Controversial as it may sound, my man of the season is Eric Lamela

Spurs this season was a different Spurs due to most in part to Mopo's tactics and principle which Lamela carried out by far the best of the rest. His work rate and attitude ensured the defence, midfield and the attacking players ie Toby, Rose, Dier, Dembele, Alli and Kane to excel by upping their respective games.

There were games where we weren't quite in it but due to his industry, dragged us through to gain vital points. When he doesn't play it is noticed. Point in case where in my opinion we didn't win against Arsenal because in both games where he was taken off, you could see our pressing slacken significantly that caused us to concede late goals, therefore dropping points.

If you go back and see the other ratings for this season you will see that he has won more MOTM from voters on his forum, more than any other player, and that includes the likes of Kane and Toby.

I know most will argue that Toby or Kane should get the accolades, but I honestly don't see these players playing as well as they did without Lamela in the team.

Pretty sure there's already been a comprehensive thread about this.

Anyone of

Dembele: monster different team without him

Lamela: such a hard worker and his all round game has upped.

Kane: 25 goals golden boot our only striker so the pressure is a lot.

Toby has been my player of the season, but I'm struggling to explain how he can go from being virtually flawless all season to being downright poor for the last few games .

I've explained this from before we even signed him and I'm not changing my mind.
He needs to be part of a smooth machinery of players around him, and especially in front of him. When the team doesn't function, he is one of those players who really suffers from it. If he were a player for us last season, you'd all be scape goating him.

You say that, but there have been times ( against Dortmund for instance ) where we certainly haven't been a well functioning machine and he's still seemed very assured.

Oh, I must be mistaken, I thought we were talking about the same player, but we are not.
:pompous:
Maybe he was decent at home vs. Dortmund. But away, I didn't see anything special at all.

Can't split Kane, Dembele, Lamela and Rose. They're all massively vital to the things we do well and when any of them are not on the pitch you certainly notice their absence.

Edit: You can add Alli to that as well.

I honestly think if Lamela walked on the pitch and did a giant shit in the middle of the pitch you'd still give him MOTM. If you can't see that he's nowhere near as important as Dembele, Toby, Kane or Alli then you must be blinded by a pro Lamela bias. The last 3 games have shown that.

But we can see Lamela's importance when he's subbed off and we lose the pressing game and generally go to shit.

We've been losing control of games post about 60 minutes or so all season with and without Lamela.

Has to be Alli. Started the season as an untested 19 year old and finishes as a seasoned England player with more goals and assists than any other midfielder in the premiership.

We have been screaming out for a goal scoring CM for years and he will only get better.

Just has to curb his temperament a bit.
