Away from the Rafa news which important trying to ignore...

Are people genuinely asking why Alan Brazil of talksport might promise something sensationalist and then not back it up? I'll give you a clue...the key word is talksport.

Actually, I'd say the key word is 'fat ****'. I jest of course...

...that's two words.

cant see the VDV thing happening tbh.... would be disappointed as well as he, parker and sandro were the driving forces for us last season.

I really don't want us to sell our, IMO, best player. He works hard, retains the ball well, scores goals, creates chances, is one if the best passers of the ball at the club, has so much experience and quite frankly is the only bloke I'd let smash my backdoors in.

Don't go, Rafa.

Both VDV and Modric (M - not so much the goals) are unique in terms of being outstanding a creating chances/passing the ball .... taking them out of the team will make us 1 dimensional again with reliance falling on Bale and Lennon. However, I'm sure the club won't let them go without replacing them with equally talented players.

I don't want to lose Rafa :(

Selling him and Modric in the same window could be akin to Berba and Keane in 2008.

I don't think we are looking to sell just that we would not turn down stupid money for him, same could be said for any player

I am certain VDV will still be here when the window shuts

Don't remind me of only having Bent and Pavlyuchenko as our striking options. :(

*remembers we only have Defoe now...

I'll understand if VDV goes.

I can't be the only one who wondered if he had a 'can't be dropped' clause in his contract. Redknapp, for all that he had favourites, would pick him religiously throughout his time here, regardless of form of other players or how well playing with a dropped off number 10 suited us in a particular match. Invariably he'd substitute him, which often felt like he'd fulfilled his quota. He'd take as many free-kicks or dead balls as he liked, from anywhere on the pitch, regardless of who else was on there, even though our set-pieces were useless.

Problems in the Dutch camp immediately after he's dropped, moans and complaints, gets the captaincy for their last game.

He just fancies himself as the centre of things and I can foresee AVB enforcing far more of a squad ethos. More than any other player, I can see VDV having problems with this; it appears he likes to be the focal point.

We qualified for the Champions League without him playing 4-4-2 and arguably AT TIMES not playing a standard 4-4-2 and accomodating him hampered our options.
But, he's pushing 30, unlikely to take to not being first name on the team sheet, our chairman is a businessman and our manager is looking for control. All factors that might lead him, unfortunately, to leave.
For all this he's a great player, genuine eye for goal, beautiful left foot, just shy of world class. Maybe though in a fluid, mobile system, he's a bit of a luxury.

you do seriously suggest we should play 4-4-2 under AVB ?

He has though, multiple times this past season while covering the most ground of any player in our first XI

Truth in this?

Not doubting you, just an interesting fact when we have the likes of Parker, Modric and Walker in our team.

VDV is for me the only truly world class player in our squad. I love having him at the lane and in his prime too. He's also an awesome player to be able to cheer for. He's fun, throws himself around the pitch and gets pissed when things aren't going well. I love it.

Keep him no mater what.

Hope to god it aint true. He is my favourite player at the moment and there's no guarantee that the replacement (Oscar?) would settle into the prem. It's bad enough that we're likely to be losing modders, let alone this. :(

Why? How many points did we get from those? Not sure anyone's ever really looked in to that.

I think it was 3. Maybe 4.

Still, AVB's got him covered. We had no points when he took control.

I really hope AVB has room for VDV. If he doesn't, then FML.

Err, Read Van Der Kraan's comments about Holland and you would know it wasn't him causing problems and he also confirmed everyone dutch player has spoke out since WC but this was the first time VDV has ever spoken out

Then this cant be dropped bollocks, I mean he wasn't even picked for Europa so there goes that theory, VDV was one of our best performers last season and out ran any player on our team whilst he was on the pitch, we finally have a truly great player and we question him:rolleyes:

*goes away and looks up Burkinshaw's quote about luxury players

id like to know whats vdv says in public.. i dont think i have read this summer that he wants to stay at spurs. all we hears is whispers but would not suprise me if he wanted to leave. his history shows he does not hang around at clubs but you never know. if he comes out and does a van persie then fine.. his position in team is replacable and plenty of top top number 10's out there that we could attract.

like i said earlier he is top class, gets his quote of goals and assists every season but is alot easier to replace than a modric or bale and he does have fitness issues. he def isnt a 90 minute player but that can be a good thing do.

I think it was something like 2 - I'm sure I remember one of the Sky presenters going on about it. Not the ones in the studio, that one they always have reporting from his car window, on just about every day it seems. Sometimes does reports from a golf course as well.
