I'm still wondering why we never hear much about his fellow countryman and wing counterpart (for Ukraine) Andriy Yarmolenko, who I actually like better.

Yarmolenko is a stud (and his contract expires next summer), but he is an inverted RW at Dynamo Kyiv (even though he can/does play either flank for Ukraine NT), and we already have at least 3 players who can do the job there.
LW/LWF is more of a dire need, IMHO (after the back 4). Which is probably why we're linked with so few (if any) RW's in general.
Just a thought anyway. ;)

PS. BTW, I dig Yarmolenko, but prefer Kono (regardless of wing position). Plus, Kono can be acquired for a lesser £ amount (and he is two-footed to boot). (y)

Yeah, he plays inverted now, but two years ago he was playing LW/LWF/F so I have no worries about him fitting the role we need - he's very flexible. So he fits the need for LW as well as anyone.

Yarmolenko is also fairly two footed himself. Not so much as Kono, but I wouldn't say his right foot is a weakness.

As for rice I have no idea, as I said I never hear much about him in regards to transfers. Plus while Kono's release fee is cheap apparently what he's asking for a contract is not.

Yes, as I've mentioned Yarmolenko can play either flank, and his right foot is not particularly vulnerable ((but he does favor the left foot)).
I believe Kono is better equipped to handle the rigors of the EPL. He is more direct and dynamic in attack, while Yarmolenko's approach is a bit more nonchalant (in a way).
Overall I think Kono would be more suitable for Spurs (even on a bad day, he looks like he's playing his arse off...and that will go a long way to please our fan base). I guess he's just more of a complete (old-school) winger so to speak.
I suppose at the end of the day it's a toss-up, but I give a slight edge to Kono.

Bottom line for me: I'll take either. (y)

Exactly.
Ultimately (if we could afford it, and had requisite space on the roster), I'd even take both. They would complement each other very well IMO.
Kono is more a classical creative winger, whereas Yarmo is a bit more of a forward even, and can put goals away at a higher rate. Pick your poison, I suppose. lol

Jjetset has said Konoplyanka isn't even really being considered, which is incredibly disappointing. Would be perfect for us and a massive upgrade while not being very expensive at all.

Things could possibly change quickly should we be really interested in Depay and he decides that he won't join us.

What do you think of Depay? Personally I haven't been impressed, very overrated from what I've seen. 2 goals at the WC, one off a massive keeping blunder, and one tap in from a yard that Robben created...When he got his start in the Costa Rica game he was fairly anonymous despite the Dutch having most of the ball. Admittedly I haven't seen much of him at club level.

Good. Someone needs to point out their fans' strong racist history to Dnipro's Jewish owner, if they haven't already.

How many Russians/Ukrainians have made it in England? Rebrov pav shevchenko ( sp) came with a better reputations and failed. Would be a massive risk IMO

Wondering how the current Ukraine/Russia situation will affect the native players there -- I'd guess most foreign players would probably want to move on (i.e. Bernard); but it could be either way for the Ukrainians in the league, like feeling an obligation to stay, and a move away would be considered to take the easy way out and be despised by their fellow countryman sort of thing?

Konoplyanka has torn England apart with Ukraine and shone in almost every Europa League appearance vs top teams.

While he didn't quite "tear England apart," he did do quite well against them, and notably against our own RB.

Rebrov and Shevchenko shone big time in CL and failed in england.
He hardley torn england apart and Naughton kept him reasonable quite in the 2 games we played against him
