They should be able to and that would include Pritchard, Obika, Bentley, Stewart, Smith and potentially Kane. This could be our team for the U21's and if Kaboul makes it back, he would allowed to be the last overage player. Also Archer and Miles can both come in as well

Don't disagree with the logic or players at all.

But there are several other experienced players not in your line up who are available including Ryan Mason, Dean Parrett and Cameron Lancaster for example - the first two of which played a number of u21 games before January to get the u21's into the healthy league position they are in rioday.

I guess the age old question is whether you want to win the competion (= play expereience) or develop players (= play younger players to give them the experience).

In the last few games (particularly since Luongo, Parrett, Byrne went to Swindon) Spurs u21 goalscoring has reduced as have results declined. Sherwood needs to decide on the appropriate mix of experience (to win matches) v giving experience to younger players.

IMO we need one or two more experienced players than in the last few matches to go on and win the competition - and again IMO its worthwhile to win it to say to other younger players 'hey we are the best in the UK with younger players - why not join the best'.

We need a cionstant flow of the best young players going forward to get one or two a year into the first team every year as a 'must' to meet oiur plans and asprations - we certainly cannot afforsd to buy lots of squad players and so must rely on these youngsters coming into the first team squad each year to replace squad players.

Lancaster...if fit?

How good is Lancaster ive only really started paying proper interest in the youth team for the last 2 years, first time Id heard of Lancaster was when Harry brought him and havent seen him since.

Is he better than Kane? Even Obika's been doing decently. Those would be his most direct competitors in that position at the moment. Where does he stand?

We have a really good youth set up and thats still not including players we have on loan. Plus the younger players (u18s) who have been dominating the elite league better than the originals (u21s)in Group 1. Even Parret would be missing.

Only change id make would switch Pritchard and Ceballos, also would like to see Veljkovic play, if for example Livermore doesnt

Didnt see this before I replied earlier.

I feel it is a bit unfair on the younger players losing their places but I also have noticed the goals drying up so would prob make sense to throw in Carroll. Also I never realised how creative Luongo must be. Read some Swindon forums and they talk him up and say much of the play goes through him, and he is a good tackler. Do you reckon he was the main reason we were doing so well? Didnt think him to be a playmaker

Was said to be a number 10 player when he joined us,
dunno if it's at Spurs he's first been pulled back into a holding role.
Seems like a modern complete midfielder though.

IMO Luongo is a potential first team player, definitely a potential star for us - nominally a defensive midfield player/box to box player, good at tackiling but mainly anticipating the opposition play, and always keeps Spurs play ticking over, and not bad when he goes forward either usually gettung a handful of goals from the edge of the penalty box (and at Swindon a header) - argubaly like Dembele not a classic playmaker, but a mkidfield player who can create chances. Last season certainly one of the stars of the u19 NextGen team and certainly a mainstay of the u21 team earlier in the season. Would love to see him stake a claim to the first team next season in pre-season, although he's likely to spend next season on loan.

Cameron Lancaster - been out for a year through ijnury. All the physical attributes to be a decent striker who can lead the line, but (at best) will take time to gert back to his pre-injury form and improve from there. Lets see what player comes back from injury.

Luongo even got pushed to centre back early season didn't he(?) due to the U21's having an abundance of centre and attacking mids. Very Barca-esque.

Three teams of players can be made from those that have starred for the U21's this season. I'd hate to have the job of picking who plays the final rounds from that talented bunch. Not even sure who'll be back from loan yet...

I know it's hard as some of the older players have played a massive part in the boys getting to the final, but I believe we should stick with our policy of youngsters move up, older players loaned out or first team. Even if it means losing it's about development. it will be massive for them next season as well.

Could be that we've seen the last of Dean Parrett - on trial at Crystal Palace. and played for their u21's last night http://hltco.org/2013/04/30/crystal-palace-u21s-0-1-bolton-wanderers-report-analysis/

Shame as he has done well in the u21's this season, but he's 21 now and would need a squad place to play, plus Spurs have a number of good youngsters playing in similar positions coming through.

BTW, I've hear that Nathan Byrne's move to Swindon is still under consideration - nothing has been finalised yet.

Thanks for the great info on this thread.

I wish we would televise the U21's etc....

You would think ITV4 would do a live weekly spot...........yes i know ITV but .....or the New BT mob.

So how good was Lancaster before his injury. Agree would live Luongo to somehow get integrated next year, dont think he is short of confidence.

Also each of those 3 teams Id back to beat any u21s team. Incredible

I give up. Just click the URLs

Really surprised and a little disappointed at this development. From what I have seen he could have been a good squad replacement for Parker next season. I don't know what the so called attitude problems are (if true) but I quite like a player with a bit of attitude and I liked what I saw of Parrett. I'm a bit surprised he wasn't brought through instead of Livermore. He got a couple of starts in the UEFA and looked bloody competent then and that was three years ago (and away at Shaktar no less). Busy, tenacious, decent technique, box to box. Could have been the perfect understudy to Parker.

The only thing you can say is we do seem to have a lot of midfield talent, I just hope this isn't a decision that we end up regretting.

Its got to be hard to dislodge international players from a match day squad being a youth player.

who are you going to pick, the untried junior like Parrett or Sandro the Hudd, or Livermore with 30 odd games last season, or international captain Parker, or Dembele or even Tom Carroll who most people believe worthy of a decent amount of game time.

Its a shame as reading the reports for the U-21s he's played well. its a shame we didnt hang on to him a bit longer with a well placed loan for next season. But who am i to argue the point looking at it through other peoples comments here on SC.

It may well be the start of the cull of players who will need a squad place next season

As SI has suggested, above, it is probably related to his age, which would necessitate inclusion in the squad next season, combined with an appraisal of the midfielders who would be competing with him, and with those who are likely to be emerging from the youth set-up soon. I guess his style of play as against the desired attributes would also apply.

What I would hope is that Dan Levy is including a buy-back/sell-on combined clause with youth players like Parrett - because he obviously has something about him and that is the type of player who can return to haunt a club.
