Rose and BA-E should compete for the first team spot next season; if we get Champion's League there should be enough big games to justify some rotation, and Rose, as a utility player who can cover LW and CM, should get plenty of sub appearances when he is not starting. Besides, there is always the possibility that one of them might spend half the season injured...

I agree with you Eddie. My only concern about Rose is that he seems to need a run of games to really perform. When he came into the side in 2010-11 he played very well but wasn't so good when he came in for games here and there last season. This season again he's done very well for Sunderland having played week in week out (until his recent injury).

Would love the club to televise all youth games...........I know so little about these young players.

Agree with Townsend, Rose coming in.

BAE could well be on his way, judging by his mood at Liverpool......

I like the system of getting our young players to prove themselves at different clubs before getting a chance in our first team. We've got a very good team at the moment so it's becoming increasingly difficult for young players to get in.

But if we implement them into the 1st team squad at the right time then it can be done.

Walker needed a season in the Prem with Villa to get up to level. He still has some work to do to get to international level but he is a worthy 1st team player.

Out of our youngsters I'd say Rose and Townsend look the most ready to compete at our level and hopefully Carroll can be used more next season.

I've heard good things about Smith but guess Walker and Naughton are ahead of him in the pecking order. Hopefully several of the others mentionned can have a loan period next season at Championship or Prem clubs.

Which players from U21 (maybe even U19) could join first team and compete for starting eleven next year?

  • Fryers could be long-term replacement for BAE so I would join him to first squad next year
  • Pritchard could become "new Bale" so definitely YES.. sub for Dembele
  • Obika can't do worse than Ade and Defoe this season so WHY NOT
  • Townsend..?
What do you think?
I think you're tripping. Particularly re Obika.

He has never said he wants to leave us but has said many times he wants to go on loan which is fair enough tbh, this winter he did say he was happy up there and didnt want to come back as cover for BAE

Andros Townsend and Ryan Mason were the two who used to stand out to me. Both good footballers.

Hope they both come into our 1st team squad.

Danny Rose too looks promising.

I will happily 'beast' Jon Bostock into the player he should be if Daniel will give me a wage! :)

Can someone less lazy than me highlight the players we have under contract next season, but not actually in our squad this season, that will need to be assimilated, loaned or sold? In other words, those who are either over-21 and out on loan, or who will become over-21s before next season's squad has to be announced.

How refreshing is it to actually be having this discussion? Talking about a fair number of homegrown Tottenham talent actually being of use to us on the pitch! Very promising indeed.

______________ Players likely to be a part of our first team next year ______________

22 - Rose - Should provide competition for BAE, if he's still at the club next year...
21 - Townsend - Could even become a starter for us next year if he continues his current form at QPR.
21 - Smith - Could challenge Walker and Naughton for the starting RB position. Possible PL loan.
20 - Carroll - Will retain his place in the squad. Hoping he gets a good loan to a PL side.

______________ Players on the fringe ______________

23 - Livermore - Could possibly get a PL loan next year. Otherwise, makes for a decent 4th choice CM...
23 - Falque - Shows great potential but could possibly stay in Spain next year. Has been Almeria's standout player since he joined and seems to be enjoying his time in Espana.
21 - Mason - Loaning him to Lorient is turning out to be a horrible mistake. Hopefully he can get a good loan next year and still have a chance with our first team. Would be a shame if he didn't make the PL level as he's been one of our most promising youngsters for years.
21 - Parrett - Reportedly on his way to Swindon Town on loan; League One club, kind of a step-back for him... Has been a standout for our U21s this year, and I'm hoping he gets a fair chance to prove he can handle the PL.

______________ players to be loaned or most likely sold this summer ______________

26 - Khumalo - Hes starting almost every match for PAOK at the moment and will likely be sold to them on permanent this summer.
25 - Dawkins - Will be sold but not sure who to; Depends on how Villa loan goes..
22 - Obika - Too old now to keep with the U21s. His performance at Charlton should be telling..
21 - Bostock - We'll see what happens in the US...

______________ Youngsters with chance at the first team in 2+ years from now ______________

20 - Ceballos - Will be interesting to see what we do with him next season. Possibly a Segunda Division loan? Maybe even to Almeria after Falque's (so far) succesful loan...
20 - Luongo - Could make a couple sporadic appearance for the first team next season, but I'd expect either a Championship or maybe even a PL loan.
20 - Fyrers - Could see some first team action next year but will most likely be loaned out to a championship side in the second half of the season.
19 - Pritchard - If he can stay healthy he'll without a doubt be a great little player for us in the coming years.
19 - Kane - Could be our 3rd or 4th choice striker next season. Possibly another PL loan?
18 - Coulthirst - Killing it for the youth teams at the moment. might challenge Kane for that 3rd or 4th striker spot. He, along with quite a few youngsters, will likely go on a Championship loan next season...
18 - Bentaleb - Oozes class and improves with every game. See a bright future for him...
18 - McEvoy - Looks like Bale, plays like Lennon. Should be one to keep an eye on.
17 - Veljkovic - Only 17 and already a regular for our U21s...

Apart from the ones already there or thereabouts (Townsend, Carroll, Livermore, rose). I don't think any of our youngsters are quite ready for the step up, another year and we will hopefully have a few knocking on the door (Pritchard, McEvoy, Kane, coulibaly',fryers)

Fryers has definitely been bought as a future first team player-we wouldn't go to that much effort on the transfer otherwise. Pritchard has great potential but his injury this season has probably set him back another year. McEvoy, coulibaly, coulthirst, ceballos, etc are not ready to be thrown in yet.

Be interesting to see what happens with Kane as he is still only 19 and still has a lot of potential-again he has had an unlucky year with an injury and unproductive loan. Mason seems to have gone backwards a bit and again his loan isn't going great so far.

Still think there are 3 or 4 out of the youth players who will make the step up to our squad (few will make it elsewhere) but which ones is very hard to tell. Tom Carroll didn't stand out at all when he was first with the youth then just jumped a level over the others whereas the likes of bostock just never lived up to the expectation on them.

Main thing is we have a great youth set up (arguably the best) and we should see more players coming through every year

Umm, i don't think there's any doubt on this is there, given he has been a first team regular this season?!?!

should i not have mentioned Carroll as well. He has been in the squad a few times as well...

Or can i just name the youngsters that I thought would be in the squad next season.
Dont worry if you dont want to contribute to the thread though

Well Carroll has played what, maybe 150 minutes for us this season in his 10 appearances, whereas Caulker has played 24 games and i should imagine at least 60 mins per game average in those.

Not to mention that on the OS Caulker is listed as a first team player whereas Carroll isn't and also Caulker played a whole season of first team football in the PL last year.

Frankly apart from their age they have nothing else in common experience wise.

See, there was no need for you to be a twat about it was there.;)
