hi kf - that looks a nice team - haven't got a clue about veloso but it seems as if he's good

my one big doubt would be that who is going to get on the end of bale and bentley's crosses beside Pav

jj might - but he's not very good aerially -

if AA signs this will be a problem - unless AA gets on the end of crosses better than I think he does (which is easily possible as I know little of him)

so for me I'd just about prefer Bent to AA - but of course we may play a different way with AA in the team

but then Bale's and Bentley's crossing is likely to be fairly ineffective

it would seem we'd have to play modric bentley and AA most games - but would it work - big question marks for me- 2 out of the three I'd have no problems with - allowing Bent to play

well we'll cross that bridge when we come to it - I doubt that it'll be called Stamford anyway

Some good points. I agree that there's only one target man for the crosses but that only really matters when the crosses are actually in the air.

The great thing about bale and bentley is that crossing is merely one element of their game. both are good passers and both can run with the ball. (they've both got a reasonable shot/strike on them too)

I believe that (when you look at the players he's signed and is trying to sign) that Ramos is looking to play in a 4-5-1 formation with wide me that can support the lone striker. If you look at the other teams that adopt this formation, none of them, cross aerially for the target man very often as they are far more effective when playing fast, fluid football through the midfield (case in point would be chavski)

in the modern game, the best way to control a match is to dominate the centre of midfield - chavski do this brilliantly. everything goes through that midfield trio of deco, lumpard and essien. this means that they can dictate the pace, switch play and effectively attack at will.

in order to play this type of game you need three central midfielders - no ifs, no buts. whether it's 2 dmc's and an amc or the other way round (a'la the bin-dippers with alonso, masch & gerrard) doesn't matter but you need three to pass in triangles and create space for the wide men to exploit.

the hardest part of a football pitch to defend and mark is the hole just in front of the CB's as they have to make the decision to either stick or twist. if they stick then they give too much space for the amc to play the killer ball and leave them flat-footed - if they twist and come out they they leave a gaping hole for wide-men/striker to run into.

personally, as much as I hate them, I believe chavski are close to having the perfect team & formation to play total football. this worries me because, if we don't get our act together and concentrate, we could get our asses handed to us on sunday.
