The Beeb did nothing of the sort. If FIFA wasn't rife with corruption this wouldn't be an issue. The same goes for the IOC. Both bodies are rank amateurs compared with UEFA of course.

Frankly, we didn't win for any number of reasons but having a muck-racking press (I won't call them a free press because like the press in most western democracies they are too fucking lazy to exercise those freedoms) isn't one of them.

When bids aren't voted on on their technical/financial merits then it's a pointless exercise and hopefully we just drop any ambitions we have for hosting the world cup for many more decades. Let Liechtenstein have it in 2030.

Qatar is the real pisstake decision today.

Who actually has the official voice and rights to the Premiership tv rights, is it Sky or is it the FA? The Premiership is the most watched league in world football, cut it off from the outside world.
Yes and rapidly become a league on a par with the Eridivisie.

Round 1: England 2 votes, Netherlands/Belgium 4 votes, Spain/Portugal 7 votes and Russia 9 votes.
Round 2: Netherlands/Belgium 2 votes, Spain/Portugal 7 votes and Russia 12 votes (Russia obtain absolute majority)

One person couldn't be bothered to vote in round 2 then, and Belgium/Netherlands got less votes in round 2 than round 1.

We missed out to Russia, a country who's fans can't accept black players playing in their country. And in 2022 it's hosted in Qatar, a country ranked 113th in the World who've never qualified for a World Cup where matches will have to be played in temperatures of 40-50 degrees. They don't even serve alcohol, however they're oil rich and have a booming economy. Nice to see FIFA making some sensible decisions and not being swayed into corruption.

It's politics and bribery. Racists in 2018, gay-haters and non-drinkers in 2022. And it's supposed to be for the fans? Hahaha, each and every member of FIFAs board are probably thousands, if not millions of pounds richer.

I didn't see the Panorama episode and I couldn't make sense of why the programme was aired, but after seeing todays result, it seems as though we had little chance in the first place so they knew it wouldn't have made a difference. If anything, it could have actually helped us in that they would try and avoid any blatantly corrupt decision, but I guess that's not the case. I didn't realise that BIDDING for a World Cup actually meant who would offer the most money for it.

I wonder what the going rate was for a FIFA members bid?

I think the Premiership's vast appeal world wide is partly the reason that FIFA hate us to be honest, they hate the success of the English Premier League.

That wasn’t a vote, it was an act of revenge.

They’ve taken on board our refusal to play their crooked game, or rather our hacks exposed their corruption. Fair enough, that should be to our credit, our badge of honour.

We gave the game to the world and we should give ourselves a pat on the back for insisting on at least trying to preserve its integrity.

FIFA not only stole our World Cup hopes, they humiliated us in the process by judging that ours was the worst of the 4 bids, gaining only two votes-one of which was our own I assume.

That’s the price we’ve paid for attempting to expose their corrupt little empire.

I'm gutted that ENgland or even any of Holland/Spain didn't get the bids. Really wanted to go to a world cup but definitely won't be able to afford going to Russia or Qatar. I generally just despise fifa.

Russia I can understand, I'm sure they had a strong bid and I'm not surprised that the FIFA old boys club decided to punish us for trying to expose their corruption.

But Qatar? That absolutely reeks of a pay off, what does a desert country with no footballing heritage whatsoever and a population of about 1.7million have to offer? Money

The Qatar World Cup will be the worst in history, no alcohol at all, Who's gonna bother traveling all the way over their if they can't even have a drink and enjoy the game, the 40-50 degrees is a joke, How can they expect players to play intense football in that climate, it's a joke.

The racism factor is a big problem and the other nations should vote with their feet and pull out of the 2018 World Cup if the racism isn't stamped out and quick.

Quite possibly. Either way, in its current guise, there is no point in wasting any more time or money on bids to FIFA. Or UEFA - not as long as Platini is still breathing.

It says alot about Fifa that we not only didn't get the World Cup but only got 2 votes even though our bid was given the top rating in quite a few categories. It seems fairly clear that they've not voted based on the English media's revelations about what a corrupt bunch of cronies they are.

And in the press tomorrow the Sun and the Daily Mail will crucify the BBC for their role in it all (a tad hypocritical as the Sun would put it's own grandma on the fire if it meant getting a story) rather than focusing on the fact that Fifa has been shown to be corrupt, has admitted to having corrupt members, but yet has done very little about it.

Fifa is rotten to its core and you can't blame the BBC or the Sunday Times for revealing that. I just hope that the media carry on trying to expose the problems within the game's governing body rather than bickering over when was the right time to write the story.

Agreed, keep the money for our own sport. That money wasted could have been put toward the 2012 Olympics.

I agree totally which begs the question, Do we really want to be part of FIFA anymore, as massive as it is, should England just pull out of all FIFA competitions?

You're dead right. There already seems to be a lot of very noisy anti-BBC voices in this country and they will jump all over this. I for one would rather not win the world cup bid by turning a blind eye to FIFA corruption and sinking to their palm-greasing level.

I'm so pissed off, the corruption is so brazen!

Why not? Just support domestic club football.

Grass roots and all that.

Round 2: Japan 2 votes, South Korea 5 votes, US 5 votes and Qatar 10 votes.

Round 3 South Korea 5 votes, US 6 votes and Qatar 11 votes.

Round 4 US 8 votes and Qatar 14 votes (Qatar obtain absolute majority)

BBC's timing was calculated to cause maximum damage to England's bid. They could have released the show months ago giving the England bid team time to recover instead of three days before the voting.

I'm disgusted at BBC, and this isn't the first time they've disgusted me.

The problem is that Rupert Murdoch hates the BBC so tomorrow every news agency that he owns will report it as the BBC destroying England's World Cup hopes.

It'll be interesting to see how the Russian World Cup works out. Will it be as hard for everyone to get in as it was for the Champions League final?
