There are plenty of alternatives, many better than Willian, the question will be price and availability. Two that immediately spring to mind are Hamsik, a much better number 10, and my personal favourite Marco Reus. Admittedly both their clubs are in CL but let's not lose sight of the fact that there haven't been many £30m transfers in history so it is still a big sum. Arguably Ozil will be made available when Madrid sign Bale and there aren't many better than him.

Hamsik just signed a new contract. We are not getting Reus.

Ljajic will probably go to Milan. Ericksen said he wants to go to CL club, but I think he would come here. Milan were also linked with Ericksen.

There's Pjanic (23yrs old) as well, not to mention other targets that I'm sure Baldini has up his sleeve

We'll be alright, I'm sure of it

Willian isnt a goalscorer, he's a creator. Exactly what is needed when you have a prolific man Like Soldado up front,

He's scored 3 goals in 2 games. We had more shots on target last year than any other team in the premiership, so chance creation isn't too catastrophic yet

Not going to pretend it's not disappointing but maybe a blessing in disguise, at least we won't have to deal with his **** agent.

Nice to see that you want first team football in a world cup year Willian m8.

Fuck, we've had a good window, we thought we wouldn't recover after failing to get Villa & Benteke and then we signed Roberto Soldado. We'll be fine.

Reus, Hamsik and Ozil won't come here.

For cheering up purposes: Soldado, Chadli, Paulinho, Capoue.

Just say those names over and over again. They are all upgrades on the players we have let go.

If Lamela come in for Bale, then I think I could be happy with that. I really do. But it looks like we want more than that plus a left back and hopefully plus Chiriririririririches.

Whilst that would obviously be a decent window, it doesn't really fit in with the promise of big money being spent which I suppose is why people would feel disappointed. At the moment we've made a net spent of about £35m, and with Bale going that obviously changes significantly.

Now obviously there's no point in spending for spending's sake, but it will be odd if after all the talk of Lewis opening his wallet we end up actually making a profit this window.

As for where we still need players, obviously Lamela is now a must (although it's gone very quiet which is worrying), and we still need a centre back and a left back.

But for me we're also a creative midfielder/forward short which is where Willian would have been perfect. Basically we need an upgrade on Sigurdsson, and if we don't get that I think there'll be quite a big gap in the squad.

We may have strengthened the squad in many positions with our signings so far, but to replace Bale we need a lot. I'm not sure if Lamela on his own does that.

I know he is a creator type but would play in the front 3 and there are players who both create and score.
Look at all the stick Lennon gets despite creating an awful lot of chances and still scoring a few.
Not questioning his ability, simply saying that personally id prefer someone who scores more in this position as soldado can't score all the goals and we'd still have to try and replace bales competition

I can't help but think that the those who are most to blame for this colossal fubar are in fact the very people that spend so much time here.

We all demand ITK.....to know what's happening before anybody else. I only do it for the absurdity, but its no different that the people that do it serious.

And so a market like that produces suppliers. And those suppliers tipped SSN and then Chelsea off to this (as much as we want to blame Kia or Mourinho).

And he we are.

Levy always wants lock-down and this proves why.

Time to reevaluate. I feel that I have harmed the club pretty terribly here. Hell I am the one that posted 50% of the rumors that made it to twitter. And if I am hurting the club on the same level as Chelsea that makes me a **** and I really don't want to be a ****

I'm not sure I can even call myself a supporter right now. :(

We all blame you. Please leave. :banhappy:

I cant believe people equate Siggy as good as Eriksen..... I seen enough of Siggy to ship him out. Sorry to say so but Siggy is mid table quality.

Can't believe how highly some people rate Eriksen at this point. Not even dominant or consistent in a bang average league.

Let's be honest here. This has been embarrassing. We look like mugs and amateurish.

Not great PR for the club.

Poor

Why has it been embarassing for the club? no one has come out and said it was done, in fact AVB said it was not done... Its only the fans (who celebrated too early) who are embarrassed including myself, who celebrated too early and mocked my gooner mate. :facepalm:when will I learn...

Sorry completely disagree. He's exactly what we need, but we move on.
Agree - he is a game changer and that's what we need desperately and unfortunately I don't see this in any of the remaining rumoured targets we have

Telling someone to shut up on an internet forum. Well done you. I wasn't even attacking the board, I've been a staunch supporter of Enic/Levy. Just highlighting that there could have been naivety from our side this time, and we've missed out on a huge talent.

Oh hardly naive. These are businessmen who deal with multi-million pound deals and assets. Naive? Sorry, but you're speaking about people who have a thousand times the experience that you do.

Football Manager does not count as experience. It's a crude tool for trying to give an insight into a system which cannot be synthesised by a set of spreadsheets and pixels.

To be honest I'd rather Lamela (21yrs old) Ljajic (21yrs old) and Eriksen (21yrs old), rather than Lamela and Willian

Probably cheaper as well. That would be fantastic along with a LB (Coentrao), CB (Chiriches) and replacement for Defoe / Ade if necessary.

sky sports were spot on though! a lot were saying yesterday they are full of shit and just making things up to get money into sky bet!

anyway there's got to be tons more talented playmakers around the world that we just don't know much about. That's always been our way, get them on the way up
