thats clearly a downgrade

Possibly, but not a huge one....It could be argued either way I suppose, Moutinho looks a really good player and it would depend on how good the Brazillian kid turned out to be....

Really hope we dont have a massive overhaul like we did during ramos first season at the lane.
Why the hell would we sell him, we aint gonna make a massive profit and he is a top player that is happy at spurs.

I do love VDV, but he does limit the way one can can have the team shape up. I thInk all the talk of him operating on the right of a front three is misguided. You need the players in the wide roles to be up and down and playing with pace, stamina, discipline, and it just isn't VDV's game.

I'd be genuinely devastated if we sell Rafa, the only football player I truly like. Thought he'd stay here at least until the twilight of his career and go down as one of the few Spurs legends. Infact, devastated doesn't do it justice.

I'm hoping that this ITK that doesn't come, Rafa has become a big favourite since joining the club, and still has plenty to offer for several seasons more. High class players as good as him don't arrive at Spurs too often.
If he pushes for the exit door though, well that's a different matter

I love VDV, he is Spurs. I don't believe he'll leave.

He is also the only one in the squad who can take anything like a set piece!

SHIT PLEASE DONT BAN ME. I PUT THIS IN WRONG THREAD

Problem is AVB will play 4-3-3 and in that formation the only position VDV might be able to play is one of the 3 central midfield positions. Now I know he plays there for Holland but International football is totally different to premier league football

Assuming Modric stays or if he doesnt we sign a quality replacement. Thats one position out of the 3. The second player has to be a defensive player like Samdro. Hving VDV in that trio is too offensive and would rely way too much on Sandro

VDV could play in that position if we had two DMS but then that sort of becomes a 4-2-3-1. I know its just formations but you want a Modric/Moutinho player to link it all up. Dont think a trio of Parker Sandro and VDV is what AVB wants

We all love VDV but its sad to say I would rather we keep rat face as he is ideal player for the 4-3-3

You want one DM, one creative and one box to box goalscorer. Under Mourinho Chelsea had a quality mix of Makalele, Lampard and Essien. Although there wasnt a creative player, Lampards 20 goals a season made up for it

Look at Barca as the blueprint. Busquets (DM) Xavi (creative) Iniesta (box to boxish but gives you valuable goals)

We got Sandro as DM, Modric as creative but need a box to box goal scorer (Sigurdsson maybe?)

Oscar. Superstar in the making.

If we get this guy for big money then he'll need to be playing in order to continue his progreesion, and then I don't see Rafa sticking around. Sad to see him leave though

Oscar is a #8 type CM.......we'd be very lucky to get his services this summer, even with our current interest/bid for him.

Plus VDV has already said he doesn`t like playing there on a regular basis...

Not quite sure I agree with that. As much as I love him, I'd probably try and move him on next summer. IIRC he's on a 4-year contract, so that would be the last chance we'd have to get anything back from him. Plus, as the years pass he'll be playing less and less in our team, and I'm not sure he'll like that.

I think he has another good year left with us. Hopefully by then Sigurdsson will have slotted in, and he wont feel like such a loss.

i love vdv also, but his set pieces have been fucking awful since he joined us!

it seems any player who joins us loses the ability to score free kicks

But his set pieces don't clear the first man! Particularly corners!

That said, he is still world class and would be devastated to see him go
