I agree - as i said earlier, i dont believe this piece of ITK as think it would be far wider known if we had agreed a fee for young (which would have to be the case if this ITK is correct).

That'll teach me to read the whole thread, just saw SS57 asked you the same question, and you already answered it, sorry matey

I think someone has been reading the ITK section here!

http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/stand...nham-in-shock-chase-to-sign-william-gallas.do?

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp is considering signing former Arsenal skipper William Gallas to solve his defensive crisis.
Redknapp is desperate to get a centre-half by the end of the month because of concerns over the fitness of Ledley King and Jonathan Woodgate.
That has led him to weighing up a shock move for Gallas, who is now a free agent after failing to agree a new deal at Arsenal this summer.
While the Frenchman's links to Spurs' bitter rivals could anger some fans Redknapp believes his experience will benefit a squad, who will play in the Champions League for the first time if they overcome Swiss side Young Boys in a two-legged qualifier this month.
Gallas turns 33 next week and has attracted interest from a number of clubs across Europe but it is believed his high wage demands of up to £90,000-a-week have prevented a deal.
It is sure to be a major obstacle for Redknapp as well because Spurs are unwilling to pay huge amounts on salaries, with the top earners at White Hart Lane getting around £65,000-a-week.
However, with the Premier League season just four days away, the Spurs boss believes Gallas is prepared to compromise and hopes an agreement can still be reached with a player, who had five years at Chelsea before moving to Arsenal in 2006.
With King struggling to play more than one match a week and no date yet set for Woodgate's return from a long-term groin problem, Redknapp is looking at a number of options.
One is Brede Hangeland, who was also a target for Arsenal until Fulham demanded £12million for the Norway international.
Redknapp has been frustrated in his bid to sign Micah Richards as Manchester City have kept changing their minds over the deal, which was initially set to go through in May.
Having lost out on a top-four spot to Spurs last season, City are wary of selling to one of their rivals, which is why they would prefer Craig Bellamy to join Celtic even though the striker wants a switch to north London.
The futures of Richards and Bellamy appear to depend on whether City buy James Milner and Mario Balotelli and then have to start making cutbacks in order to name a 25-man squad.
Spurs are also in the hunt for Ashley Young although it is understood his possible sale was not one of the main reasons for Martin O'Neill resigning as Aston Villa boss yesterday.
Young is valued at around £18m and any move could include Spurs offering David Bentley, Jermaine Jenas or Robbie Keane in part exchange.
Former Spurs boss Martin Jol, who rejected Fulham to stay at Ajax last month, is among the favourites for the Villa job along with ex-England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson.

Never really thought we would be doing much this season, we should only buy (as harry has said) if that special player becomes available and not because we can. If we sell any players we should get someone else in better, maybe an attacking CM if JJ does go and a striker with that finishing instinct that we seem to lack at times if again we sell one. can see it being a really boring window for us even if Man City do go nuts with there signings

I still feel somethnig big might be doe, we may just have to wait until the end of the windowm when (hopefully) Champions League has been secured.

Although all decent enough signings, I am suprised at Man City's failure to land anyone big and if their only remaining targets are Balotelli and Milner then i don't think they are going to push that much further ahead of us if at all.

What we benefit from is a settled squad who play as a unit.

Ah how the Evening standard has fallen. A once rubbish newspaper, occasionally acceptable at best, is now barely worthy of being used as bog roll.

Having said that, call me nuts but in the asence of a fit Woodgate, we can do worse than Gallas, who even at his age is a fast, strong, intelligent (albeit occasionally insane) centre back.

I think Young fits this criteria with Bentley going the other way. Mostly because i think our team lacks consistency when Lennon is unable to play, we only have one super fast right sided player, and bringing Young in would give us the flexibility to cover this position in Lennon's absence as well give us a fast left sided attacking player, which apart from Bale we don't have.

Has any of the Itks on here heard any snippets about Diego(Juve)?

Noooo, please don't.....no....!!!!!

I would love Diego and he is very much in the mould of Joe Cole, although i guess more central than Cole. Can't see why the bindippers would want him with Gerrard, Cole & Aquilani in their side, but i would love him at Spurs.

However i can't see this ever hapenning.

Having Lennon RM, Young LM and Bale LB... Modric CM we would be scaring the shit out of teams! still think we need to add that world class striker to really make the diffrence

I really dont want Young to be honest. Far to much money being talked about. Would much rather see that amount being invested else where. We have eough wide players at the minute. And Young as hardly been mr consistent over the last few seasons.

Agree. Should be used or put towards a very good striker,

We desperately need an experienced centre back, I would love it if we got Gallas on a free.

He's a far superior defender to Kaboul, Bassong, Corluka and Richards.

If we go through the season with our current set of defenders then will we struggle in whichever competition Ledley has to sacrifice (Harry said he'll save him for europe).

Right out of the blocks, there are a few issues with this.

He was 28 million last year. While he had a poor year, it couldn't devalue him enough that we could afford him.

They sold Giovinco and have no replacement for him that I know of. Although I would trust IOMLS' opinion on that statement

They haven't sold Giovinco, he's on loan at Parma. And they don't need to replace him as he was never first choice.

Where do we play Diego? We push him out on the wing and he would be worthless. He's made to run the show in a 4-4-2 and needs to be central. To do that he needs a ball-winner, which would be Palacios. So we would have to basically tell Huddlestone he's no longer in our plans.

We'd presumably be playing a kind of 4-5-1 formation, he plays a similar role to Cole when Cole plays centrally, which from what Harry said is where he saw Cole fit in.

But we'd be much better off spending this kind of money on a striker IMO.

No it won't. They are using a ticketless system this season.

Touche
