This has probably been done (to death)

But just for a bit of fun in preseason and inspired by a vote the Spurs fb group is having for the best Spurs keeper during the Premier League era who would you have in a starting XL made up of the best players to have worn the Spurs shirt since the PL began?

I'll go with

....................Thorstvedt
Carr .......Campbell...King.......Zieger
Ginola.......Modric.. Carrick Bale
................Berbatov
...........................Klinsmann

Was close between Berbatov and Sheringham, maybe I should have given Teddy the nod and perhaps Anderton should have been right wing ahead of Ginola who played left....it also seems most fans would go for Robbo in goal.

I am also not sure about my selection of Carrick in the CM but seeing as I have a lot of work to do I haven't given this as much thought as I probably should have when starting a thread lol

Put down a bench too maybe.. make it easier.

I wouldn't argue with that team..

I'd argue with Ziegler.
Go on then......

I couldn't really think of a quality Left back we have had, was initially going to go with BAE but thought Ziegler was a higher calibre player over all even if his best times were before he came to us perhaps.

Who else? Taricco? Atouba? or am I overlooking some really obvious candidate who was head and shoulders above ziegler?

It'd just be Benny for me, mate. To be fair though - I don't remember much of Ziegler. I'm sure there are others that'd place Young Pyo-Lee above Reto too. The rest I'd agree with, though I'd be tempted to swap Keane or Teddy for Berbatov as I loved those guys growing up.

Edit - and I don't remember ever seeing Thordstvedt (sp?) playing so it'd have to be Robbo for me

Ok I see the error here, I have written Ziegler when I meant to write Ziege (The German international)

As for Berbatov, well yea I certainly considered Sheringham instead of him but he was far superior a player to Keane in my opinion.

Ziege makes much more sense  I was sure Ziegler had done nothing for us as well.

I'd have to have gazza in the team! Definitely over carrick...but a midfield of modric, gascoigne, bale and ginola would be amazing going forward but a bit lightweight! I'd also go for Robinson over Erik and definitely Teddy over Berbatov

Y P Lee and BAE?

If you read the thread, he meant Zieger. Who was very good until he selfishly quit due to almost dying.

I did read it, just offering some alternatives. I was quite young when Ziege played for us, so difficult for me to judge how good he actually was - just remember a few good goals.

I think a hybrid left back of BAE and YP Lee would do me.

Gazza didn't play in the Premier League for Spurs ;)

Teddy
Klinsmann/lineker

Both before the days of the Premier League, without that stipulation you'd have to also consider the likes of Greaves, Jennings, Blanchflower etc etc etc (and that's another thread frankly)

I wouldn't necessarily pick the best players, but the best 'team'

I think this lot would be hard to beat:

-----------Thorstvedt------------

Walker---King---Kaboul---Zeige

--------------Davids-------------

--------Modric---Sandro--------

Ginola-----------------------Bale

-----------Klinsmann------------

I mentioned BAE in the post you quoted

YP Lee I had overlooked/forgotten, but would still choose Ziege (no L) over Lee

Oh I missed that.

I saw all of Ziege for Spurs and loved him when I was a kid, maybe for that reason alone I would have him as my LB (although he played more as a wing back in a 352 under Hoddle I remember).

I'm a bit of a sucker for BAE to be honest, I know I should be more damning when he plays like he's juts smoked a massive doob in the warm up but I like BAE the footballer, and when he's on his game he's class. YP Lee was the ultimate pro, always diligent, always played with his head screwed on (other than the Man Utd catastrophe) and was a good, intelligent footballer too.

Hybridise the 2 and you have Philip Lahm.
