1 step forward, 3 steps back, in my opinion.

1 step forward = Saha replacing Pav.
1 step backwards = no replacement for Corluka
1 step backwards = no replacement for Pienaar
1 step backwards = poor replacement for Bassong

Could have been even worse if what JJ says about Gio almost leaving at the last minute is true - and I have no reason to suspect it wouldn't be.

Exactly how I see it, to a tee.

I'm satisfied. Pav, Pienaar, Corluka and Bassong weren't getting any game time even when fit so we are not weaker for having them leave.

Bassong didn't really perform when not playing regularly so he's not a suitable sub. Pienaar wasn't suitable backup for our wingers and Krancjar has more ability going forward. Pav wasn't being used and isn't a good lone striker and Corluka simply wants regular football.

Nelson and Saha are both experienced professionals so can hopefully keep themselves in the right shape and frame of mind ready to play when needed.

What I'm most satisfied is the news that we put in a huge bid for Remy. January isn't an easy time to buy and we were right to put in bids for what we need long-term which will hopefully open the door to a transfer at the end of the season.

I'm not fussed about the players we've let go, the players we've brought in are short term backup solutions. Fine.

with the exception of the late Pienaar transfer i think it was fine.

Saha will be well up for the challenge and will want to prove himself to his new team mates and fans. And should also provide a kick up the jacksie to Ade/Defoe. I think he will surprise some Spurs fans with his mobility/acceleration and general standard of his all round game...

Ryan Nelson is a whole hearted leader of men kind of defender with a sound technique (not sure how fit he is...)

We have moved on a player who was de-motivated and whom the manager had no/little faith in (Pav)

And we've also moved on Kaboul's wife (no place for women; a football club)

This basically sums up my feelings too. The guys we let go didn't get much of a look in at all in the first half of the season and now that we're looking to the latter stages of the FA Cup we'll be playing stronger teams anyway.

Kranjcar looked good last night and I can see him featuring a bit more in this half of the season. With Pienaar going and Giovani still here, I can see the latter getting a few more games here and there or at the very least warming a seat on the bench - he looked good against Cheltenham (I know, not the best opposition but the signs were there and he took his goals well). Hudd and Sandro are coming back to full fitness and Livermore will get more games, no doubt about that. Rose can play in midfield.

Defence wise we are looking a bit thin on the ground but we have enough versatility in the rest of the squad to fill in if needed. Nelson will add some experience and grit which I think we lack without Ledley on the pitch.

Saha for Pav is a no brainer. He probably won't get much gametime but i'd much rather see him on the pitch than Pav. Good riddance.

I think the activity this transfer window has set us up well for the rest of the season whilst not making any commitments for the summer. If all goes well we're in a great position to make some big signings in the summer to show our intent.

Satisfied - we didn't lose anybody we needed and we freed up some squad places. We moved on some players who were becoming demoralised with their lack of playing opportunities and got in 2 that should be good for dressing room morale. Good money for Pav and saved some wages towards a big war chest in the summer.

This is the way forward. From now on we should only be buying 1st teamers and promising youngsters not filling our squad with immovable chaff. If we need stopgaps then we get them in on loan or short term contracts.

This is the start of Spurs' Golden Age.

If it wasnt for the fact that we are playing some great silky football and sit comfortably in 3rd place I would of been horrifed by this window! However as things stand im happy with Saha I think he will prove to be a very shrewd signing indeed. As for Nelsen Im still a bit baffled by this one, but I trust Harry!

If however we slump in form and pick up injuries which lead to us slipping out of the champs league places, this will have been the worst window ever!

We have signed 2 players who have made no diffrence to our starting 11 or squad depth really IMO... poor window and reminds me of how we used to be back in the 90's or even 5 or 6 years ago now.

Very clever work by Harry and Daniel.

Very clever indeed.

Satisfied.

Plus the relationship between Chairman and Manager must be well good with this kind of financial management of players..

I'm quite pleased in that I think we have strengthened and I think out of the top 6 only Chelsea can realistically argue that they have too

Main thing was cover (and possibly competition) for Adebayor and don't think we'll be too bothered at RB unless Walker is out for a long time

Voted dissatisfied, purely because we have failed to shift some players permanently again in Pienaar, Corluka, Bassong so we will have to go through the process of selling them before buying again next window. Had we bought in just Hoilett/Krasic I would however have been pretty pleased with the window, with Lennon's injuries we need a backup winger.

But Kaboul has been our best CB all season, why weaken the middle of the defence to have him cover an area that we shouldn't have weakened. At the beginning of the year we had Walker, Corluka, Hutton, Smith and Naughton RB. We have gone from 4 to 1. Yes 4 to 2 is just about OK, but 4 to 1 is reckless.

Yes, I do agree with all that, it makes total sense. What I probably should have made clear was the reason I can be satisfied with the window in spite of it. Ie, if Harry and the staff think the morale and financial benefits of shipping Corluka out outweigh the costs of moving Kaboul to RB, then I'll give their judgement the benefit of the doubt. Even recalling Smith as 2cnd choice RB I'll give them the benefit of the doubt on.

If the plan turns out to be Livermore at RB, however, then I'll decide it was a mistake and they're fools until it's proved otherwise. The drop in capacity with Walker to Livermore looks too big to be explained for squad management reasons.

Now that the dust has settled and more news has come through we obviously did our best do get some big names in but January is always a pretty non productive time, as it was for other clubs.

Looks like we are planning for the future so I'm not sure we could have done much more than we did.

Just talked to a guy at work who is a huge Blackburn fan and he says that Nelson is a massive player and is surprised he's stayed for so long. Only thing he said was weird was obviously that he's coming back from such a bad injury and apparently isn't fit. But he said mentality wise, he's one of the best around.

The big tent makers are out of pocket again.
A flysheet and some new tent pegs to replace worn out equipment
adds up to some good house-keeping but nothing more.

Saha and Nelson's best days are behind them and both have to settle in and prove their fitness.
We will have to wait and see on this.

I agree. I think people's expectations of this window were far too high. When Gary Cahill is the marquee signing of the window you can't really blame us for not being more active!!

Maybe it's a bit of a gamble to ship out Bassong, Corluka and Pienaar, but it was very unlikely that they would play again and it wouldn't surprise me if they were kicking up a bit of a fuss.

Personally I reckon team spirit is going to be far more important than the quality of those three players during the rest of the season, so moving them on was a good move. Not perfect, but I'm satisfied.
