League (it’ll always be the Conference to me) to League One, because there is very little difference in standard between League Two and the top 7/8 teams in the Conference.

I’d be pretty shocked if they didn’t at least make the playoffs next season. League One is where they will find it much harder.

Edit: There’s every chance Stockport (last year’s N/L champions) do exactly this).

A mix of the two. They have effectively been operating on a top-end League Two budget since the takeover. They’ve got a number of players who are quite clearly League Two or even League One standard, and a better manager than you’d normally find at that level.

But simply by giving Wrexham fans hope for the first time in a long time they’ve been able to generate one of the best atmospheres in the lower leagues and that’s helped the team along too.

Both, definitely.

In addition to tommo's reply to you they've also brought the stadium back into club ownership after it had been sold to an absolute crook of a former owner way back when, and they've ploughed a lot of money into upgrading it already. Hence why the end Mullin scored his goal in yesterday is a literal building site.

So far they've done almost everything right from a business case and fan connection standpoint. We'll see how long they can manage to do that in higher tiers.

If you watch the first few episodes on Disney or the first season you can see what they did. They were very smart with their decision making.

Key things i noticed from the first few episodes.

1) They got in a director of football (Shaun Harvey) as they knew they had no clue about football. The director is still there.

2) That director of football them scouted out a manager that had a good record for promotion and asked him to take a step down in his career to which he did. That manager had a difficult first season but they backed him and he is still there.

3) They paid good money to buy Mullins (striker) who like the director of football and the manager, decided to take a step down in his career. Scored shit load of goals but again had a tricky start but backed him.

Obviously what the above shows is that you need money to succeed; however, what is more important is to employ people that are the best in class or the best available at that level and let them run the football side, not to interfere and to be paitent.

Some clubs at the top level can learn from this. I wonder who 🤷‍♂️

edit: To be fair to Spurs, we have tried to follow the above decision making process but the interfering by non-football people into football matters has affected us, as well as, wrong choice of managers. Hopefully Scott Munn will sort this out. Everton and Chelsea though need to take note.

They've actually been pretty astute and done most of it organically.

According to last seasons accounts they posted a loss of £3m, but if I'm reading it right £1m of that was buying the ground back.

What they have done is been able to fill their stadium week in, week out and leveraged sponsorship due to the the Disney+ series and owners stature, particularly in the US.

They took an approach of rather than just writing cheques, of building links with the community and the fans - they really seem to have an affinity with the people of Wrexham and that feeds into every aspect of the club and their finances.

There is plenty of jealousy from other fans, but I don't think the 'financial doping' claims are fair, especially when compared to other leagues.

They seem to have done a very, very good job and full credit to them for doing so.
