The thing is though they rotate excellently whereas we seem to just have a first team that we have to patch up with subs when key players aren't fit.

Giggs generally operates in the middle nowadays and Park plays everywhere, but you're right they do indeed have good options out wide and I guarantee they will all each get games and all chip in and play their part. It's the way they are run.

yeah exactly and especially with Scholes retiring you can bet Giggsy will be playing in the middle most of the time now when he plays, reckon it will be his last season

It makes perfect sense to me as Young can play left, right or through the middle

Villa could be gearing up for a fun season. Their best players leaving and a manager who is still to buy one single effective attacking player.

THe said 31 Million on the radio this morning. I guess that includes wages for the contract period?

I think Young has the potential to be top class. People saying he's inconsistent should take a look at the stats, he has pretty consistent assists and goals for the last few years.

I think this is a good move for both teams. Downing and the young fella (Albrighson- or something like that) will be fine down the wings. Villa reduce their wage bill, united get a good player.

and bentley on the wing to replace young

I suggested this yesterday, but someone correctly pointed out that this is unlikely after McCleish's experiences with DB2 last year...

ahh makes more sense now

they need wingers and we have a Bentley with 4 flats lol

the Scot and him didn't get along well last season though did they

Real_madyidd beat me to it - they have Marc Albrighton waiting in the wings (sic) who's looking pretty decent who is primarily a right-winger.

And then if they keep hold of him they have Stewart Downing for the left they're okay in the wide areas.

In fact, Villa have a pretty decent squad and massively under-achieved last season.

Their current back-up keeper, Brad Guzan is also pretty decent and a more then able replacement for Brad Friedal.

Going back to Ashley Young, it's a good deal in terms of the national team and good to see England's top team signing top English talent really.

I'm quite happy with Lennon so not really space for him at Spurs IMO in terms of our rivals getting stronger, if Spurs are going to compete I'd rather we beat the top teams when they're strong rather than because they've been weakened.

yeah forgot about Albrighton he looks a decent prospect but I reckon Downings off to the scousers but Bentley to Villa most definately won't happen I was only joking really

one things for sure they'll have money to spend you'd think after the Young and Downing deals unless Lerner pockets it all

This one reminds me of the Carrick signing.

Ferguson tried a foreign play-maker, in Veron, it didn't work out so he turned to the best English one (5 titles and 3 CL finals later I think he was probably right).

He's now tried Nani at LW (who cost 25million euros) but he's still not quite up to it. So now it's back to tried and tested English, Premier proven and the best current one is Young.

It's also a sad indictment of England managers. They have been trying to shoehorn Lampard, Gerrard and Barry into the team for the last few years yet the top manager in the country prefers Carrick and Young in his midfield.

And whilst I would agree with earlier posts that English players are overrated, the ones Ferguson chooses to buy rarely are.

Great signing for United I think.

Young is one of those players who I find rarely produces nothing. He's either releasing an on-running fullback, shifting onto his right foot and whipping a pacey ball in, or cutting in and having a shot, I think he's a good player.

I think almost any signing United make is going to help them greatly, because they are already a very good team.

fantastic player but utd still haven't strengthened in cm which is where they lost the champions league final. If they don't strengthen there then I don't see them beating barcelona any time soon..
