It's like you're all giving yourselves fucking chinese water torture

He's gone.

Gone.

Accept it.

You're all going through the classic five stages of a break up, only you NEVER SHAGGED THIS ONE

1. Denial
2. Anger
3. Bargaining
4. Depression
5. Acceptance

Now please man up and remember the players we have bought, the possibility of Lamela and the potential of Franco pulling something out of his beautifully waxed and mahogany tanned arse.

Willian is like Parker; he'll go where the money is. He's a decent player but overpriced and he obviously wasn't 1st choice as Anzhi only recently announced their fire sale. We'll have back up options even if it means keeping Bale (and what a disaster that would be ). You can't buy every sweet in the sweetshop and some of them are bad for your teeth. The important thing is that we don't waste time fruitlessly chasing Willian. We've had the window slam shut on our fingers before; it would be tragic after such good business so far if it happened again.

Wasn't today supposed to be a "big day"? I'm not convinced yet...

If a big day means Willian chooses Chelsea, Lamela gets picked up fromthe airport by the goons and Bale finally lands in Madrid then it's gonna be massive.

A massive catastrophe.

The fallout from this is pretty far reaching. If you were Roma and saw us miss out on Willian, wouldn't you naturally start to think about raising Lamela's price to test our resolve? I suppose we could just say no and pull out of the Bale deal altogether, but who knows if that's realistic, given the advanced nature of the deal according to JJ.

By the way, we really should just do a double deal with Ajax for Eriksen and Alderweireld. They fill two needs, are really good players, and Ajax are an very honorable club that we've done good business with before. Hoping for deals with Willian and Chiriches just seems fraught with uncertainty and sideshows, whereas the Ajax duo similarly fit our needs, are cheaper collectively, and are completely obtainable without huge roadblocks.

It reminds me of that too and it turns out City didn't have a leg to stand on - I'm hoping its the same with Anzhi.

You're a legal man and maybe you'll be able to shed some light on this but surely there should be some way of securing an option on a player when you agree a fee. These are multi million pound deals, when it gets to medical stage the idea that any club can come in and gazump is quite ridiculous. Surely once a fee is agreed and the player is flown over (at the expense of Spurs) there should be a legal obligation in place should we decide to exercise our option (a bit like how Birmingham could cancel a deal with us for Ghaly days after joining them).

I am no legal expert but surely a legal agreement requires documents signed by the selling club, buying club and crucially countersigned by the player?

I fucking detest Chelsea . Evertime I try and think, who cares its only one player, John Terry's fucking face keeps popping up in my head.

I just don't get the Willian hysteria. He's definitely a very good player but there's no guarantees he's going to set the premiership alight. At over 30 Million it represents a big risk. He's not a worldly.

To name a few: Pjanic, Erkisen, Dzagoev, Kondogbia, Griezmann are all potentially just as competent...

I think it's simply the fact that it's us vs Chelsea that has made this feel so symbolic, which it isn't.

Willian is overrated and cannot even get into the brazil first team. For 30m you expect him to be.

PA journalist reckons "Willian will meet with Chelsea this afternoon to see what they can offer him. He's expected to make a decision on which club to join later today". So we're unlikely to know anymore till this evening.

I imagine it's different for each deal. I'm sure deals have been done where we're effectively given an exclusivity period to discuss personal terms/do a medical etc having agreed a fee, but equally it could simply be the case that until everything is agreed then the selling club are still permitted to accept bids from elsewhere.

It's not really in the selling club's interest to rule out any higher bids so I wouldn't be surprised if that wasn't included here.

If Willian has actually signed papers though...that could be an entirely different kettle of badgers.

An option agreement is still something that has to be signed and agreed between the parties. If you take a property as an example, we can agree that I can take an option over your house (usually for a fee) and we agree everything and sign everything as if you were actually selling me your house - even down to the transfer documentation itself (which would be attached at the back etc.)

So it is in essence the same as agreeing the transaction itself.

Except there is an extra step in that I then have to exercise that option in order to set things into motion.

What I'm getting at is there still needs to be agreement between the parties and signed documents - and it appears we've only got/had one of those (if that).

Kondogbia's a defensive midfielder. It feels symbolic because the Bale for Soldado, Lamela, Willian looks good. Bale for Soldado, Lamela and a panic buy (in the playmaking role which is our key requirement) is a disaster.

BBC: 1251:LATEST TRANSFER GOSSIP
Gareth Bale's proposed world-record move to Real Madrid has temporarily been put on hold, according to Press Association Sport. Reports had suggested that the Tottenham forward would finalise a £93m transfer to the Spanish capital on Friday. But Press Association Sport is reporting that Spurs are unwilling to sanction Bale's move until they have signed at least one new player to fill the Welshman's position.

Pjanic is not the answer to loosing out on Willian, not the same type of player and in my opinion not much different then Holtby. We need someone who can actually take on players as well as thread a pass. We need a number 10.

I agree. I am not getting too excited after one match, but I honestly cannot remember him making one mistake last night. He ran with the ball when he should have ran, went past players and when it was the right time for him to pass he always played the correct ball, something that Lennon finds quite difficult.

He shone and gained confidence at the perfect time in his career last night, and lets hope he continues his progression and fulfills his potential!!!

Well Done Lad!

I think that he played well last night, but come on do you really think any PL defence would have let him run half the length of the pitch and get a shot off? I am not knocking the kid at all but i think we need to see a performance like the one he put in last night against a side worth a shit. I am sure that despite what he said in the post press conference AVB thinks the same.

If i were a scout and watched last nights game i would certainly have deferred my opinion on any of the Spurs players until i saw them play against something more challenging than a Sunday pub team. Townsend has got potential but Willian is a player that comes along once in a generation and will be a big blow to AVB's plans should we not get him. At the end of the day you really couldn't at this point in his career consider Townsend the answer should the Willian deal fall through.

That's a fairly easy headline to create/assume given a lack of Bale announcement.

Probably should be heading for the Bale thread too ...

Was excited by Willian but he's got 2 Brazil caps. If Chelsea want to spend 30m on someone who doesn't improve their first 11 then let them. Doesn't change the fact we need a number 10 even if we sign Lamela, but if Baldini's as good as the media have been saying he is this week, we must have a plan B
