Ultimately its great to have so many options, particularly when you consider the quality of the options.

Bissouma was outstansing prior to Luton, the options we have are frightening really.

Personally I feel the end goal will be to not have a set 3 that you prioritise for “big games” rather a group of players you rotate depending on the nuances of an opponents tactics and individual form. Having a set of two to three players per position of varying skills and strengths allows far more flexibility and ultimately a stronger team.

Essentially we should be aiming for a midfield that doesn’t depend on Maddison or Bentancur or Biss. If anything we should be hoping for a collective so well balanced and interchangeable that the question of “do we start” Maddison or Bentancur or Biss becomes the norm. For what it’s worth I think we are on our way there. With Sarr already maturing at an exceptional rate, Gio thus far taking his opportunity with great aplomb and even Kulu showing how well suited he is to the AMC role we are getting close to the aforementioned ideal.

If we can upgrade on PEH for a player that better suits our style and then integrate one or two of youth prospects then I think we could have a midfield as strong as anything in Europe and one that is equally capable of confronting a deep block as it is a high press.

Obviously there are still question marks, can Biss go back to his early season form, can we recruit well for the remaining spot, can Gio continue his excellent form and can he + Maddison stay injury free etc. Obviously time will tell but as I mentioned I think the early signs are very encouraging, it will be very interesting to see where we are come the end of the season.

For perhaps his bad form of late I tend to think Bissouma is our best player when on form in front of our Centre Backs so harsh as it is for Sarr I would tend to see, Bissouma, Bentancur and Maddison as our most balanced midfield.

If Sarr does play ahead of Bissouma then clearly Bentancur would be switched like yesterday to cover in front of the defence.

The difference between all of them though is perhaps marginal. We only drop significantly when either PEH or Skipp come on.

The interesting thing though is Bissouma has almost always looked his best when Sarr is playing, and hasn't looked the same level when next to Hojberg or Skipp for the most part. Sarr has looked good regardless who else plays.

So for now I'd agree with the initial post that the best 3 is probably sarr, bentancur, maddison. Would need to see more consistency from Bissouma before I think that he belongs in the best 3.

Skipp.
Hojbjerg.
Dier as DM.

Surprised there's any debate to be had.

Just a bit of fun, but when everybody is back and availble we'll have the best midfield depth, in terms of quality throughout , in the league imo.

So who'd you pick....

Mine would be:

Bentancur
Sarr
Maddison

Bissouma obviously can play 6 or 8, GLC 8 or 10 , and Kulusevski covers 10 as well.
Spot on. Close thread. (y)
